So for your blanket, since you'll need more yarn anyway, you could get another bright color or two and switch them for the pink and green now then bring them back for the last section.😃
Oh yeah, and also, when you're knitting flat you can put a smaller size needle on when you start to purl and keep it on so your always knitting on a larger one. I've also had to go down two sizes and my gauge was great!
Love your Lovenote, I knit one and adore it, that darn provisional cast on has kept me from knitting another, thanks for assuring me it will work without. Keep on knitting without looking, you will get better.
I agree about provisional cast-ons.... I have to watch 10 videos and try 3 different methods every time I do one and it is always a struggle. I didn't even try with the Love NOte... Just cast on and did the ribbing and was happy with my neckline. Great show and good luck with your yarn-dyeing project!
Hi Karen! Another fun podcast! I recently knit the Bright Axis tee by Stephanie Lotven (tellybeanknits) and I wore it for the first time today! It’s a great way to show off one of those cool skeins of self striping sock yarn for the top part paired with a solid color for the body. I wasn’t sure about wool for a summer tee but I was very comfortable in it on a rainy day in Illinois.
Hi Karen, great fun podcast and love note is perfect on you! Kay Jones on The Bakery Bears podcast does show you her dyeing and she also has bulky blankets. Hope all goes well with camp. See you next time.
Love this podcast and always look forward to it!! Love the love note... I've tried three times and always screw up the yoke! You inspire me to try again!
Lovely podcast. I’ve always got socks on the go - great for using up scraps. I’m also making the stash dive raglan which uses loads up. I hear people do cinema knitting and well done for having a go. Don’t think I’m brave enough!
Love your podcasts: love your sense of humour! I am also one who has not knit the Love Note; nor have I knit the Ranunculous - I have the patterns, but still haven't cast on for them. Winter's coming.... :)
Your bubbly enthusiasm makes me smile. Very enjoyable podcast. The "Scrappy Striber" sweater pattern by Tia Trans, would also be a good way to use small amounts of leftover yarn....for a summer sweater. Thank you for inspiring us. I think I'm going to look up the pattern for making the sweater you're wearing today. It's a nice looking sweater and it looks nice on you.
hey Karen...I'm one of the 2 people who have not knit a love note or a ranucculus (sp?). Yours is great though. You are so funny about knitting in the movies. I saw Jurassic too and it was great. for your scrappy blanket since you think you are going to run short of the green and pink, why don't you start making wider stripes of beige and gray, etc betwen the pops of color. Just keep leaving fringe every 2 rows. Having varying widths of stripes will look great especially since you are only a quarter way. good luck. i hope your little one enjoys her camping trip. 🌞🌸❤
I had some Knit Picks dye your own. I dyed it with Kool Aid and Easter egg dye and made an Andrea Mowry sweater with it. I loved the yarn!! If you don’t dye it you could give it for prizes.
I’m one of those two people you mentioned who hasn’t knit a Love Note! Started one last year and screwed up the lace section so frogged it and never went back. I’m really not a lacey yoke type but might cast one on for my 11 yr old granddaughter who is already my size. If it fits me it will fit her! But might find a more laundry friendly yarn to use.
Hi Karen-For a summer knit (tee), check out the pattern "Sommerknus" by Elsebeth Judith. It, too, has a large gauge of 18 sts/on US 8s. Has overall texture patterns that keep you engaged. Mine has knitted up real fast (done with body in 17 days). Also, you might try a provisional cast on using a crochet hook over a needle using waste yarn. It's really easy to make and pick up stitches afterwards. Thanks for sharing your knitting with us. Love the sax and dog at the end!
My solution to rowing out flat was to learn mirror (backwards) knitting. In the beginning I only used it for short rows, but now I use it where there are no structure in the pattern (I'm not mixing knit and purl backwards, but it can be done). It's a bit like learning to knit all over again, but also very fun to be able to do. I'm currently at the stage where it is just as easy to knit backwards as forwards.
As always, a fun, and wonderful podcast. I love your style of “not perfect” knitting. Hope all goes well with camp! I tried to help a friend dye some yarn once…..never again! I’ll just buy it when I love it 😉
Hey! It’s been awhile since I’ve commented so I thought I’d comment to say hi and I just love how your love note came out! I’ve done a lot of yarn dying natural, acid and others if you have any questions shoot me a message anytime! I can give you tips for tonals or speckles or whatever you choose to do. The biggest thing for the yarn you showed is to be very careful not to felt it since it’s non-super wash.
Hi Karen. I’ve heard of knitters putting one size smaller needle on one side of your interchangeable. You use that needle to do your purls and the larger of the two to knit your knit stitches. Hope this helps from Diane from Boston
Love the podcast! You are such fun to watch! Be careful with your acid dyeing. Use your N 95 mask when you are working with the powder. And do not use any pans for cooking once the acid dye is in them. Chemknits has lots of youtube videos about dyeing. Check early ones about safety issues. Overdye the natural dyed one. It will look great and you will have more yarn for your sweater.
Thanks for the tips! I love chem knits and I have been watching a lot of her videos. Thankfully we are swimming in KN-95 masks right now, so I will be sure to be careful! 😆
Love your podcast! I tried to dye yarn with walnuts from my yard. It was a disaster. Ugliest color of brown/grey ever. Threw it all away. I too have 4 of 5 skeins of undyed yarn leftover from that project. ( Also from knitpicks). I am glad I am not the only crazy person, lol.
Are you kidding? I was so proud of myself that I only bought a few skeins of bare yarn instead of buying a million just to get the 15% discount 😆. There are plenty of us crazy people!
I also knit the Sommerknus this summer. Finished in 2 weeks. The pattern variety keeps your interest. I’m working on the Salty Air tee by Samantha Guerin. It’s beautiful, but the stockinette body is so boring on fingering weight. Next is Sea Haven and then Caitlin Hunter’s Manarola. I had other plans, but they’ll be for next spring. I teach school and we go back July 13!
If you knit stockinette flat and want to even out your purl stitches you could try using different needle tips on both ends of the cable (just try how much you have to go down with the needle size for the purls to get similar size stitches of knits and purls)
I just knit up a hat...my second one ever! The first one I made was years ago. So believe it or not, I have nothing on the needles and I don't know what to do with myself! I need to decide quickly!
Watch the Mindful Making podcast - she's from Australia; she has designed a summery tee and on her latest podcast she shows views of it. Her patterns are on Ravelry.
I’m currently making my first Love Note but will be frogging and starting again on smaller needles. Yours turned out beautiful! I’m curious: when you did the long tail cast on for the yoke, did you cast on the same amount the pattern says for your size or did you have to make adjustments? Also, if I understood correctly, you picked the neckline stitches up at the end like the pattern says instead of doing it at the beginning? Thanks so much.
I cast on the same number of stitches as the pattern recommended for my size. I did pick up stitches along the neck at the end because I didn’t trust myself to do the increases right! 😆
I probably could, but I'm just hoping it will plump up when I block it. I knit a kids cardigan out of that yarn, and if I remember right, it did sort of fix itself in the wash.
So for your blanket, since you'll need more yarn anyway, you could get another bright color or two and switch them for the pink and green now then bring them back for the last section.😃

