My biggest issue with this book was the pacing. I feel like we went from "I'm glad to have someone who relates to my troubles" to "I want to own you as if you were my property" way too fast
I definitely like the concept of the book more than the execution. I think that, like, a romance slowly deteriorating into a horror would be really cool!! But the book (and honestly I had the same issue with Playground) feels very…like. reddit horror if that makes sense? Just throwing a bunch of gross/scary/shocking things at the wall to see what sticks. Sorry, I hope this made sense! I wasn’t sure how to phrase this lol, I was just disappointed by this book.
you absolutely nailed what i disliked about it. it was too rushed for the descent to feel believable and for the tension to build. this should have been a longer story, i just don't think it works in this format. plus, it absolutely feels like a reddit horror story that people would bring up in every single "what's the most disturbing reddit post?" thread, especially the ending. it was just goofy.
@@sIimepuppy right? I think like…the rough idea of someone deluding themselves into thinking a parasite is a pregnancy is interesting in concept and could be really scary but the way it was done in this book was just…kinda goofy and weirdly overdone?
I found you through the Playground video. I get curious about some disturbing or horrific books/media sometimes but then videos about it say “oh my goodness this book was so disgusting I will not even tell you about it” and I’m left like “but that’s why I watched this video. I’m not gonna read it. But out of morbid curiosity I want to at least hear what’s in it.” THANK YOU for not only giving a great easy to understand summary, but your tone and humor is perfect. I CACKLED at the “you know the apples we peeled to make that pie? Well that wasn’t the only fruit in the kitchen” 😂 Edit: I saw another comment on The Slob mention that the way you tell the story makes it so much easier to listen to. I don’t really want to read it but again my morbid curiosity about it is there. I’m so sorry you have to read these but I love you so much for doing so. Also…. The slob is not only wildly mindlessly box tickingly disgusting, it’s so damn insulting too. To people with mental illness, to gay people, to sexual assault victims, to women, to intelligence, and to all authors because it’s so bad that it drags all literature down a bit by existing. And it’s greatest sin? It’s boring too.
Yup. The only thing worse than bad art is boring art I have no clue how these "extreme horror" authors put so many shocking things in their book yet they manage to make it so dull. Now that I think about it, that has got to be some sort of talent, I just don't know what it's useful for 😅
I was 16 when I found out. I was listening to a very cute k-pop song and I told an ex boyfriend that the best way I could describe the sound was "fruity". In my head I meant sweet, fresh, and cute, but he quickly informed me that the word didn't mean what I thought it meant. I'm not necessarily mad about it though - I don't mind my k-pop music being a little fruity :p
I think the concept of treating a tapeworm as a baby sounds rather gross and disturbing But this really doesn't work it's just not structured correctly and the writing is weak. plus the narrative of having this be chat logs and a police report is a cool idea but it's poorly done since why the fuck would this woman become obsessed with some online chick she hardly knows? Maybe if we understood she was mentally unwell or the relationship lasted longer and was more in depth It could work but sadly it's super half baked. Also is it just me or does story feel like a creepypasta? It's got that vibe specially since it's all based around chat logs.
