I’m not sure if it’s because it’s known what comes after, or if it is true here, but the tension here is THICK. You can really tell that their egos have skyrocketed and that, in James’ words, they were off in their own childish worlds around this time. Very glad that they ended up getting help in their own respective ways, as well as reconnecting as people later on.
I quite like this era of Metallica due to their attitudes. They were dicks and weren't shy about it. Much different than now, of course, which maybe just makes past eras stand out more. '97 through 2000 were basically their time to show everybody what assholes they could be, and I'm here for it.
