- In the year 2277 Caesar's Legion launched its first major offensive against NCR forces entrenched at Hoover Dam. This battle ended in a costly NCR victory with large casualties on both sides. In this video I show the tactics used as well as the major moments of the battle. I hope you enjoy it!

Man that Graham guy sounds like he could have a big part in some kind of dlc or something
Couldve said big heart in dlc...
@@noahsains6227 Yeah, you can feel a big flame burning inside him, such a passionate fella
Yeah it sounds like he has an HONEST HEART.
Not memeing but Joshua was based af. Quoting biblical verses while executing dirty tribals ❤
@@glamrockbonnie5983and he probably has 4.99$ for his honest heart
I have never played fallout, but the Lore is kind of interesting.
I think it's neat how the legion set up its forces in the style of early Roman legions; With the youngest/freshest in front (The Hestati), the middle aged, hardend, prime, and more wealthy soldiers soldiers in the middle (The Princepes), and the old guard, the toughest veterans in the back, who were only called on when things were going south (The Triarii). That's a pretty neat homage.
@Homer There's plenty of fun to be had bringing your real life morals. Part of it being a RPG is playing however you like and NV is one of the best at that.
The entire faction is a basically based off of the Roman Empire.
@@homer6292plenty of legion fans who unironically support slavery.
Joshua Graham was a helluva tactician.
@@baneofbanesjus like NCR is literally pre war America during Vietnam war?
Hell with a level 9 Char i've already racked up more human kills than the legion did at the dam, amazing.
Probably untrue. Everything in the game is downsized to compensate weaker hard drives. The Hoover Dam is way bigger in real life than presented in game thus more NCR soldiers would be needed to actually defend it. If I had to guess the NCR casualties would be 1,190 and the Legion casualties 4x that.
@@JohnDoe-xs5gv You can hold defensive positions with relatively few people. Even more when they are as constrained as a dam. Having thousands of people there, they would mainly stand on each other's feet
@@ohauss Do you think the only thing to Hoover Dam is just the top level? Get real moron. You have the entire inner workings that have to be defended. So yes, a thousand men would be needed to defend it. Also add in the fact that they didn't just defend Hoover Dam, they were pushed West, and fought at Boulder City and surrounding areas.
Learn lore, or be quiet.
Love that Obsidian even went in to depth able Caesar's tactics, and more importantly, that it's exactly how Rome's legions fought before the Marian reforms. The lowest-level in front (Hastati in Latin), the mid-level soldiers behind (principes), and finally the elite veterans (triarii) in the rear to mop up any remaining opposition. Incredible.
You should definitely do more lore videos like this! It's amazing content, while also beneficial to the channel as it'll bring more audiences.
Great video as usual!
Thank you I'm really glad you liked it!! I definitely plan on doing more like this, had a ton of fun making this one!
@@T0nik who do you think would win in a fight pre burnt graham or lanius
T0nik just became Oversimplified 😀😀
You forgot the heroic last stand of a few troopers and a ranger that got cut off and surrounded in Boulder City!
I'd LOVE to see all the Fallout extended lore like this! Keep up the good work!
Incredibly well put together video! Please do more of these, you could cover a lot of battles, even ones we've already seen in-game.
Amazing job with the animation! Would love to see more of this in the future!
Yes, more animated videos please. Such a huge fan of the history channels that use them and impressed to see it for one of my favorite games. Great job on this one TOnik!
Definitely a huuuge fan of this, T0nik!! Everything turned out amazing! 😄❤ I'd definitely would love to see more of these in the future!
Really cool breakdown bro, played New Vegas countless times without the context so this is cool to understand
Great video mate! Really enjoy your lore videos!
I'd love a breakdown on who would actually take the dam if the courier was killed, aka no player interaction.
Legion win. The NCR depends too much on the courier
Benny 😂
it's widely accepted legion wins
Legion would win but by the skin of their teeth. The Courier is the only reason the Legion gains access to their broken howizter which makes a big difference in the battle.
Now would the Legion take New Vegas? That's a big no. House's forces would mop up the Legionnaires.
Words cannot describe how much I wanted to see a video like this
I loved the video. I used to play tabletop war games by SSI, Avalon Hill, and others, pushing around the unit markers and swearing at the rng (dice.) Thanks for rekindling fond memories and please, do some more!
This was great, love to see more!
I absolutely loved this dude. Please do more
Now I know why boulder city was mostly in ruins
This was cool. I would definitely watch more videos like this. Great job 😊
Thank you, Im glad you liked it! :)
Really liked this, please do more.
Amazing video, great work!
Thank you!!
This reminds of oversimplified but it’s with my fav Fallout RUclips
Great video, very well made, this must have took a lot of time
This is so fantastic I keep watching in!
Thank you! I really appreciate it!!
Just amazing! Would love to see more battles!
Thank you!!
@@T0nik are you planning on doing anymore I know this idea would be allot harder as there's not any information that would show the true result but I'd love to see your perspective on who would win in the second battle of Hoover dam without courier interference obviously this would mean no house nor yes man and whatever choices the fraction would/may of made before the courier
Amazing video!! Hope you do more and hopefully longer as wel :)
Thank you!! I'm hoping to do some more in the future :)
If the Legion veterans would have stayed at the dam and killed the ncr troops instead of going to Boulder city they probably would've secured the dam.
I don’t think so NCR sharpshooters would be a big factor and waves of NCR reinforcements that should be on the way
@@adammissildine8027"Muh sharpshooters" 😂
Love how you used inkarnate for the map
Finally a TIK-style Analysis on the wars and battles in the fallout universe you should make more about other conflicts in the fallout universe
Great vid!