I’m glad I discovered tiktok subcultures through unhinged cocktail videos. By being an obvious visual demonstration of how confidently full of it those people are, it set the standard for how little trust to have in any of those groups
Yooooo finally a book I’ve actually read. But i didn’t know that she died from gouging her eyes out. I honestly thought she grabbed the peeler to start peeling her tapeworm like if it were a carrot or something
that's what i thought too when i first read the book bc i imagined a modern peeler but the antique peeler combined with that last email made it clear she drilled those suckers out
About halfway through your summary I started cracking up as I realized that this is literally just a modernized version of those “Evil Lesbian” pulp stories from the 40s and 50s. Like, it’s not even any edgier than those lmao
The manic sapphic trope is the dumbest but also the funniest trope of writing women. Like who seriously thought if a woman found another woman attractive she must be crazy like the Joker. 😂
Girl. You edit like ...amazing. Like some kind of internet historian meme lord kida king. Most of ytbers i know with this style often scream into the mic all energetic but its annoying to me. Your cadence and tone is da best. Please keep this up. Nobody does extreme horror reviews like this. Its truly epic. You could do gone to see the riverman or cows next😌✨
I read this book last year and I honestly felt the immediate progression of their relationship to be very reminiscent of early queer forum relationships. A lot of the romances I experienced were both very immature and lacking an understanding of boundaries. It’s somewhat nostalgic in a weird way. Obviously it’s not a perfect book but I found it fairly enjoyable (or rather enjoyably upsetting) lmao
I committed the sin of judging by the cover and picked up a copy before it blew it up on tiktok. It was out of print shortly after, so I fully believe most recommendations are based off the sick cover and most people recommending it didn't actually read it at all lol
i think the thing i hate about this book like just from your summary of it and not actually reading it myself - bc honestly i had my reservations about it from what i heard on tiktok - was that a lot of people kind of sold it on the fact that there were lesbians in it, which i feel like is a huge problem when it comes to advertising or recommending queer books on tiktok. these books are boiled down to how they have queer characters in them basically instead of talking about like. literally anything else about them, as if the inclusion of queer characters should be enough to sell it when that's just not good enough. i want good books with queer characters, not whatever i can pick up just because it was sold to me as being queer. i feel like this book is a great example of that bc it just seems so shallow and paced terribly with both of the characters coming off as crazy but one of them is a bit more crazy than the other one so that's basically the only conflict. though, idk whether to attribute zoe seeming crazy bc she is or bc of the bad portrayal of bdsm lol. there was a lot of potential here, bc i'm all for stories about messy women and queer characters being in different types of narratives other than the norm, but i feel like we were really robbed since there was no slow decline or build up into much of anything. this whole book feels like someone held it up to me and was like wow look at these two women aren't they fucked up oooo scary when like. i don't think these characters even needed to be women or wlw. basically this is not a lesbian book; this is a book with lesbians in it. anyway i love your videos so far! i can't wait to see what other books you cover! you're really funny and cool. ❤
if u haven't read fluids by may leitz i def recommend it. i finally read it yesterday after being told to read it a bunch of times and it was like the perfect amount of fcked up. the characters are lesbians and it makes sense that they would be like their identity and sexuality are there for a reason and it is written in such a beautiful way i was gut punched a few times which i didn't expect. the timeline is A LOT shorter than larocca's book but the story doesn't feel off cuz may leitz does an amazing job showing u these women are not all there in the head right from the start so it feels realistic. you're always like "of course they would do that of course duh". it was so so good ♡
yeah. even just from summary I expected it to be a case of a cishet man preying on a vulnerable queer woman, since the author themselves is queer (gay and trans, iirc nb using he/they pronouns) and would've had so much stuff to work with for that. bc to me someone taking advantage of a vulnerable queer person is one of the greatest horrors. I think that's what was such a flop. if it were up to me I would have the ending be that. Zoe faked her identity to hurt Agnes - like how adults will fake their identity to hurt kids online. (but make it clear I'm not pulling a transphobic. I'm pulling a "why are cishet men so horrible to queer women and trans men?" bc I get it) bc that would be to me more scary. and j also would've let Agnes live that too I'm too merciful I'd go "oh sweet baby, you will live" and just let the idea of how she now has to cope with everything that's happened be the disturbing sad stuff.
You strike a great balance between being explicit with what happens while watering it down so I can sleep at night. Good humor too. Looking forward to more reviews!
I think most horror authors write their female characters as mothers or would be mothers because it adds a certain level of responsibility and attachment in their personal lives. “Here’s my spinster protag, she cares about her… chihuahua and uh….. job at Google.”
