Never leave a comment but just want to say it's so refreshing how honest these reviews are and you don't get caught up in any hype or consumerism. Keep up the fantastic work as usual!
abstracthc agreed... But if they enjoy it then they don’t feel like they’re wasting their money do they? :) Someone making 50k a year would indeed think these are a complete waste of money!
I find it quite interesting that this “copy” is a problem for people but no one seems to have a problem with almost every blade putter being a copy of Ping’s Anser design.
I tested the P790ti's last fall and could not believe them. Not sure the lofts on them but the 7-iron was going 200 carry and rolling to 205 and felt incredible. when the saleman told me the price my stomach almost emptied itself.
I love my P790S. But the Ti would not pay the price and a couple of yards sometimes gets you in trouble. But if you are rich go for it not ME. I THINK THE BALL is a bit much if it's not going to last. The putter to big for me but I do like mallet putters. Great job Rick love the show
I think Rick is probably the nicest bloke ever. I bought the ‘cheap’ Callaway clubs he tested (I can’t play golf) but looking forward to watching more and more videos and getting a coach to help me figure it all out. Rick has been the inspiration. Love the content.
Rick - my love for the game was started to dry up a bit the past couple of years.. Since stumbling onto your videos, you've really re-ignited my passion and excitement for it. Thanks for continuing to put out quality content and reviews such as this. They do wonders for getting me excited to try new things again. :)
Check out Ricks other videos. He has one for a low end set (180 IIRC). He had a lot of fun and with them. Rick got some other golfers to try them out on the course and the comments were entertaining.
Rick I have been watching your reviews for years. I miss the longest driver reviews, but this new format is really great! I think you are doing a great job. Keep up the excellent work! Also I am Odyssey loyal and would be interested in testing out the Black 10. Tried out the Spider X this year, but eventually went with the Stroke Lab 7 for my bag.
Hello Rick. I used to play with Ping S56 Irons and I changed to Taylor MB and I started hitting it farther, then I checked the lofts and as you mention, the new clubs were stronger. The main problem I have with this is that a get a huge gap between my wedges and my Pitching Wedge. So much that I had to leave the PIng PW in the Bag. I carry a 60° a 54° and a 50° wedges.
Really like these video’s Rick. Clean, honest reviews. Yes the TM and Odyssey look quite the same. So then it comes down to how they feel on the course. That would be the thing that decides the one I would buy.
Thanks for a brilliant review. These prices are getting far out of hand. I´m so glad you are making these video clips in 2160p resolution. They are so much better.
So much better than the first episode mate. Much more detail, narrowed it down to just 3 items and gave loads of insight into each one. Definitely a big improvement loved it
I'd really liked the club reviews when you brought in folks from around the course / different handicaps. You're a stellar golfer with a great swing, you can hit anything superbly well i think sometimes as a viewer its hard to decipher the results since you're so consistent across the board - just a really good golfer! ha. But i'd like to see the guy who shoots 95 and plays a high offset forgiving iron hit something like the new 790's i feel that would be a massive difference. But still love all the content, of course!
I’m getting so disgusted with these prices, anyone with a brain knows the technology increase is minimal at best. Taylormade and Maserati must be working together!
Thimng is, loads are happyto pay that. I still use an old set of wilson's from when i was a kid. I bought them one at a time every few months. I had them regriped a few years ago. Cleaned them a lot. They work fine
This I why I like your videos Rick! You’re not afraid to call the big companies out on there pricing! Surely there has to be a ceiling to hit soon with the prices because £3000 is ludicrous! I still use fi5 Wilson’s and I love them!
Loving the review shows Rick. Can't blame Odyssey for the Spider design. I love the Stroke Lab putters, the Stroke Lab 3 is by far the best putter I've ever had. Definitely agree with you the P790s look so much better than the TIs
The intro confused me because I thought an unbox therapy video started playing and then I hear a British voice and it took me a second to figure it out
I've bought 2 different sets of irons over the years based off you're reviews and you were spot on with both sets but I cannot see paying that much for a set of irons. Keep up the good work, I appreciate what you do!
