Tim, you are so right! I spray baste my quilts together, but I also safety pin about the quilt too! Because after so much handling-the quilt layers start to separate! Fantastic video. Thank you.
Oh how I wish I had seen this before I set about trying to quilt a King Size quilt on my old Singer Treadle! Currently unable to sew due to a frozen shoulder - probably caused by lugging the weight of the KS about! Thank you for your very clear description and all the best for 2018 from a damp and chilly Sutton-on-Sea, Lincolnshire UK.
Love this! I am just learning to treadle. I have a Janome 712T in a Singer cabinet. I am doing pretty well with piecing and applique. I am wondering do you set stitch length and tension to zero? I can lower the feed dogs and adjust my foot pressure, so I am wondering about the tension and stitch length settings. Just FYI I have been machine quilting with Janome 6600s and 6700s for 20 years. Thanks.
Noticing the pressure for the foot is loose..if that is the word. The adjuster thing on top of the machine is standing higher than I would use for regular sewing. Is that key? Great work Tim
I adjust it for each quilt...this one felt right very loose.....it is a combination of how thick the quilt is and how the foot fits (some are a bit shorter and some a bit longer) I always start out slow and plan on doing a lot of adjusting until it feels right
Leah Day hangs bungee cords with big clips from the ceiling to support the weight of the quilt exiting the machine. I'll try and find a link. ... May 2018 be the most blessed so far for you and your family, from sunny Arizona, 72/48f today.
Tim Latimer, now that you mention it, I think she has high ceilings too, so she put the bungee cords on a curtain rod. I probably would stick to using a table in the back, but wanted to mention it for instances when you don't have the luxury of that extra floor space because I was so surprised that the weight of the quilt really impairs free motion so much that you really need some thing. xoxo from Arizona.
Tim, Do you like free motion quilting better on the treadle than a regular sewing machine? I ask because I bought a Singer treadle, but its not in working order just yet, so to date, I've never sewed on a treadle. But, I think I may enjoy more control with a treadle, but I'm completely unsure and wanted your thoughts. I will watch your other treadle videos too. Thanks in advance and happy new year!
I do prefer the treadle for free motion, I have a brand new very good HQ stitch 510 quilting machine ( www.sewingmachinesplus.com/hq-stitch-510.php?gclid=CjwKCAiA9rjRBRAeEiwA2SV4ZTlU5pnzfR-W7Yx-p7sHgTXzkIvvPAPoWTLYzob9chKMLEx2_b6_khoC9VAQAvD_BwE ) which works great but I find that I have more control with my old treadle machines
Sticking it together with glue is NOT basting. I actually really dislike the tendency of Americans to invent terms and words which only really demonstrates a real deficiency in vocabulary. It's so simplistic, infantile and a downright celebration of stupidity. I do like the quilt though, and I'm NOT anti-American in any way but please, give your brain a chance and use the correct terms for whatever it is you're doing.
It is called spray basting. You have to realize that grammar and words are very flexible and can change meaning overtime and be used for multiple things.

What beautiful work!!
My goodness sir, you must work 28 hours a day. You seem to get so much done on so many projects. Thank you for your inspiration.
Another great tutorial Tim. Thanks so much. You make it look so easy.
Thanks!
I always look forward to your videos. I learn something new each time. All the best in the new year.
Love your videos

Love your videos! Very comprehensive. Could you please show how to Glue Baste the 3 layers together? Thanks in advance.
I use a pair of garden gloves with the dots. Works just as well and much cheaper when on Soc, Sec.

I have seen that......I think a table behind the machine is more practical from me because my ceilings are 10 feet high :)

I curtain rod is a good idea.....might look into that.....I have so many machines that I really dont have room for a table behind them all
Tim Latimer, if there's no window behind a machine, also consider a towel rod, it may have heavy duty hardware? xoxo from Arizona.
I noticed you threaded left to right. My 15-91 threads from right to left.
What about yellow for the binding? I like the pink, but if you can't find it... from here, that yellow looks pretty common. xoxo from Arizona.
That might be the answer....will see what I can find when I get brave enough to go out in the cold for a trip to the fabric store......

Very exciting! Next, I'm going to find a darning foot and try to get my little beauty into working condition. Thanks so much!!
happy stitching!
I have a 15-91 direct drive. And am thinking of a treadle. And just quilt and not reg. garment sewing.

Would "glue basting" be an acceptable term for you?