I haven't even gotten to the horror yet, but I'm already getting 'I googled BDSM once' vibes from this guy - a bunch of kinks, lifestyles and dynamics all thrown together to seem 'intense', the dominant introducing said mess of kinks to the submissive in the form of a contract without any prior negotiation, the dominant deciding what the sumbissive "gets out of" submitting to them, without hearing it from the submissive themselves. The dramatic lead up of 'my thoughts scare me', only to be followed by basic Sadist fantasies. I get that people who aren't into kink, or in this case, S&M, might feel like the things Zoe mentioned are really intense, but anyone who is into S&M would probably find her description of the bondage and the whipping pretty standard. It's not even my thing, but it seemed tame to me, with what I've learned about BDSM.
yeah soooo. i’m involved in the community and this book is so beyond inaccurate, it seems like the author didn’t do much research or ask people with any personal experience for their perspective. when i heard zoe mention her “scary thoughts” i was like oh, that’s it? i mean her talking about killing agnes, now that was concerning. but some rope and some whipping, now i’ve grown up reading ao3, that’s nothing compared to some of the fucked up things i’ve seen. this book could’ve been a really good concept for psychological horror although that also probably wouldn’t be too great for the reputation of the kink community either. the average person tends to think of shit like this when in reality it’s a bunch of nerds who like d&d or cosplay or anime or sci-fi movies or magic: the gathering, it’s not whips and chains 24/7 for most people, and while ofc there’s bad apples in any community, i’ll be so honest when i say i’ve seen the healthiest relationships among kinksters. very open communication, respect, and a strong emphasis on the importance of boundaries and consent. unfortunately media rarely depicts it this way which is unfortunate…
Larocca IS a good writer but this book just...isnt it. His short story collections really let his range and talent shine. Im not sure why this novella blew up so much...im assuming cuz of tiktok as that platform tends to put the WORST books on pedastals.
Oh boy! I read this book! The meat scene traumatized me and it almost made me throw up, but I am pretty squeamish when it comes to consuming anything that shouldnt be consumed. I do remember reading it at first because (surprise surprise) everyone on tiktok was like "oh my god its the most disturbing book ever 😔" and I'm a curious bitch, but halfway through the book I was just laughing at what was happening, I cant tell you how flabbergasted I was at the whole Phineas tapeworm child... What a nightmare but not for the reasons you migth think. Also it is unfortunately true about splatterpunk books and female characters who all want to be mother (Cows, Dead Inside, both books that also left me flabbergasted and wanting to punch a wall solely bc of how they were written rather than the contents of the book themselves...) one book that I think could be interesting to make a video on is Woom, I feel like its one of the only splatterpunk books that actually didnt hate on women? But honestly ir might be a good idea to take a break because I can imagine that reading so much extreme horror (with questionable writing) can get really tiring
no worries i watch good horror movies to compensate the loss of my braincells also i was super excited for dead inside so i am devastated by that news 🥲 i can never win
These book reviews are among my favourite things I've experienced lately, pleeease keep them coming. The editing is the icing on an already life-altering cake. You have earned your eyes and everyone else's.
You are so genuinely funny I’m losing it lmao definitely dream blunt rotation worthy. I also think you could be one of those million subscriber sell outs if you continue making videos and I really hope you keep pumping out videos cause you’re truly a pleasure to listen to 💚
@@mainmorpho also this is super random but your voice reminds me sooo much of a singer I like called Soko who has a song called “I’ll kill her” lol I kept thinking you sounded so familiar until I remembered that song
I'm familiar with the U-haul memes in the queer community because of how fast some lesbian relationships escalate but this is ridiculous. I don't think Eric LaRocca is a bad writer, there are some paragraphs in there that I really liked, but the book as a whole is a mess, it feels so sloppy the way he pieces together the story. Also, I understand the limitations behind the format he chose to narrate the story in but c'mon, he at least could have added a scene or two where the characters meet irl so we the readers wouldn't get whiplash when Agnes got obssesed and possesive with a complete stranger all of a sudden, he could have Agnes write yet another email like reminiscing how it all went down but no, all we had were boring chats. Anyway, I wasn't aware this book was inspired by Sluts and now I'm angry that I didn't read that one first because I'm 20% into Marbled Swarm from the same author and thus far I think Dennis Cooper's writing style is much more engaging and fun (convoluted and weird as well but whatever I'd take what I can get). Loved your video, the editing is on point and your sense of humor is great! (Loved the fruity joke at the beginning)
Honestly I wish it went for more of a supernatural element to spice it up because imagine if Agnes did like a demonic ritual to get pregnant and the demon baby feeds on her and even looks like a tapeworm that would be pretty creepy especially that if it human features. 300% more creepy if it had a mix of Agnes's & Zoe's features like an actual normal baby would.