Thank you!!!
Thank for a great video.
No problem, thank you for watching!
Great job!
Thanks!
This was great, please do more
Thank you!!
this is so cool!!
Awesome video 👏
Thank you!
@@T0nik bro the world sux can you do political videos and then in the end convince people to join the legion 87 tribes already joined up 😎
I absoloutly loved this new format. Can you go more in depth on the Ranger VS Oliver rivalry? What was this about?
Glad you liked it! And yeah through dialogue with Chief Hanlon he says "Oliver can't stand that rangers got credit for victory at Hoover. Whatever I recommend, he does the opposite. I said I wanted them on the ridge. He put them right on the western part of the dam itself. We don't have enough firepower to hold that spot. If the troopers fall back, and they will, the rangers will advance to cover Oliver's retreat. We lose the dam, Oliver and the senate are ruined." So from the sounds of it Oliver wants to hold the dam by himself the next time, so he gets all the credit. This is pretty much all that is said on the rivalry besides a few smaller pieces of dialogue
Only 107 losses for the NCR? I understand that in a post apocalypse there are probably less than a billion people left on the planet let alone in America but in fnv both the NCR and Legion seem monolithic in numbers.
There are hundreds of tents on the Legion side of the river each holding 3 to 4 soldiers each, and while the NCR is spread thin across the Mojave but as a unified fighting force they can forces at least comparable to the Legion.
Oh damn they got FUTURE oversimplified now?!
3:55 Wasn’t there group of troopers by one Ranger pulling off of Last stand Well we’re completely blown to bits after the explosion at Boulder city
That's the maniple system the Legion be using! Looks like it came down to the Triarii after all!
Interesting to see you using inkarnate for the map.
It seemed to be the easiest thing to use for what I was trying to do. I'm not a great artist or animator so it helped me save a lot of time making this video haha
Just love these vids, can we pls have more?? thanks
Working on another! They take awhile to make though haha.
I’m not the best at animating yet 😅
So Oliver really has something to be pissed, since it was him and his troops that held the line while the Rangers and 1st Recon got all the glory. However this eventually caused Oliver to disregard all advice from the Rangers and 1st Recon, effectively lowering the morale of all.
Heck yea this is cool, would love to see the fall of all the cities and tribes as the legion grew during the early years. Or how the city's fell chronologically during the great war.
Flashbacks
The only reason Joshua Graham lost is because he was overconfident. If he wasn't punished and he remained to be the Legate than he would have won the 2nd battle of hoover dam.
I didn't understand it very well when I played the game 😂 thanks for the explanation
haha no problem!!
Niiiice vid
Maybe Fallout Season 2 will animate it
The NCR can be good when it wants to be
2024 love you thank you for teaching me about the game i just started my game play and it is very fun
You are still an active youtuber wow.. new sub to your name
What the tv series did to the ncr is personal because i always picked the ncr ending (i think i picked mister house ending only once) and because my first and as of now the only tattoo i have is the head of a bear ...
Glory to the NCR
What did you use to animate the battle?
Great idea
But the unit markers were incorrect
I liked this video, but no mention of Hopeville being nuked which cut off an NCR supply line that prevented the NCR from counter attacking the Legion? Or was that not within the scope of this video.
Tonik animating now
I'm trying haha, It took me awhile to figure but I still have a lot to learn!
@@T0nik I have a lot of friend’s who animate don’t worry if you are gonna make this a series then you will get really good at animation in no time
Caesar had a choice, and he decided that saving face was more important than keeping his best general. It was wasteful. At most he had to punish Graham, but a symbolic marring would have been plenty. Take one eye or something that serves as a clear reminder to the legionaries.
Was this perhaps inspired by the operations room?
The fist bale of te over dan
Yeah
Joshua after he lost:Caeser you... you can't do this! Caeser:Sets joshua on fire and throws him in the grand canyon. Joshua a couple years later:WE CAN'T EXPECT GOD TO DO ALL THE WORK.
Siiiiiiiiiiiiiick
Very weird that graham made such stupid mistakes. Did they seriously not know about their sharpshooters?
New Vegas fans are so goated
god damn caesar cant even legion properly, thats the maniple system which is pre real life caesar lol
The history books Caeser read while being a FOTA researcher must have covered the period before the Marian reforms. Or simply he preferred this system, which would probably be easier to train tribals with than the cohort system. Perhaps the cohort system will be adopted when the Legion becomes more disciplined and civilized. They'll need it for long distance campaigns where self sufficiency is a must. However if the legions are too self sufficient and disciplined well somebody is going to cross the Colorado River aren't they?
@@pedrokantor3997 did you just use the word civilized and the legion in the same sentence lol....new vegas takes place in the year 2281 and this asshole thought "hey lets use this old system that hasnt been effective for almost 2500 years, also all these laser guns, power armor and modern medical equipment are gay, then lastly we'll bring back slavery like that wasnt the worst shit ever and universally despised" these guys arent ever gonna get to a civilized state at best they might get to a dictatorship calling itself a republic/empire (see what I did there), save for plot armor, literally every other faction could and shouldve annihilated them already.
*Joshua gramcrackers*
Legion wins the sequel
Legion is a romaboo
I love how no one's telling me where Hoover dam is
It's on the Colorado River, on the border between Nevada and Arizona
Yeah I have a question. Is this a god dam?
The name is Graham not Gram.
With the country in the horrible shape its in im recruiting for the legion 87 tribes already joined up 😂
The more you know🌈⭐
2:11 where have i heard that war strategy before? 🇷🇺
This demonstrates why Graham isn't a good leader, and why Lanius is many times better.
