The Tallest, Toughest Grass I've ever Tried to Mow. Can Cub Cadets Extreme SLOPE mower handle it?

- 8 foot tall switch grass in a ditch with concrete chunks & a drop off somewhere near by. I want to see if Cub cadets Extreme slope mower can tackle it. Plus sit down VS stand on mower debate. Which is better and why.

That might be one of the instances when going 'old school' with a scythe might have been more effective?
Or go in front of the mower with a trimmer then have the mower go behind it
They're doing this so you can see the machine working and because it'll get views. Views = money.
Or send in a herd of sheep lol !
Cub Cadet just came out with a new line of residential zero-turns that absolutely blow the others out of the water and the price is incredible too.
So that still puts Cub Cadet about 20 years behind Scag mowers...
@@backwoods4131 except cub was making mowers 20 years before Scag.
@@backwoods4131 Scag sells a ZT with a steering wheel ???? I thought not. So who’s behind who???? Lol
Stan I'm a Cub Cadet fan. Old school still use rider. But glad to see they are getting air time. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ronald!
Cutting the grass for a heavy equipement distrubitor... this guy can sell ice to the eskimos...
Padtais Zaffaires yes I’ve never understood why he uses LAWN mowers to mow pasture
BRO SKI looks cleaner
I use to be a sit down guy, but I tweaked my back once mowing (without an air ride seat) and if I ever sit down again it will be with air ride... I am a stand up guy now though and I can't be happier.
Although, I would rather mow steep hills on a sit down, i'm just comfortable with them and never have any fear... If you have experience, you're always able to do something to stop yourself from flipping, and worst case if you slide , you just turn and pitch yourself to the bottom of the hill and just go for the ride.. Seatbelts on for the gnarly stuff and rollbar up ofc.
Stan, you always produce a great video. Thanks so much for what you do.
Thanks Don!!
Never mowed with a stand on. I would love to that would be so cool. So I sit down on my mower because that’s all I have to mow lawns. Great video love the back and fourth.
Started out with an old scag stander with velkey, upgrades to a cheetah sit, now on a Wright ZK stander. Love the standers. Easy and quick on and off and take hills like a champ.
Great video Stanley club cadet really impressed me they really make fantastic mowers take care and God Bless
Thank you!
You could do that low lying section with a handheld brushcutter like the Stihl FS311 or FS240. No problems with broken blades, getting stuck or flipping over. But you do get covered with mud and grass.
I don’t think I could ever decide which style of mower is better. All lawns are so incredibly different. It’s whatever works best for the individual. Although, I do like cup holders 🍻 Can’t wait to see that new Cub
After watching mowing and growing in Australia. He got a bad back from ride on and prefers stand on. Here in England most of it is walk behind 22” stuff😁😭. Great video Stan.
Thank you!
The last time I was stuck in a skid steer all day, my guys literally had to carry me out of it. My legs were numb, I felt like I didn't have legs. I am now fully disabled because of spinal damage from running heavy equipment with solid tires.
Are you serious
@@urbanitesgarage3299 compression injuries. Caused most of my spinal damage. Caused by older equipment without suspension seats. My last boss at the transfer station was replacing equipment that was 20 yrs old and older.
@@SledgeHammer43 most older guys bash the new equipment for the air ride seats in newer machines calling them for pussies but my grandpa a guy who started operating machines when he was old enough to reach the pedals over the edge of the seat appreciates and loves the new machines becouse he said they mighty not last as long as the old stuff but loves that he doesn't got to Kill himself to operate them
@@urbanitesgarage3299 as a heart attack. I was fully disabled 12/5/2013 at the age of 37. Solid tires suck. They make so many other options to give a solid tires some give. On 12/5/2013 I could even stand up straight after a 20 minute ride to my doctor's office. 2 spinal surgeries and I can now stand up for short periods of time. I have tried Spinal decompression, and inversion. It didn't work for me and the pain it caused was unbearable.