So what have we learned here a 28.5 degree “7 iron” goes further than a 30 degree “7 iron” in other news water..is wet.. fair play though Rick your honesty is why you are so respected 👌
Rick: I dug my nail into it, I bit it a little bit and it felt soft and that is a good feature for me Also Rick: After playing a few holes I was disappointed by the way that the cover was being damaged.
The stroke lab putter is the real deal. Although I don't have this model, the shaft weighting system really does make a nice rhythmic swing compared to traditional shafted putters......love it I do..
Great video! The main thing that irks my ire with some of the offerings club manufacturers put out is they deceive golfers who don’t pay attention to the lofts, and boosting confidence artificially. For example, I have a set of Titleist DCI irons I had custom fit for me back in 1993. The loft on my 7 iron is 36 degrees. The loft of a P790Ti 7 iron is 28.5 degrees. My 5 iron has 28 degrees of loft! I don’t mind 2-3 degrees of variance in loft between manufacturers. I consider that par for the course. This is exactly why I wish club manufacturers would be more honest, ditch the 3-PW naming convention, and only stamp the loft on the sole for identification. Just my opinion.
The review show is great! Love the format and the idea of reviewing multiple items at once. This seems like a more concise and refined version of what you used to do with reviews, so keep it up!
Well the tech is probably great, but why make it a 4 iron? Just so people can say that they hit their 4 further than someone else? In the end it doesn't matter how far you hit a certain club, just how few hits you needed to get it in the hole 😅
My 7i is 34°. The Taylormade is 5.5° stronger! That's a club and a half. Truth be told, I like hitting my 7i 165 yards. It's totally predictable. If I need more distance, we'll, I simply take another club. I guess I'm old enough where ego and pride have taken a back seat.
😳🤪Two thousand and what now, didn't spend that much on my last car 😂shouldn't these so called big companies bring out a range for beginners at a normal price level to get people interested in the game and help stop more courses closing 🤔2k 😂😂😂on ya bike 🚲 🤣🤣
Golf clubs have always been fairly cheap (till pxg) these companies know that for the guy with the 100K merc and 50k rolex, 3k for some irons is pocket change
I recently saw a set of Honma Aizu clubs at the PGA Tour Superstore in Atlanta, GA. The set included driver, woods, irons, putter and a bag. Retail price was $65,000
A comment on the stronger loft of the P790 Ti irons versus the P790. I saw another review of them and they came up with a pretty good justification for the loft. They do go farther largely due to that stronger loft and they have a lower spin to go with it, but they have about the same launch angle as the weaker lofted version. With the different materials and different weighting distribution they still launch a 7 iron at about the same angle. It's just accomplished with a different loft. Maybe the stronger loft isn't just so they can say they are longer. Maybe it's because they launch at the same angle.
Rick - please review the Snell golf ball! Dean Snell helped design the original Pro V1 and then worked at Taylormade for 18 years as VP of R&D (oversaw the TP ball line specifically) - I've been very impressed by the ball. Performs like a ProV1 but has the urethane cover of the TP5 - Cost is under $30/dozen if you buy in bulk
That Odyssey Putter is a beast! I am in love with it. Will definently be saving to put that in my bag for the Spring. Not a fan of the PS 790 Ti, it looks cheap and the price tag is ridiculous for a "game improvement" iron. The P790s will be my clubs of choice when I get fitted after I hit my weight loss goals.
I have a black pearl flange Honma putter similar to the classic Wilson 4402 yet smaller and it's the best thing ever. Nearly $300 used on Ebay and I found it for $5.25 (Canadian dollars) in a thrift store. Honma equipment rules.
If I was going to spend a bunch of cash on irons I might get the new PXG irons. I'm not saying they are worth the price, but they feel so solid when struck properly. I'm up for new irons this year and I'm going Mizuno. Woods will be Cobra and I'm good for another 8 years or so.