This normally isn't a book I would touch with a ten-foot pole, but your delivery and commentary is glorious and has me cackling. I don't know if it's intentional, but your completely monotone delivery just amplifies the hilarity of these awful books ten times over. Hope to see more videos soon! I've watched all but "The Slob", waiting until I'm a bit less full to watch that one.
I read the book and found myself mostly puzzled as to why things went from 0 to 100 within a couple of pages??? Like sure they are lesbians so the U-haul vibes would fit but it’s just off. Maybe it’s because you can tell that this was written by a man. Also initially I thought the stories that Zoe told Agnes would have some sort of thematic mirror in the novel but it was just random disturbing shit.
I read this book back in February of this year. Zoe's behavior was disgusting but it felt like an unnecessary 180. She went from a kind-hearted and selfless person for helping Agnes to immediately wanting to hurt Agnes within days of their relationship. There were no signs into Zoe's behavior at all besides the small moment where Zoe says "My thoughts scare me". Would've rather had the author write in a whole new character to be this mean, degrading hurtful person to Agnes if he was planning to make Agnes suffer anyways. But overall, I loved your summary and takes on this book. Can't wait to see what you review next!
I wonder if maybe he intentionally did that? since Zoe isn't able to see Agnes through the screen and could be pretending to be someone else, or having had bad intent from the start. I've heard of people doing that. acting kind and selfless and then suddenly, flipping to a cold and cruel person. usually after what they get what they want from someone.
@@SleepiiPrincess btw not defending the book here LMAO I think the twist sucks especially how she said "my thoughts scare me" bc that's sentiment people with OCD share and a lot of her commands were similar to someone's intrusive thoughts. so I was like "oh no did they... did he do this on purpose oh no" and saying what *I* would've thought would be a cool idea.
I also found it so weird Zoe then did another 180 and was like "You are too weird, I can't believe you did exactly what I told you to after I told you to do everything I told you to."
Brruhhh these are so good. I love your style of editing and how you interject every once in a while to give your thoughts. Please read “No longer human” by Osamu Dazai. It’s not … horror just a really thought provoking and horrible chain of events with no winners.
I just discovered you yesterday by my little sister and I listened to your “the playground” and your voice is just the sweetest for story times, it makes horror seem like a lil bug when you talk 😂 Anyways keep up the good work 🫶🫶🤗
I’ve never commented on a video before but I just wanna say ur videos r so fucking good dude!! I found ur channel after the first video and you’ve just been making more book reviews on all the books I wanted to know about but not necessarily read seriously great content! u make all these intense books really digestible can’t wait to see more so awesome!! 👍 🎉
I remember this book being so hyped up and after reading it i made a goodreads account for the soul intention to give an honest review that it was dogwater. I feel like it had a lot of potential but the fact that it’s so short made the pacing way off and ruined it. Thank you for finally saying what a lot of us have been thinking about these books. 😭
Honest to god funniest/most frustrating part about this book is that they literally never meet irl so like... there's no reason for Agnes to actually do most of these things. Like Zoe can't actually confirm Agnes is doing this, and Agnes could easily fake all of it. She could literally put her underwear back on once she's taken a pic of it on the floor, and she could be chilling playing candy crush or something during the hold your breath section. Zoe never meets her, never calls her, never facetimes her, nothing, so she can't prove that Agnes ISN'T doing all that. I get the stakes of this is that if Agnes doesn't do it, Zoe won't send her money, but considering Zoe has access to ALL HER BANK ACCOUNTS AND SAVINGS, that's pretty fuckin weak sauce. It'd be one thing if Zoe just took all of Agnes' money out of the account because she disobeyed/lied, but literally all it is is Zoe sends her money to do weird shit. I think the book would have worked much better if instead of it being toxic lesbians, it was just that Zoe's a troll figuring out like how far she can push a clearly disturbed Agnes to do gross stuff. The leap from "leave your panties on the floor" to "literally kill a salamander with a rock" is giving edgy reddit teenager, but would also make her backing away with the tapeworm stuff make sense. Would it make the book good? Probably not, but the twist of Zoe not being real and actually a bored edgelord troll who chickened out after finding out how unhinged Agnes actually is would be very interesting. (Also, that whole section where she describes what she wants to do to Agnes, pretty sure I've read a decent handful of fics like that on ao3, and they were pretty chill. If your dark thoughts are tamer than the tags on ao3 then I don't think you know what dark thoughts are.)