@@SledgeHammer43 That sucks, i will never own anything with solid tires then
As noted though you securely attached your’s, from prior experience which is priceless
So glad you brought up skid loaders, I have foot control all machinal one. Its personal use but anything more than 1 hour I feel so beat up / aged, I am 32. I would love to try I stand up mower. i see some advantages.
im a sitdown guy because for me it seems like you would get tired more on a stand on and tire out your legs. now i have never used a stand on mower before but that is just what i think would happen for me, and i love cub cadet's zero turn steering wheel mowers, im getting one to replace my jd d140 when i have the money.
I'm a sit down guy we mow alot of road ditches.
We have been looking at upgrading to a Altos trx. What's your thoughts on it
I want to see how the Ventrac does in that ditch
randell barber not enough power but it would go through it better. Great machine but the EPA has left them greatly underpowered on their Deisel line.
@@johnhalter445 I'm pretty sure is the 35 horse gas
The ventrac is made for this stuff. It's like taking candy from a baby
feel sorry for the person who buys that machine after you used it
Ben Carey feel?
not me.... "hey, this was on dirt monkey's youtube channel; half price, right??"
Man I love your videos! I don't think there's anyone else on the planet that can go to companies, get equipment from them to try out and absolutely throw it through the wringer instead of doing the usual nice little positive promotional videos like most do. This is proper extreme testing lol I gotta come to America and meet you 😁 I'm also hearing ya on the skidloader topic whilst I think of it too those things are awful on your back. They really need to improve them so that people don't end up with stuffed backs
Hey thanks a lot for the great comments! I really appreciate them!
This is totally insane. I like it!
Thanks George!
I started with a walk behind and progressed to a sit down mower. I felt like a old man after using the sit down all day. I am going to be getting back into mowing lawns and i am looking at stand on mowers. The only thing i would buy a sit down mower for now is fall cleanup and large open field mowing
I love my 22 year-old 30 in Scag walk-behind belt drive the most extreme lawn mower there is this thing is cutting Tall Grass just like you're doing right now and that ditch and it will not stop . .
Mowing in TN, I use both. A Turf Tracer for embankments and ditches, and a Lazer Z for my wide open spaces. I call my Turf Tracer my $7000 weedeater
Stan, my back is bad, I have 11 total discs with issues. A good seat with suspension is key! Kubota, grasshopper, hustler, spartan , John Deere all have good suspension seat. I like grasshopper the most. You may want to look at a new track loader, our new case tv375 has air ride seat and a heated seat at that! So did the cat we looked at.
Great video, as always! I have to say my Altoz 766 would walk through all of that and the wet part as well.
Heath Martin I would hope any track machine could go through some swamp
Thanks Heath!
I like sit down because that's all I have now for taking care of my properties but I think I would love a stand on cub like that one!
You might! Thanks for watching Dave !
Guys tend to be more productive when using stand on mowers. That seats hard to get out of sometimes lol.
I have had stand on before but when I cut from 3 to 6 hours on a property I think sit on is better but not to many stand mowers are 72" machines. All I run is 72's and one 48" riding mowers btw this cub looks amazing I need to demo one
I am a sit down because I broke my foot about a year ago but would like to try a stand on I do little push mowing and it hurts my foot sometimes
Catch me in that field with a scythe going to town 😂
Just bought a Cub Cadet XT1 46" for home use.......BEST purchase EVER! Near Zero turn capabilities with it, took cutting yard from 2+ hours to 45 minutes!!!
I would love the stand up units, but they are so much more expensive. I love both!
I would love my crew with sit downs and myself with a stand on. I love Cub Cadet. I am Cub Cadet for life I wish I can have two of them. Stand on and a sitdown.
the Kut Kwick Slope Mower would like to have a word....
a truly dedicated and industrial machine
Keep the tall grass videos coming
I run a JD1145 out front(Sit down) A Ransomes 350D (5Gang cylinder-reel-mower Sit down, and a teagle 2.25TAP offset flail. ( 3 point linkage) They are all sit down, less chance of falling off, slightly lower head height. (under trees etc.)
I have never used a stand on mower before. Only walk behind scags back in the day..now I use a cub cadet rider to cut lawns.. I would love to take on more lawns and yet something bigger to make my time more Profitable.and take more then 10 cuts a week that I'm doing now
Great to see someone use safety god bless
Thanks Peggy!