I've got the original P790s and they look premium compared to these P790 Titanium's - who at TM headquarters allowed these to be released when they look like something you'd buy at the pound shop... decent results though in your hands, I've hit the 7 iron and it just seemed a bit meh to look at address and soft/light, not sure if you felt that?... shame as I have no doubt they'd help us mid-to high handicappers and people who need help with distance but £3k!! . Great Video as always Rick.
Tried a Taylormade Project A golf ball about 5 years ago and that Honma Dimple pattern looks EXACTLY like the Project A that I tried (when looking at it from the Alignment line on the ball). Absolutely did not like the look of that dimple pattern and was the reason why I did not test that Taylormade ball any further. But, a SIX LAYER golf ball is just getting mind blowing (because it's all about the feel and how much it will compress).
Thanks for answering my LONG email. I’m glad you picked the P790’s. I am in dire need of new irons. Now is the saving part. Gonna be a long time before I can get them. I love the P790 style. Ok love watching your videos keep them coming. From CHRIS in Southern Maryland
Just watching your RUclips videos and your swing has helped me improve my game I was constantly shoot +55 over par on a par 36 and the other day I shoot a +33 over par
The P790 TI seven-iron has almost the identical loft as my 1983 Ben Hogan Radial four -iron. Evidently the gimmick of putting a 7-iron label on a 4-iron can trick golfers into believing they've gained 30 yards via "modern technology."
Great video again Rick. Personally can't see a problem with any manufacturers taking 'inspiration' from another brand. If it were really a problem Ping would have a great case as a precedent with their Anser putter. That thing has been copied so many times! As for the TM irons, I agree the original P790 is still best - wish I had a set.
So RS...As my hero, I listened to you and got the P790's. Super excited! Thanks for the great reviews. Hope to lower the handicap from 11 to single digits.
I've been a big fan of the Odyssey putters, I grabbed the 2 ball as a beginner. I thought it was funny as all get out that Mr. Tulon "forgive the spelling" built the new design for Callaway.
Great review. I think we all enjoy the fact that it doesn't seam bias... other then pro-v's mabe J/K. but then again I know I'm bias to pro-v's myself.
I appreciate the honest and thorough reviews. I think the price of golf clubs is getting ridiculous. The face of the driver has been the same for years aka the speed the ball leaves the face hasn't changed. A driver 5 years old has the exact same speed off the face as ANY new driver today. Don't believe the hype on these irons and new drivers. Learn to hit the ball in the center of the face.
Maxfli made a 6 layer ball. When they released that U series in 2012. The reason they redesigned prov 1s in 2012 is bc the guy that was designing the 1 and the 1x (can’t remember his name) parted ways with titleist and designed the u4 and u4x and u6 and u6x, 4 and 6 piece balls, respectively.
Love this new Review Show. Could send me broke if I had any money. Think my putter and rest of clubs are 15 years old - PowerBilt (I am still the only person I have know who use these). If I was going to change my putter a Spider would be my choice - now there are two choices. 👍🏻
I briefly (few months) played with Tommy Armour Ti 100s and came to hate them, for several reasons. The thing that sticks with me even now is how brittle the titanium felt even on a perfect strike. Come to think of it, they also had that "club going off in your hands" problem with the short iron distances. Those memories would make me very suspicious of the new P790 ultra-expensive line.
Truly love the new show format/style, but despise the confiscatory prices of new equipment. The Spider rocks. It was only a matter of time before the design was pirated. Keep up the great work, Rick! Cheers!~
That's interesting that he was able to bring over the Patent or IP from Taylor Made. Or maybe the Patent expired? My patents are owned by the company, so leaving and using it somewhere else 100% gets me sued. I don't know how old my White hot #4 is... but I bought it used 10 ish years ago? tested a few new things and never found anything I liked better. Crazy how tech is always moving and sometimes seems to stay still. Great reviews! loving this branch of the show so far.
Rick, love the reviews. One thing I missed was comparing the drive of the Honma to the ProV1 ball, you would hit three of each and compare. Keep up the great work!
