I always lay my pieces flat in their back to decoupage. Let gravity be your friend. I also super lightly mist my paper. And I like a runnier medium than mod podge, like Debi’s diy liquid patina or the fusion decoupage medium.
🥰Krystal, what a gorgeous piece! I love it. I actually LOVE the size of this, too. I wish I could find more smallish dressers because they're so fun. Doesn't that piece fit your paper perfectly?? The decoupage artwork goes so well with the dark finish! Imo, you did your paper like I do mine (technique). Small sections, nice layer of gel. You made it look easy and I couldn't see you struggle at all.😘 It's possibly (?) easier to lay the dresser back (either flat or angled against another surface) which 'might' just make the motions more ergonomically comfortable. Sometimes the piece just can't be tilted😪, but I always struggle more on a vertical surface (like recently, LOL). Although you didn't ask, Mohawk makes a wax wash remover that works really easily with no scrubbing necessary. You can 'feel' the difference immediately & know that wax is off the surface. You can get it at Amazon. Love your work AND design! 💛
@OwlingDogDesign thank you Cat!! That is the magic of editing I guess lol.. I didn't think people would want to see my hours long frustration lol.. well maybe it wasn't hours but it sure did feel like it haha! It sold very quickly but I did have a ridiculously low price on it as I am back to struggling to sell things ugh. Thank you for those tips!!! I definitely think you are right maybe it would have been easier on its back! Thank you for that wax remover product suggestion!! I will remember that for the future!! Thank you for your kind words my friend!
This is sooo lovely Krystal! Nice job removing that wax, mineral spirits is such a versatile product. A tip I got from Mel at Colored Caboose a long time ago, try wallpaper paste for thicker papers. I used it for a poster (a backer inside a cabinet) one Halloween challenge years ago and it adhered terrific plus didn't wrinkle at all. Still holding up great! Though, I must say I think this looks nice, the whimsical vibe of the paper works with a few "blemishes."
This is my favorite type of decoupage to use! I wear gloves and use the decoupage gel medium from redesign with prima which is super thick. I do iron it with steam (whenever you find that iron! lol) and the wrinkles just FALL out. With gloves on I just use my hands to really smooth on this fabric-y paper and it dries beautifully
I do like the redesign medium.. great tips and tricks!! Thanks lady! I did like the finished results so if I do this again I will try some of these suggestions!
Wow, that paper seemed like it really didn't want to stick that paper on! IDK, maybe that Elaine's stuff, or a top coat would be better. Maybe the more mod podge soaks it making it heavy wet and it falls off. I have never used rice type paper before so don't really know. Really great job on that piece. How was the wrinkles on the paper?
@diysbydar it really didn't give me too much trouble with wrinkles unless I got part of it stuck down then when I would try to smooth out another section and the paper was off a bit it would create a wrinkle where it overlapped.. if that makes sense lol. Then I would just pull it off and reposition it and start again. It's definitely more like fabric in a way. Like I don't think you could tear it at all. If I do this again I will try a different medium.
Beautiful ❤
Thank you!

@@thekraftycreech I agree with Dar about the Aleene's gel. It's not expensive. Amazon, too. 😃