Yes, this is very wrong about all things kink and BDSM. Keep in mind, these topics are lesser known so someone can just not do any research, write a story about it, and the reg reader wont know any better. Also let's be honest, just like how someone can be queer phobic and purposely show someone who is queer in an untrue and hateful light, you can have people that are kink phobic and do the same there. I don't know why someone would hate someone for knowing what they want out of a sex life(if the BDSM is even sex related), but some people really are just that horrible. And ya, that feels like the main problem here. A whole lot of interesting and good ideas, but it's all bogged down by the writer talking out of their butt. I would like to say an abusive relationship can form fully through just online messages. That isn't actually that far out there at all, but it's not in the way the book suggests.
i watched a bit of an interview the author did on youtube and they were saying how the reviews calling their book bad helped with its popularity and it was such a mean spirited thing to say i feel like bc dude you portrayed not only gay women as clingy and psychotic (which would have been fine if there was any other quality to the characters but they were just walking stereotypes) but also the kinksters as horrible people who are wishing for each other's downfall. don't be proud of that wtf. it sucks that nowadays in the mainstream media we either have people who show staright up abuse as kink or we have people who shame others for having kinks. hellish times also with the toxic online relationships i think my disbelief in that is just a personal thing and the fact that it was so rushed didn't help either. i mean i'd never take orders from someone i've never even met irl bc what if they're like lord farquaad how am i gonna cope with that yknow
@@mainmorpho it's actually so very odd and mean in this specific case. In the book as you are pointing out the main character has been abandoned by her mom and family for being gay. This is what isolates them and then puts the advents of the plot into motion. So the book is aware of the great harm that queer phobia can cause. It points it out to the reader, but then it goes and becomes queer phobic and kink phobic anyways. So the writer KNOWS it's wrong, KNOWS the harm that can happen, but just doesn't care. That what really gets me here.
I remember a former school friend of mine was a big fan of this book. She recommended it to me and gave me a brief summary but I've never actually read it. And after learning more now I don't think I want to
You should read more books by him. He’s really creative in telling goth/dark/extreme stories. One of my favorites underground horror authors. “We can never leave this place” is a really surreal trip by him.
I just recently stumbled across your video and I have to say your humor is KILLING me. The monotone delivery while out of pocket Stan twitter memes are being shown? That’s art. Definitely subscribed ❤
Deliberately infecting yourself with a tapeworm to serve as a surrogate child? That premise could be humorous, but here its just dumb and weird and makes me question why they don't even consider adoption like most gay couples. On a side note: did you know tapeworms can grow 30-60 feet long?
ive only rlly seen reviews bc ghis book sounds like a dumpster fire, but i was a bit suprised that i related to Agnes so much even just wirh reviews. like, while half of the shit sne got up to confused the fuck outta me, and i was very confused as to how zoe didnt end up being a cishet man pretending to be a cis lesbian woman online to prey on Agnes (bc yeah its the internet people can ajd will lie) i did relate to Agnes being so eager to please Zoe and doing things sje wasn't comfortable with, because she wanted Zoe to like her and be proud of her. Especially her having a manic episode at the end. shocking that such a mid book managed to have a more relatable character than the books that are super hyped up.