I have had a swing of the P790 when I was going to get a new driver and loved the feel, the price is way too much but the regular clubs have a sweet feel to them. I have heard of Homna years ago but never tried them, the ball seems to scuff too much to make it worth the price though I am sure they will work on the cover.
Another great video, I'm enjoying the new format. For me, the new TaylorMade clubs look like they should be coming in at a lower price point as they don't look as nice as the P790's. I suspect they will be out of most people budget for irons.
Hey I recently just got into golfing and your videos are a huge help, but I am currently using some golf clubs that are from when I was younger and aren't the best quality. I was wondering what you do with all these golf clubs you test out. Do you sell them? I also was wondering for an average to a below-average golfer that is looking for clubs that will last a long time and are good quality but not too expensive since currently in college. Where would you buy them and what set?
The exact reason I went to the pxg operator, love the look of the spider but hate the feel and sound so when pxg copied the design I got it, then upgraded to the gen 2 with stability shaft and been happy ever since
Enjoying the review show . With the cost of clubs on the up would like to see a show on 2/3 year old clubs that still perform and are good value for money . Cheers Rick
Which do you prefer Odyssey Black 10 or TaylorMade Spider?
Neither
Rick Shiels Golf TaylorMade spider
Rick Shiels Golf Taylormade Spider
Defo the Odyssey Black 10 - I reckon Batman would play with this...
prefer the looks of the TaylorMade (smoother look) but i do like the look of the Bird Of Prey putter

Had some Tommy Armor all Ti clubs years,ago....loved them accept for way too much offset...bet these are great
So RS...As my hero, I listened to you and got the P790's.
Love that they've put a startrek reference in on the new 'bird of prey' putter 👌 can see the resemblance also!!
I currently have a TaylorMade Spider but prefer the look of the Odyssey. I would love to see a review of the new Cleveland Frontline putters.
Enjoyed this show. I hope you keep it up. Thanks Rick
That’s a crazy price for a set of irons, but fair play to Rick for a good honest review.
Rick absolutely love the new style and content been a fan for over a year now keep it up
Always enjoy your reviews!
I’ve hit the TI Rick. For me my stock p760 goes 185 carry and the TI was a 210 carry. It’s insane. I also found the head being very heavy
Rick, love the reviews. One thing I missed was comparing the drive of the Honma to the ProV1 ball, you would hit three of each and compare. Keep up the great work!
Great reviewsRick, i love yourvideos, so informative and unbiased. Keep them coming.
I have had a swing of the P790 when I was going to get a new driver and loved the feel, the price is way too much but the regular clubs have a sweet feel to them. I have heard of Homna years ago but never tried them, the ball seems to scuff too much to make it worth the price though I am sure they will work on the cover.
Spider, I have had great success w the Ghost Spider and the blade. Great feel and alignment.
Brazilian golfer here. Nice channel, m8! I watch all your vids.
Another great video, I'm enjoying the new format. For me, the new TaylorMade clubs look like they should be coming in at a lower price point as they don't look as nice as the P790's. I suspect they will be out of most people budget for irons.
Rick doing reviews, back to what started it all!
Still using my Ping Pal, 25 years on. Recently had it re-gripped for the first time! 😂
Given a choice I’d have the Odyssey.
I am in love w the #10 Odyssey stroke lab
The exact reason I went to the pxg operator, love the look of the spider but hate the feel and sound so when pxg copied the design I got it, then upgraded to the gen 2 with stability shaft and been happy ever since
Great review! I am a fan of both Putters, but can't afford them so i use my old Wilson putter
Enjoying the review show . With the cost of clubs on the up would like to see a show on 2/3 year old clubs that still perform and are good value for money . Cheers Rick
Glad you got back to reviews man.
Thanks! Be sure to subscribe if you don't already!
You should do a review of “bargain irons” vs the new P790 TI to show the difference (or lack thereof) in performance between opposite market segments.
