By the size of the cougar in the 2nd shot when it passes the camera I'd say it is an adult which would indicate to me that they are a mating pair. But I also suspect they could be siblings. Its a tough one. Perhaps a cougar biologist could identify them.

@Sims 3 Forever Dude a few years back in Washington State a male Cougar was tranquilized and collared for a study, the male was estimated to be 9 years old and weighed a whopping 197 pounds, well fed male cougars that get to 10 years of age have been documented at over 200 pounds, most Cougars in the US never reach true size potential or the age of 10 cause of trophy hunting, Cougars are over hunted in Idaho Montana Wyoming Colorado Arizona Utah and New Mexico, the number killed every year in these states is staggering, however with growing population in Arizona and New Mexico the new residents are started to push back against Cougar persecution and trophy hunting, New Mexico banned trapping and Arizona almost banned the hunting of all big cats in 2017, the tide is changing, it seems like when western states get less white Cougars get more support from the public

I've found that mountain lions will rarely den in a cave that has a single entrance and exit. I've seen adult lions use a place like this to cache food. I've never seen a adult lion use a den unless it was a lactating female.

Do you think they are a mating pair, or siblings recently separated from mother?
A human perspective would be that cougars spend the day quietly watching, but what I see here is mostly olfactory. They certainly smell the recent human presence. I find their tendency to limit physical movement enchanting.