Yessssss. Thank you!!!!! This is a torture test. Well done cub!!! Also, I thought it was bad on an engine to run it hard like that at partial throttle. Am I mistaken?
No- I should have cracked it wide open. your right.
How much does that cost, can it be shipped to Portugal? Thanks
Would you buy the cub cadet slope mower or the Altzo 766I track mower?
What about for your normal homeowner that mows 1-2 acres of their own property once a week, stander or sitdown?
This is awesome with out a doubt
Thanks Trevor!
I prefer sit down because in my area I do a lot of bagging. I also have a stand on that is better for hills and seems like it causes less ground damage. I prefer my guys to use the stand on because it is more compact and they don't hit things with the motor and bagging system sticking way out the back like the sit down mower.
That test is extremely ridiculous 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Who would ever have to mow anything like that. The fact that it survived is amazing
Thats a Super Mower great Video 🤩
Thank you Glenn!
Stander all day one main reason "visual awareness" you can see what your mowing!!! The occasional bending down ,well I'm not a lazy shlub I hustle and squatting once inawhile is healthy!!
I'm with you, Safety First !!!
Yep, thanks for watching!
Hahah at first I thought the thumbnail was a toy lawn mower !!! 😂😂😂😂
I love the stand on when i was in my late teens and early 20's until my knees went bad now i love sit down riding mowers but i love both on small jobs stand on, on large to huge jobs sit down. When i say huge im talkin 1 to 5 acres any thing bigger then that you need a tractor
That's right!!! Safety comes first.
For sure!
Have to go with the sit down wright sentar 48 fits through most gates Plus i am 6'6 . So the standers really dont work for me with homes with low trees
I am 6 foot 5 inch and have not found a stand on unit where I can stand straight up
How would you say this compares to a Ventrac? I believe I would have used a Ventrac with a boom mower. I need a sit down, because of my feet, I simply wouldn't be able to stand on a mower for more than about 30 minutes at a time.
The helmet is great for both safety and a sense of action!
have a lot of cub cadets in this area their blade hubs are junk continually replacing them
Great video!!!
Thanks Tommy Boy!
Keep the video coming
Will do Brian, thanks !
I would use an offset flail behind a tractor for this. VERY impressive video however.
I didn't hit the like button b/c it was on "777" when I watched it. Keep them videos coming!
Thanks Adam!
It really depends for me. Large open fields I like to stand for a while and sit for a while. Smaller yards, stand all day!
I do a lot of large properties so standing would not be practical or comfortable. I run Hustler mowers, which sets the parking brake when you separate the levers so picking up trash is fast and easy.
I like hustler mowers. Haven't had a chance to thoroughly test them though
I can get you in touch with the Hustler rep if you’re interested.
What model cub cadet is this?
Sit down guy because I stand all day working on cars, I am no means a lawn care guy or any sort of lawn mower expert just bought a tiger cat II with the 26hp Kawasaki engine and love it but I think if I owned a lawncare company I’d own both for sure.
It would be cool to put some ag tires on there to replace the stock ones. Probably some 26-12 super lugs
When Stan puts on a helmet, the rest of us BUCKLE UP!
i'm a sitter, because i walk plenty between trimming, cleanup and walkbehind mowing, and i'm just as productive and fast getting off and on as anybody with a stander. plus i can leave the blades running when i get off ( not recommended) 🤣
Good on you for wearing the helmet. Would much rather have some people think I’m a sissy than to be dead. Tgat cub cadet looks sick. I’m picking up a new John Deere Wednesday and I can’t wait. Gonna go with the 500 series. It’s just for home use so I’m thinking that should be plenty. Lol
Lol thanks Joshua, congrats on your purchase!
Walker 48 inch diesel mower with air suspension seat nice ride, Big Money though , breaks easy .fastest residential lawnmower for wet heavy grass, spring cleanup, fall clean up ,added bonus You get to keep the debris ,cost to dump in ny,nj $23 Cubic yard. So now we run a walker 52inch
You can clean the deck, sharpen blades with less effort plus you get a cleaner cut with the counter rotating blades, rear discharge if wanted, other front attachments if needed. More options for the $'s
Does a lawnmower demo cost any money if so how much.
