      How's it after 10 months? If you look closely you can see I've watched this video and commented my progress twice already. First time I had been officially studying for the N5 for a month and I could hear just enough to guess about half right, but I realise now that I had no idea what they were talking about. Now, I feel much more relaxed listening to this. I hope you feel the same!

    tip for beginners: one thing that really helps you to recognise words more easily is learning their correct pitch accent when you learn vocabulary, trust me. I recommend dogens pitch accent videos if youre unsure about pitch accent.

    • @connorhay5823
      @connorhay5823 3 года назад +29

      In studying for the JLPT, your time would be much more effectively spent learning more vocabulary rather than pitch accent. The pay off from learning and memorising pitch accent is negligible for taking JLPT.
      JLPT study is different to learning Japanese. For JLPT you study explicitly for JLPT.
      For daily life in Japan you study Japanese.
      Pitch accent is only worth it if you're learning it for your own personal Japanese ability and not for passing the JLPT.

      No. Pitch accent if you want to sound more "authentic".
      It won't help your comphrehension. And definitely not for beginner.

    For anyone who is currently studying for the JLPT N5, here is a great way to practice your Reading and Listening. It covers grammar and vocabulary used in N5 level exams. You can passively listen, or actively read along with the sample sentences written in Hiragana, Katakana and Romaji and well as it's english translations.

    I started studying in October 2020. I’m a 13 year old so I had to study while also doing school and daily volleyball practices so it was really tough. During the first few months I couldn’t understand basically anything. But I started to improve and during the summer I dedicated about 1or 2 hours everyday to studying. It worked!

    Anime is good for those who knows little Japanese words, it’s easy to pick up nouns and verbs like “tabemasu (to eat), “gakkou (school)”, “inu (dog),” etc. It’s a good reference when you’re unfamiliar with Japanese phonetics, but yeah, I also agree that anime is good learning reference up to a certain point bcause they mostly use informal language, whereas you need to learn how to use formal language first.
    I learned formal Japanese from watching Dramas, movies or Variety shows (those with subtitles). When i began my Japanese lessons, I was allowed to skip the elementary level bcause I know lots of Japanese words and how to question/answer properly. My listening and my speaking are both very good, I just have trouble with reading kanjis, but again, Manga saves the day.
