@@gaminggoddess85 No I think that the issue was not performance but the real time shadow technique. If you look at ganon's shadow you see that it's also hovering over the edge, it's a flat plane with a dynamic texture or something, it works in some specific areas because the layout is flat but my guess is that if it was on link it would look very weird due to how the terrain has many shapes throughout the game. So cool to see how Twilight Princess and even BotW implemented concepts all the way back from Ocarina of Time, shows just how much inspiration they take from past games even when their stories or worlds are pretty different sometimes
The thing is Ocarina was such an ambitious game that Nintendo kept using concepts from it in Majora's Mask, Wind Waker & Twilight Princess. There most be some unused stuff that was planned for the 64DD. i wish Nintendo had at least 1 ambitious game such as this for every console generation.
I loved the big Goron's sword. It was an absolute odissey to get that with an old controller (the items with time). That animation is indeed stylish, and I would have loved it.
This is one of your best videos yet. SOOO much stuff in this one that I've never seen before and it's crazy that people are able to even discover things like this. Especially not only being able to go swordless, but all the weird stuff that can happen because of that. My fave to see was the hookshot while riding. 😂
Have you considered doing a video about the slight engine differences between Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time? I think that would be an interesting video.
Probably you know this, but just in case: if you play the Scarecrow's Song at the beginning of the Sacred Forest Meadow, Pierre will appear on top of the maze (Navi will turn green on the very spot where he is located). Use the Hookshot to pull Link up and you'll be able to skip the entire maze just by walking across the platforms. So long, Moblins!
Not sure if already mentioned but: When you recover the Master Sword in the Ganon fight. If you stay there Ganon will eventually stand up, the flames will be up, and Link will be thrown inside with a multihit animation but not take damage
A cool visual glitch I discovered a while back: If you throw a bomb into King Dodongo's mouth as soon as it explodes in your hand, he'll eat the exploded bomb and then become a sort of neon color (N64/Virtual Console only, not 3DS).
Another cool thing: Fairies and poes will adjust their flying height to fly at the same level as Link. For poes, this is easy to see in the graveyard. Fairies are even more interesting because they adjust their flying height very quickly. I was able to see this in the Fire Temple in the Master Quest, where there are many fairies and a lot of verticality.
In OOT 3D, there’s a glitch that lets you make a farore‘s wind checkpoint anywhere. Doing this can sometimes unlock first person camera mode in restricted areas like in front of the temple of time
A strange fact i found out about recently from Light arrows' rupee gifts: If you kill a floormaster with light arrows, instead of one purple rupee, the floormaster will drop two!
Those are some cool animations that went unused. That's too bad! I never realized how the ambiance surrounds Link in Kokiri Forest as well, so much hidden stuff still being unearthed!
You can check out The Cutting Room Floor's article on OoT for more unused animations! Majora's Mask has a lot too. Like the Great Fairy was originally going to make Link do a whole workout regimen to get double defense, including situps and pushups.
Those scrapped animations are awesome, and I wish they would've been able to make it into the final game. Also, with the play any items as an ocarina glitch, if you perform the glitch with a bomb or a bombchu, and play Saria's Song, or a warp melody, you can wait out the flashing animation of the bomb or bombchu, until it dissappears from Link's hand. After this, exit the text menu, and then an explosion will suddenly occur.
@01:30 Suggestion to expand the lighting topic. At it's release no other game in any console had such detailed Lighting FX: Per vertex lighting, colored projections, coronas, lens flare oclution, flickering lights, fake water caustics with animated texture, shadow generation per light source for Link & Stalfos models, different lighting conditions for time of day (dusk, day, night dawn). Links shadow is affected by the suns angle I.E when at the horizon he's shadow elongates. The game even has an atmosfercis animation for time of day transition when you see the sky, as the shift is gradual. At one stage in development, Link had it's dynamic shadow with natural proportions instead of the stylistic one it has to cut on processing demands. This can be seen in that famous screen cap that circulated in magazines where the light from the entrance projects Links shadow in the ground. Only one game topped Ocarina in this aspect: 2001 Conker.
0:51 meanwhile we have pokemon scarlet/violet that can't even do shadows properly, a game released in 2022 with inferior quality over a game made 24 years ago by the same company.
4:50 Twilight Princess was made on a heavily modified version of OoT's engine so it make sense. The feature was practically fully coded in OoT already, they just had to make it accessible without glitching.