This is one that I HATED with a passion when I read it.. but over time it grew on me. It has its issues but overall I actually really like this one. The frenzy and desperation of it is super relatable, even when taken to its extreme, and it’s gross enough to discomfort but not enough for me to write it off.
I think the reason why the whole thing feels so rushed and half assed is because the author quite literally describes writing it all in five days. What is up with authors taking pride in writing so fast? It just makes for a shittier product everytime. Edit: Wait, people have accused him of stealing this idea from another author? Because his other novela "You have lost a lot of blood" one of the major themes is how the serial killer is also a plagiarist and he and his boyfriend have talks about "what is actually plagiarism, what is a tribute, what is a reference", which was SO completely out of place and made no fucking sense not even with the ending revealing the killer was a plagiarist all along because... who the fuck cares? This guy has been killing men up, down, left, right, the fuck do I care that his shitty poetry and his also shitty novela was stolen from his victims, the absolute fuck matters. But adding the context of the author being accused of plagiarism himself now makes it SO funny, like, my dude was really so badly affected by the comments that he quite literally wrote a whole ass book just to wax philosophical 101 nonsense about authorial intent as some kind of weak ass response.
I know it’s not necessarily horror, but it’s still EXTREMELY dark; A Little Life is a very excellent and I’d love to hear you cover it! I could see you enjoying it
It's just pain p0rn, suffering for the sake of it. The amount of pain and horrible things the main character goes through is so much that it becomes comical at some point. And the author always writes about tragical gay men, her main characters are always gay men that have childhood trauma or have been molested
I was wondering if Finn was going to be in this and what role he would play, I thought maybe a little brother or literally anything normal but instead he’s the fucking tapeworm baby 😭😭😭😭
I thought this book was written by a woman this whole time, thank god I watched your video! I never like how queer women are portrayed through the eyes of men.
How is your research coming along with Steven King's Rage? I wonder how gun culture in the 1980s compares to today. Maybe that might be a good comparison to bring up as to why the book is probably best hidden away like King wanted.@@mainmorpho
If you want to read a good BDSM splatterpunk novel, I'd read Master of Pain by Wrath James White. I'm part of the community and I was kind of thrilled by both how accurate the book was in terms of describing kink history and kink events, plus how the author never demonizes people who are in the community, which was also nice to see after being so used to people implying that anyone who is in the community is inherently messed up
Hey, I like this one. It's at least preferable to the others in that the gore is in service of a point - "lonely outcasts have dysfunctional parasocial relationship which results in mutilation and death" is a way better story than "random guy kills people for no reason".
Yo! How do you keep your sanity intact when it comes to reading these books, my friend?? I bet this story was crazier than “The Slob” & “Playground” Also, I really like how you photoshopped Snoop Dogg’s face on Jake during the video. It makes me laugh😂
Havent read this book but I was only curious bout the ending so ty for the spoilerish review. I only wanted to comment that The Sluts is a rlly good book, the format is creative and the story, while gross, is engaging and felt realistic in a way because of how online stories can be twisted by many users, like an internet creepypasta that ppl start beliving is real (it has happened)
I’m sorry “I want to treat you like a mother and her child” and then the next chapter she proceeded to describe how much you wanna break her mind Treating her like a rotten fruit girl what kind of mother did you have?
For the good stuff, Skipp and Spector or David J Schow, John Shirley all wrote work which was visceral but didn't skimp on character. They evolve, and someone like Joe R Lansdale now manages this stuff and elegant but emotive crime thrillers. Stuff like this feels precious and immature.

I literally didn't comprehend it for a few seconds after it.
I actually liked that plot point. Not bad.