The town I work for uses both sit down and stand on mowers
I like both stand on and sitting
Part of my property has 47 degrees slope, the mower handles it well, mowing down hill.
Does anyone know where to purchase a service manual for the 972 mower? The owner’s manual is an embarrassment Thanks.
Thats because the seat is not adjusted correctly. (I used to have a case fork lift just like the one in the video)
Does that mower have a combine attachment. It needs one. Lol
Stanley you need to check up a altoz track mower for doing stuff like that.
Thanks Jim
Looks more like a big gokart then a mower espically with the helmet
My local cub dealer doesn't offer any deals, but i really want one. Does your local guy like to wheel and deal?
Is that the pro z 972?
I am a Walk behind Guy Lighter weight machine but I am a owner operator and my customers don't want a rider on their lawns but with that said you must price them right or you lose money. This is a niche market and most big guys don't normally want it. because the customer will be in constant contact with you and will point out every thing all the time so this is not production work. but with that said impressive machine.
Stan try to walk in before you start mowing to see were the edge is :)
Now we know why your the way you are!!! LOL You can not hurt a Genadek by hitting them in the head. LOL enjoyed the review on the Cub professional mowers.
Let to see you compare that to the ventrac
You cant dance when that song comes on sitting down now can ya?!?! Stand on for life ! And I've owned sit downs .
I hate when you can't see things that in front of the mower in thick and tall grass just last week I mowed my parents backyard in 3 weeks and had to wear steel toe boots and jeans I'm suprised my 3hp push went through it. There was areas that was so thick it was to my knee caps.
I've got the same mower and 2 Scag turf tigers with the big 35 hp motors. Somebody is gonna say I could cut that on my scag. No you can't. I got the Cub Cadet to cut dams, and it does it well. Plus doesn't cost half as much as a Ventrac
Need a side boom mower for edge work.
11:00 especially when your laying down a asphalt chunk driveway 1/2 mile all day whit a old bobcat wheeled unit
10acres flat terrain... stand on or sit down? My first purchase
I would love to get a machine like that mower
Stanley, good idea with the helmet, we want you to take care of yourself so you can keep making videos for those of us who don’t have opportunities to do these kind of things. Also more importantly you need to take care of yourself for your wife, kids and grand kids
Richard
Thanks Richard!!
The Kawasaki engine manufacturing is located in Maryville Missouri. This plant looks like a hospital surgery room. They make engines for all major mower companies. I love the Kawasaki engine and it is made in Maryville Missouri.
Here's an idea that someone is free to steal. Put a arc track on the mower seat that swings 22 degrees either side so that when you are on a side slope, you are sitting level.....
This is basically a small bush hog if you want to use it that way. I added a winch to my unit on the back plate.
Stander is safer for lakes and slopes but less power and ok cut my exmark riders cut compared to my Wright is a noticeable difference exmark 1 pass clean cut 2 at most during raining season with mulching kit our Wright also has a mulching kit takes a couple passes for a clean cut so i lose a lot of time double cutting
Can you review something that cut and collects? Our sites require collection rather than straight dropping grass.
You need to look at the Walker zero turn mowers. They have built in grass collection systems. No chutes sticking out the sides. Also a high dump option that will allow you to back up to a dump trailer and dump the clipping right in over the side.
@@JDseller1 is that similar to the amazone systems?
I am not familiar with that system and did not find it Googling it. The Walker mowers look like a rear discharge mower in that you can trim with each side. They have an integrated chute that goes up behind the seat and fills the mounted collector. They are a really nice unit.
looks like amazone makes tractor attachments? at quick glance , it looks like a collection system. walker makes self contained rider mowers with a large capacity grass collection hopper on the back that can be dumped on a trailer, in the woods, on a compost pile, wherever. google or youtube them. toro also makes a similar style of mower; not sure who came up with the design first.
Always interesting
Appreciate that Tom, thanks!
Stan, you should make a video about your quad accident. I broke my leg and ruptured my spleen from rolling on a quad.
Sorry to hear that, hope you are doing ok !
Stand on V sit down all depends on the work you do.
I think stand on is safer but on flat ground it doesn't matter.
Tire chains should prob help a lot too
