cheers Marek, another great walk making me miss Blighty (well the first half anyway). to answer your question; the majority of boats are white with blue trim for a couple of reasons: i. white minimizes heat-soak from the sun that causes expansion/contraction and leads to cracking in fiberglass hulls, topsides and decks. ii. the fiberglass used to construct boats is white, any color comes from the gelcoat used to protect the fiberglass and give the boat a shiny finish. gelcoat quickly fades under UV rays and colored gelcoat shows up this fading quicker, so hulls, topsides and decks are predominantly coated in clear or white gelcoat. iii. when color is used on boats, it's usually blue for the simple reason that blue is associated with all things nautical - the ocean, clear skies, etc. sorry to be so boring, but you did ask. also I have to write about this crap for a living.

I said The SS Clunge, because I thought it would get a laugh and I'm excellent at ruining otherwise lovely moments. Unfortunately, I'll now have to stick to that, if I ever get one, because changing a boat's name is unlucky. Even if it's imaginary.

White boats stay cooler and cost less to move. Like airplanes, white paint weighs less than other pigments. Fuel costs are reduced.
