i struggle with my 3 wood, so much so that i pretty much just leave it in the bag at all times, on the odd occasion i do chance it, i tend to top it (when hitting off the deck). watched this vid last night and then went to the driving range today and tried the setup tips and it bloody works, both off the tee and the mats i made great contact. The true test will be next time i play on the course, but its raised my confidence levels to at least get the 3 wood out the bag. Thanks Pete, another amazing and easy to understand video 👍
Hi Peter, Wow!! This video couldn't have come at a better time... Thank you so much, Recently bought a 7-wood & 9-wood, but was t having much luck getting them off the mat. Watched your video 3 times, amd armed with your tips headed to the range today.. OMG!!!!! god bless you mate, i was launching balls off the deck like missiles... ❤❤❤ Thanks and all the best. Baz
Hi Peter, love your content! What’s helped me hit fairway woods off the deck more successfully is slowing my takeaway and pausing slightly longer at the top of my back swing. Plus making sure a keep my arc as wide as possible by pushing hands away from my body as far as possible. I then find it easier to push off my lead leg and transition nicely through. I’ve fought long and hard at the range and this for me has eradicated numerous top shots with woods off the deck!
How is it your swing looks so smooth, yet you hit the ball with so much power… do that video slow mo and ground force plates etc? Muscle area used also.
I really enjoy hitting my 3 wood at the range but as soon as it comes to the course I get nervous to pull it out of the bag. I never know when I should use it - as worried about the outcome.
Try using it everytime including the teebox as replacement for driver but dont use a tee... you'll gain confidence.. just place it on top of a decent grass on the teebox.. I hit my 3wood better than my driver
hey pete great video, im having a massive problem with driver and really any grpahite shaft atm with getting the club behind me too much and then my timing is out causing a 2 way miss my irons and wedges are great because i can cover them but woods and driver i stuggle a little bit wiht consistency
I have a Cobra 3-4 wood that is adjustable and I set it to 15.5 degrees of loft.. feels amazing when I hit it but it is a very long club. Since I am using it as a 4 wood essentially do you think I should shorten the club an inch?
Best thing for amateurs is to ditch the 3 wood as we don't have the club head speed. Go with a 5 wood, it'll go farther and you can actually hit it off the ground.
Got to say Pete, this is one of the best teaching videos I've seen. Simple and very well explained.

Straight line test is essentially the best part. Thanx

This is great Pete! Gonna put this to use at the range with my 5 wood!
I spy with my little i…15!
A lovely bat, still use mine 👌
Spot on advice my setup was wrong. trying out tomorrow. Will report back on here
I pull out the XR on short par4s , narrow fws, and windy days....all from the tee. No confidence from the ground.

@@amir3992 yes, I think during the winter I will leave my driver at home and just work on hitting my 3 wood. Try to build that confidence up with it.
I've lost it totally with the 3wd.. can't hit a coos arse from ten feet

When you lift your left foot weight must shift to your right. Do you have to re-centre at the top of your backswing? 😊
Another top video Pete. Do you have any tips on what the arms/hands do post impact
Nothing better in golf for me than catching a perfect 3 wood off the deck. Shame it doesn’t happen very often 😂

Love it when I tag a geeat 3w
How do you swing up 1° and launch at 10.9° with a 14° club?
The launch angle is related to the club’s effective loft at impact but is not the same as it. Typically it’s up to 50% reduced.

My 4 wood is better than my 5 wood, which is better than my 7 wood which is generally better than my 3 wood in terms of distance.
Was it Pete Cowan who said 90% of ams shouldn't have a 3 wood.............