My biggest issue with this book was the pacing. I feel like we went from "I'm glad to have someone who relates to my troubles" to "I want to own you as if you were my property" way too fast
nah that parts just how some lesbians can be
Yeah very innacurate normally it's "I want to own you as if you were my property" then goes to "I'm glad to have someone who relates to my troubles"
That went from one to one million quickly.

Just like real life! Which is why I trust no one

Yup. The only thing worse than bad art is boring art
I have no clue how these "extreme horror" authors put so many shocking things in their book yet they manage to make it so dull. Now that I think about it, that has got to be some sort of talent, I just don't know what it's useful for 😅
How did we get from a apple peeler to this? You are a saint for suffering through all these “stories”
I'm ashamed to admit that this video is how i found out fruity meant gay
Fruitpicker, fully. It is also a slur. Or at least it used to be until very recently.

Oh.

But this really doesn't work it's just not structured correctly and the writing is weak. plus the narrative of having this be chat logs and a police report is a cool idea but it's poorly done since why the fuck would this woman become obsessed with some online chick she hardly knows? Maybe if we understood she was mentally unwell or the relationship lasted longer and was more in depth It could work but sadly it's super half baked.
Also is it just me or does story feel like a creepypasta?
It's got that vibe specially since it's all based around chat logs.
I used to see this book on EVERY TikTok horror book recommendation video with high ratings. Now I have severe trust issues.
never trust booktok.
@@Foodbasedgamerlearned it the hard way:/
I’m glad I discovered tiktok subcultures through unhinged cocktail videos. By being an obvious visual demonstration of how confidently full of it those people are, it set the standard for how little trust to have in any of those groups
I'm not a big conspiracy believer, but the kind of "literature" tik tokers promote makes me wonder if it isn't all contrived.
Do they have good taste in books there?
Yooooo finally a book I’ve actually read. But i didn’t know that she died from gouging her eyes out. I honestly thought she grabbed the peeler to start peeling her tapeworm like if it were a carrot or something
that's what i thought too when i first read the book bc i imagined a modern peeler but the antique peeler combined with that last email made it clear she drilled those suckers out
@@mainmorphogod now I get it I was trying to imagine how it happened with a modern peeler
WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH HSHJSHS
Agnes and Zoe really forgot therapy and surrogacy exists 😭
She has Phineas, what more could she need?
Blocking someone after telling them your wrong favorite color is the best thing I've heard all day 😂👏
I read this book last year and I honestly felt the immediate progression of their relationship to be very reminiscent of early queer forum relationships. A lot of the romances I experienced were both very immature and lacking an understanding of boundaries. It’s somewhat nostalgic in a weird way. Obviously it’s not a perfect book but I found it fairly enjoyable (or rather enjoyably upsetting) lmao
me too! it's like a guilty pleasure or some kind of worst case scenario!
I hate that this story sucks because that cover is amazing
Oh hey i remember this one, its the awful lesbians. I also remember the end of the book beign very weirdly written.
yup that's the one and they're still awful
You strike a great balance between being explicit with what happens while watering it down so I can sleep at night. Good humor too. Looking forward to more reviews!
I think most horror authors write their female characters as mothers or would be mothers because it adds a certain level of responsibility and attachment in their personal lives. “Here’s my spinster protag, she cares about her… chihuahua and uh….. job at Google.”
I was fine with the whole bdsm thing till the contract said a/c in the winter. Then I knew this lady was a monster
I love naked Animal Crossing full blast in every season.
