His concept art and storyboards early in his career shows that he actually studied traditional art in art school. You can tell by the way he applied shadows, shading and lighting to his sketches as well as how dynamic his art was in how he drew movement and muscles. His FF7 era art shows that he started changing his art style, mixing realism with manga art in order to appeal to teenagers which were FF's target audience but it's still very obvious that he started out as a very traditional artist who drew realistic human portraits or realistic inanimate objects. He was also fantastic at drawing machinery, monsters etc due to this.
That's why I love the Final Fantasy artstyle in the first place. His realism and manga artstyle also blends perfectly with the highly realistic, Triple A budget graphics of modern FF games, without losing its manga charm. Impressive

He is one of the many artists that inspired me to draw more realistically. I unfortunately suck at drawling right now. But I hope I can improve and I'm hoping one day that I will be be able to make beautiful realistic artwork &Anime /Manga artwork. Well that's my dream anyways. Right now , I need to draw alot and keep practicing &doing better.

I'm more of a fan of his more realstic drawlings from his earlier works. I thought he masterfully balanced having more realism yet making the characters have that Anime vibe to them. I can't explain it well. His new artstyle is good too. I'm just more of a fan of his older artstyle .
Same. I feel like his PSone designs are peak, once PS3 hit he over designs many characters.
Nomura has also perfected the Disney style. He stands along side with the best Disney artists

Very interesting video, I apreciate Nomura's art since I'm 4 years old, I'm 21 today lol
I prefer his art brother Kazuya Minekura, who is reminiscent of Nomura a lot. I just like how he finishes the art better, it's a middle ground between Tite Kuo and Nomura but without appealing to the anime face with fundamentals, which is how I call this more semi-realistic design.
What I like about Nomura is this aesthetic of shoving a lot of information into the character's clothing with buckles and accessories with a lot of exaggeration and at the same time control "it's polluted, at the same time that it doesn't look polluted". And with the advent of the most beautiful polygons The Bouncer and Kingdom Hearts captured the essence of it a lot and I like their designs more in game than on paper, The Bouncer is very charismatic until today and I didn't even know it was the same art as Kingdom Hearts .

On the topic of FF, did you consider doing an analysis on yoshitaka amano or akihiko yoshida ?
Yeah I'm really interested since Yoshitaka Amano is my favorite artist of all time(and also because a lot of artists I like are analysed on this channel.)

NO NO NO NO NO! You did it all wrong. This isn’t how you make a Nomura video on RUclips. Your suppose to spend around 30 minutes blaming him for everything that has gone wrong in Square since “insert time frame you thought Square’s quality dropped.” You’re even suppose to blame him for things he didn’t do like write all the FF7 universe stories made after FF7OG. Get it right man!

I don't even know why he's such a big scapegoat, at least for Final Fantasy. He's literally just the character designer.
@@PLATINUM_Rook i imagine its easy for people to just blame nomura because his name tends to be on the front of the box even he didnt do much on a game, i think around the time kh3 came out he went on a interview and even talked about how square will even ask him to do the most miniscule task on a project just so they can include his name on the box since nomura is among if not the most well known director they have at square
@@yl3716 A bit late to discussion but to add to that, even durning the initial FFVII Remake announcement (where his name was used in the role of the *director*), he said during some interview, that he learned about that the same day, which is just baffling.
While sure, he himself says that he just likes to work on stuff with barely any breaks but I think it gives even more credence to the idea that he isn't *as much* involved in the projects he's in.

Yeah i don't like the realistic take on the character faces and designs. It clashes so hard with the eccentric outfits. They look like cosplayers 😆

Just came here to say that Nomura is a hack and I hope a miracle happens and he's no longer in charge of final fantasy, so we can get a good final fantasy again. Hate that man.
