  • I went hiking up Avalanche Peak with a group of friends. The weather was perfect and the view from up there just amazing.
I shot this video using a Canon 70D with a 18-135mm lens on a Beholder EC1 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer.
The aerial footage were shot with a Phantom 3 with a PolarPro ND32 filter.
Some shots are a bit shaky as I haven't owned the stabilizer for very long and I still need to practice. And also the ground was very uneven and it was hard to look at both what I was filming and where I was walking :)

Amazing fly mate! Just a question: I'm going to Arthus pass in January and would love to make this hike, but as I'm going by bus and just going to stay one single night and have to get the bus at 3:15pm back to Christchurch, I would like to know if 7 hours is a comfortable time to do the round trip from the village? I also would like to know if the place is well signed as I'm going solo and don't wanna get lost. Cheers from Australia

if you haven't already done the trip by now, yeah you should be able to do the loop in 7 hours & yeah it's well marked, in deep white out conditions, a compass & map could be useful on the tops but does have poles along the route, shouldn't be to difficult

Hello there! Just wondering in what time of the year did your group hike up there to get that kind of scene? Just amazing

Coming back to NZ for the third time soon. Landing in CHC and Arthur's pass will be my first stop 😊
Thanks for the footage but drone in National Park ? 🤔

    Nice footage nice effort.
You guys did pretty well no poles no special equipment.
Wondering how long did it take your group to reach the summit ?
    Drone footage very nice.
Was considering taking mine didn't think DOC were in favour being a National park ?

unless your going in winter wouldn't say you need special equipment, doc time is like 6 - 8 hr return via loop track, if your in reasonable shape should be able to do the loop within 4 hours it's pretty easy going & well marked but yes drones over DOC land is a no no unless you have managed to get a permit from them

Awesome vids. How strict are the NZ authorities on drone use?

Hi Michelle. It's not so strict but you do have to apply for a concession if you plan to fly on Department of Conservation land (D.O.C). With that said, I should not have flown my drone at Arthurs Pass since drones are not allowed there, but I did not know that at the time I made the video. It is my own fault for not checking properly beforehand.
      You can go on
www.airshare.co.nz/ for more informations on where you can fly
and on www.doc.govt.nz/get-involved/apply-for-permits/recreational-drone-use/ if you want to fly over D.O.C land
      Hope this helps :-)

    Illegal use of drone?

    • @reidytodrone3876
      @reidytodrone3876 3 года назад +1

      Yeah I was wondering that.
Pretty sure DOC infringement fines for flying over National parks.
Was myself looking at Avalanche Peak later this year wasn't going to take my Drone due to DOC.
My understanding a special application can be submitted $65 with close to zero success rate and months waiting for reply.
      DOC do not like Drones.
If DOC land is involved I just don't take it means a much lighter hiking backpack anyway **

nice shots .... but flying drone in NP - thumbs down. Non-respectful people make only stricter regulations for all of us.

Guys, you need a permit from DOC to fly a drone here, and you never feed native birds. Cheers,