It's not even my thing, but it seemed tame to me, with what I've learned about BDSM.
its giving "i learned about bdsm through fifty shades of grey"
yeaaah... as much as I'm glad that they don't write "woman gets raped and tortured for 20833898 pages" I'm like. what even is this story.
yeah soooo. i’m involved in the community and this book is so beyond inaccurate, it seems like the author didn’t do much research or ask people with any personal experience for their perspective. when i heard zoe mention her “scary thoughts” i was like oh, that’s it? i mean her talking about killing agnes, now that was concerning. but some rope and some whipping, now i’ve grown up reading ao3, that’s nothing compared to some of the fucked up things i’ve seen.
this book could’ve been a really good concept for psychological horror although that also probably wouldn’t be too great for the reputation of the kink community either. the average person tends to think of shit like this when in reality it’s a bunch of nerds who like d&d or cosplay or anime or sci-fi movies or magic: the gathering, it’s not whips and chains 24/7 for most people, and while ofc there’s bad apples in any community, i’ll be so honest when i say i’ve seen the healthiest relationships among kinksters. very open communication, respect, and a strong emphasis on the importance of boundaries and consent. unfortunately media rarely depicts it this way which is unfortunate…
But honestly ir might be a good idea to take a break because I can imagine that reading so much extreme horror (with questionable writing) can get really tiring
no worries i watch good horror movies to compensate the loss of my braincells
also i was super excited for dead inside so i am devastated by that news 🥲 i can never win

This is a perfect example of Pizza-cutter writing. All-Edge, no point.
Maybe he was rolling when he wrote it?
(Loved the fruity joke at the beginning)
i'd love to see you talk about a may leitz book someday!!
it's coming soon hopefully 🤞
I've watched all but "The Slob", waiting until I'm a bit less full to watch that one.
thank you i'm just dead inside 😀👍
"Agnes imagines her and Zoe cuddling with their little worm"
My brain: "...would you still love me if our child was a worm"
I'm sorry.
😆
@@chocomelo454 that’s a good point. I hadn’t thought of that.
@@SleepiiPrincess btw not defending the book here LMAO I think the twist sucks especially how she said "my thoughts scare me" bc that's sentiment people with OCD share and a lot of her commands were similar to someone's intrusive thoughts. so I was like "oh no did they... did he do this on purpose oh no"
and saying what *I* would've thought would be a cool idea.

Another banger of a video from morpho. The hits just keep on coming.
If your dark thoughts are tamer than the tags on ao3 then I don't think you know what dark thoughts are.)
gotta thank you for taking one for the team reading these things
That isn't actually that far out there at all, but it's not in the way the book suggests.
i watched a bit of an interview the author did on youtube and they were saying how the reviews calling their book bad helped with its popularity and it was such a mean spirited thing to say i feel like bc dude you portrayed not only gay women as clingy and psychotic (which would have been fine if there was any other quality to the characters but they were just walking stereotypes) but also the kinksters as horrible people who are wishing for each other's downfall. don't be proud of that wtf. it sucks that nowadays in the mainstream media we either have people who show staright up abuse as kink or we have people who shame others for having kinks. hellish times
also with the toxic online relationships i think my disbelief in that is just a personal thing and the fact that it was so rushed didn't help either. i mean i'd never take orders from someone i've never even met irl bc what if they're like lord farquaad how am i gonna cope with that yknow
Sending her pictures of the tapeworm with “he has your eyes :)” is some genuinely top notch comedy horror stuff
I remember a former school friend of mine was a big fan of this book. She recommended it to me and gave me a brief summary but I've never actually read it. And after learning more now I don't think I want to

This book is so apparent of men writing women that I thought the twist would be Zoe was a guy.
i remember my best friend reading this and telling me about it but thEY NEVER TOLD ME THE MAIN CHARACTER HAS MY NAME
JAJSJSJWJDJSJDJDJDJD HOLD UP THAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF LORE ABOUT THIS WHOLE THING WHAT THE HELL

yeaaah that book is gonna ruin my life probably and it's so huge and scary but one day 🤞
It's just pain p0rn, suffering for the sake of it.

If you want to read a good BDSM splatterpunk novel, I'd read Master of Pain by Wrath James White. I'm part of the community and I was kind of thrilled by both how accurate the book was in terms of describing kink history and kink events, plus how the author never demonizes people who are in the community, which was also nice to see after being so used to people implying that anyone who is in the community is inherently messed up
i actually really liked this book in a way where its short and fast paced
