    It isn't the first time a game in Japan turns out to be literally cursed, heck several manga had to end because they were cursed, sometimes way out of the author's control (broken shrine anyone?).

      That's the kind of story that picks my interest the best.

    If the game was that close to finished, there is a very high chance that a prototype rom exists somewhere. It's just really as to whether or not someone finds it

    We cannot be 100% sure that it's cancelled. After all, Bio Force Ape, a game announced in Nintendo Power and supposedly cancelled, was found in 2010.

      Bio Force Ape was 100% cancelled. Only someone kept a prototype and sold it online.

    Maybe it's still locked away on a harddrive somewhere and they'll release it in a collectyion as a bonus on Megaten's 100th birthday. :p

    I'm a bit sad it didn't happen, it would have been a cool spin-off.
    EDIT 1: The Al Gore joke gave me a chuckle

      It really looked like a game of enjoy tbh and the fact it started off as an arcade game made me so sad

    5:18 No way this game would have released translated in French. Very few games were translated back then. French magazines in that era covered all Japanese import news because PAL releases were so late, often compromised to 50Hz conversions and many games would not even come out. Most of these magazines’ early advertisements came from import game shops that would also convince magazines to review the import games the shops had ordered (and sometimes pressure them to review the games "charitably"). Games magazine Consoles+ (the "+" isn’t silent) was one of two French magazines who had a local reporter in Japan to cover this kind of news extensively (and often steal early screenshots from Japanese magazines).

    • @Larrue
      @Larrue  Год назад +1

      Sorry I meant "in France", but yeah the screenshots in consoles weren't anywhere else, at least not the ones I had access to. It also provided details not really any other magazine had.

      @@Larrue Sure, as I mentioned, they did have local staff in Japan; if the issue is from 1994, that journalist was very close to Famitsu’s staff and later became the Japanese correspondent for Edge Magazine in the UK.
      I doubt they would get entirely exclusive stuff (at least on purpose) but they did have direct access to JP developers and media assets. I see two possibilities. ① Some JP magazine also got those assets but the Japanese media in question was lost to time. ② It would sometimes happen that floppies and CDs containing media would mistakenly include or label screenshots and PR still under NDA. So it sometimes happened that foreign magazines would get "scoops" this way (as it would be harder to stop them from printing the yet unapproved info/media). Most famously this is how French Magazine Joypad leaked Dreamcast two months ahead of its official announcement (all the announcement PR was included by mistake in a CD-ROM intended for Japanese press).
