I have a question, I noticed that you paint the mug after normal drying and burn it once after cutting, is this possible ?? Is it a special color? I would love to know, it will really help me. Thank you!☺️ you can paint it once it’s dry or after the first firing - with underglazing, normal paint will burn off. I get my work fired twice but you can also put glazing on after painting and get it fired once. Hope this makes sense. Happy to answer any other questions you may have🌸

    That was so cool. I have some questions as a complete beginner - is there any specific clay and paint to use that is safe for consumption i.e. won't leech off any chemicals? Where do you buy these materials? How much water do you use knead and mold the clay? How long does it take to leather dry? How would you wash the cups after use?
    Thank you ! 🙏😃

    • @KlayCeramics
      @KlayCeramics  6 месяцев назад +4

      I suggest using stoneware clay. Use a food-safe glaze (it will indicate on the product if it is food safe), anywhere where the food/drink will be needs to be glazed so that there's a barrier between the food and the clay. You can buy these from a pottery supply store - for example, Clay King. They are an online pottery store based in USA - you can use my discount codes: Wendy5 for $5 off orders over $50 and Wendy10 for $10 off orders over $100. You do not need to add water with the clay unless the clay is slightly too dry to work with - if so then add a small amount at a time. The drying time depends on the climate that you are in - the drying rate in hot and dry areas are much quicker than in humid and wet areas. The exact estimated drying time until it's leather hard will differ throughout the year and in different areas. Once your pieces have been properly fired they can be handwashed or washed in the dishwasher - just note that the dishwasher is more harsh and so I would suggest handwashing for a longer lifespan of your piece. I hope this helps!

      If you are using air dry clay it won't be food safe so can't make useable items such as mugs and bowls etc. - For a mug to be completely food safe you have to use stoneware clay, a food safe glaze, and it needs to be fired properly in a kiln. For air dry projects though you can use normal paint because it won't need to be fired. Hope this helps!

      No it is not, as long as stoneware clay is used and it has been glazed and fired properly. Air dry clay is not suitable for a mug because it is not food safe!

    Is this ceramic or clay ?
    And does it make any difference?

      I use white stoneware clay that needs to get fired in a proper kiln. Air dry clay is not food safe and does not need to be fired

      You’re welcome to if you want to play around with clay and experiment but if it just air dries it will be very fragile and can break easily