Your Spot Sweater is looking fantastic! And your Love Note is so pretty xx
I LOVE the yarn you dyed with avocado! The color is gorgeous.
Love your Lovenote, I knit one and adore it, that darn provisional cast on has kept me from knitting another, thanks for assuring me it will work without. Keep on knitting without looking, you will get better.
OMG I love your Spot Sweater! Kim
I just started a hat for your fun KAL. I’m a slow knitter so the race is on!! It will be fun.
I agree about provisional cast-ons.... I have to watch 10 videos and try 3 different methods every time I do one and it is always a struggle. I didn't even try with the Love NOte... Hi Karen, I love Kay Jones' Bits & Bobs Blanket!
I love that one too!!

Absolutely beautiful knitting projects 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you!!

We were cracking up at the dog howling along. 😆

I haven’t made the Love Note yet. But I am the last woman on earth making Ranunculus.
haha - glad I wasn't the only one.
I’ve not made a Love Note or a Ranunculus! I love both patterns but I’m just not the lacy type.
I just knit up a hat...my second one ever! The first one I made was years ago. So believe it or not, I have nothing on the needles and I don't know what to do with myself! I need to decide quickly!
Congrats on the hat! Let me know what you decide. I am looking around for things to cast on
Watch the Mindful Making podcast - she's from Australia; she has designed a summery tee and on her latest podcast she shows views of it. Her patterns are on Ravelry.
Have you Trier fixing your looser purlrow by going down a needle size? Like knit on a 4mm purl on a 3.75mm or a 3.5mm
Make a shawl out of it . I donate a lot of items to hospice cares .
I’m currently making my first Love Note but will be frogging and starting again on smaller needles. Yours turned out beautiful! Can you stitch by stitch tighten up the white row done to the fringe?
I probably could, but I'm just hoping it will plump up when I block it. I knit a kids cardigan out of that yarn, and if I remember right, it did sort of fix itself in the wash.
