      I think this goes to the depression spectrum and I know it because I'm in the same situation. In my case I know why I am depressed. Maybe some need to find the root cause to treat it, hopefully with a professional.

      Not an expert here, but try listening to music or watching a movie. Give yourself a break. Just come home from work and do nothing. Just sit there and stare out the window. If you get bored, try to count cars by color. OR just go for a walk in a park. Somewhere you have to travel. Basically give your brain a break by experiencing only surface level problems, so that it can refresh and continue doing hard work.

    • @tender3545
      @tender3545 3 года назад +58

      @@NerdyCatCoffeeee I really like the idea of the Pomodoro effect. It's basically working hard for 25 minutes then giving a 5 minute break after. You then repeat this 3 times before giving yourself a 25 minute break on the fourth time. This works for stuff like reading as well just because your brain has time to recoup. I think my problem was that I pitied myself too much. I would say things like I'm "unmotivated" just to convince myself that I don't have to do the work and that it's ok. After I told myself to grow the F!ck up and just do the work, I achieved alot more

      As a recovering codependent. Do it for yourself. You are worth the effort. Your valuable to yourself. If you see that. You will attract others that will add to your value. If you continue to try to please others. They will see you miles away. Run too you and suck you dry. Do it for YOU. A healthy reproductive relationship will just happen.

    Solid video. Key lessons (also things that have worked for me too):
    1. Maintain & spend time in inspiring positive relationships
    2. Set up Jedi Councils, where you have inspiring convos with inspiring people
    3. Take a break or vacation. Give yourself permission to, expect less from yourself.
    4. Explore new things & branch out to things you haven't checked out. (mine right now is Piano)
    Cheers Thomas! :)

If you work hard on these things now, it will be easier on you later. 🍃🌻 trust me. If you keep slacking off, it will only get harder.

I felt like i couldn’t keep up to the expectations. I used to compare myself to everyone and how they were better than me. I just wasnt feeling college so i dropped out. After dropping out, it just seemed like my family hated me so that just made things worse.. BUT THENN i got a girlfriend... she was very toxic... she would get mad for any reason... i was with her for 2 years.... now i think i have depression... i want to do so many things but i always think of why not to do them... and this is not me... in hs everyone came to me for advice . I used to be a very optimistic person,but now... i turned into everything i hated when i was a bit younger.... i just hope to be the person i used to be... :)

    I had my ruts on and off, I’m here because I fell into one last year and I’m still there.
    I’m graduating soon and I never thought it would be like this a couple of years ago. My grades are not that great, I had to give up my hobbies because of the pandemic and it feels like I’m loosing my closest friends. Everyone is going somewhere, some of them met a good partner, others are moving to study someplace else etc. The point is that we barely see each other anymore, and I feel so alone, worthless and left behind.
    I had to put a lot of things aside just to be able to get up in the morning, I have anxiety every day, I’m not lazy but unmotivated. I can’t get anything done in time and that’s giving me even more anxiety. I don’t know what I want or even can do in life and I don’t *really* enjoy anything fully anymore.
    I used to hang out with friends, talk to girls, play video games and go to the gym. Now I barely do any of those things, I don’t even enjoy games anymore! That really worries me.
    It’s hard because I know I’m messing up school and relationships with people but I just can’t bring myself to do anything about it. I’ve never been suicidal or taken drugs, but some days I have the...”what’s the point of doing anything?” feeling stuck in my head.
    I believe I will feel better someday but right now not a second can pass without me feeling disappointed in myself. It’s crazy how I’m an ambitious person but I can’t stand school!
    Just needed to vent here in the comments, it makes it easier to breathe sometimes.

      Yea, I've been planning to grind this year. I just live in a country that I don't speak the language and sitting inside my house all the time just kills my motivation. I've been going outside more often but I think I will definitely be better in Uni when I have my own space and I'm back in an English speaking country.

  • @NotJamie

    *My biggest tip to get out of a rut: find a project*
    Choose something you’re passionate about (for me it’s helping others grow on social media and build their brand) and start a business and start creating content about it.
    Here’s what I did: bought GoDaddy website builder for $7/month (that was the only cost). Then designed the whole website (3 days), started a podcast, and wrote blog posts.
    I also have a personal youtube channel (this one) that keeps me busy.
    Finding a project has given me a purpose all summer and driven me to stay motivated and productive.

    Thomas, How about a video on obtaining new friends later in life.. say 30 or 40. A good friend network was very helpful when I was younger but they have fallen off over the years. How to make new ones?

    • @daniellealbertine5794
      @daniellealbertine5794 6 лет назад +3

      Mutual interest groups or Meetups can help, or reconnecting with old friends.

    • @danprograms
      @danprograms 6 лет назад +25

      It's definitely difficult to do later in life. Once the context and the shared experiences end, it isn't long before those friendships fade. Getting out there and doing things that create that shared experience again certainly helps. I'm 33 and back in college and I've made a lot of friends during this time. I know a lot of those will fade when we graduate, but the good ones should stick as long as I stay proactive in keeping communication open.

When I was a late teenager, I lived with my friends and all we did was play videogames, hang out, saying the same jokes repeatedly. It was exactly what you described. And while it was some of the most fun I ever had; I was also the most depressed/suicidal I had ever been in my entire life. Which never made sense to me until right now.

    -> Connect with your friends, family, etc. and interact with other people

    I'm just getting out of a rut. As always, I'm always blown away with the correlation of fitness and the degree of not being unmotivated. Another factor about health. The degree of your level of health, to a degree, is variable. I enjoy intense weightlifting (5-7 hours/week) and running(12-15 miles). When I'm at 80% and up of my personal health goals, this is when I'm the most productive.
