  • A new discovery for me even though the rail mail museum has been up and running since 2004! Hope you enjoy the ride. Big shout out to Kathy T for the filming help. 🙏🏻

Following on from someone's comment about the small size of the train itself and my somewhat facetious put down, I've just had a thought.
If the purpose built passenger carrying trains can accommodate people in the original sized tunnels, how long will it be before the museum ups its game and refurbishes the mail sack chutes down to the platforms from the surface?
The helter-skelter shiny metal spirals were always too much of a good thing to allow the bags to have all the fun. They'd be queuing from Mount Pleasant to Liverpool Street in no time!

Not a fan of potholing when you were a child, I'm guessing.
It might look too small, but as you can see here and indeed in every video of Mail Rail, nobody gets squashed to death.
After all, it was designed to transport mail bags at reasonable speed, not human beings in the shape of postmen. Although the tunnels are 'walkable' and had to be for reasons of maintenance.
      One more point:
You can thank your lucky stars that it's not Paris with its vaunted vacuum postal pipes. That truly would be a tight fit.
