I want to make this build using the ASUS X570 ProArt motherboard and the Ryzen 5950x CPU, but I have a question about using an older case. I have a case that's been in storage for years, something like 7 years and it's never been used. It's the Rosewill Blackhawk Gaming ATX Mid Tower case. Would you recommend using this case with this setup, or is too outdated and won't have proper airflow?

I'm super happy!! I watch many of your previous builds and reviews, taking notes and analyzing the market. I chose the parts of my PC before this video was realised and I ended with practically all the low-end pieces you recommend in here. R9 5900X, Asus Tuf Gaming B550, Noctua NH-D15, RTX 3060ti, WD SN750, BeQuiet PureBase 500dx White, Corsair RM750. Works super well in 3D rendering, with room to upgrade if everything goes well! (±1900€)
    So, thank you very much!

Great Stuff! (sorry for repeat question - please ignore if answered elsewhere). For my 5950x build, I need a 4tb ssd for my project drive because I also use that drive for Dropbox and have a lot of B-Roll I like to pull off of that. I use 4k footage and a lot of b-roll. I have a 1TB Sabrent Rocket 4.0 as a scratch disk. Would I be just as good using a Sabrent Rocket m.2 3.0 (TBW 5800) over the Firecuda 530 (TBW 5100) for my project disk?? I don't want to spend an extra $250 if I won't notice any performance increase.
Puget systems recommends that the scratch disk be as fast as possible, but the project disk can be slower (at least a 2.5 inch SSD.) So, I am just wondering if my timeline playback would be snappier with the newer drive. Thanks!

    • @theTechNotice
      @theTechNotice  2 года назад +1

Depends on your project and the timeline layers and what 4k footage that is. If it's simple, then 3.0 drive is fine. :)

Got the NH-D15 too!! ) Planning a Creator computer months ago, I bought a PNY Quadro RTX4000 for $900 (even though I didn't know much about that card at the time!) TWO CRUCIAL QUESTIONS for you: (1) Can I /how do I successfully set up a Raid 1 (not zero!!) array with the X570 ProArt motherboard for main drive redundancy (I have 2 Samsung 980 Pro 2TBs), and (2) do you think the Quatro RTX4000 will be good for video editing, or should I sell it and get an RTX 3090?? I am not convinced by the Torrent because the GPU can only be suppoted from the side of the case - not the bottom. There are enough alternative good airflow cases though.
The only reason for delaying a creator PC are the GPU prices / availability.
A 3700X can be good enough if your workflow is GPU bottlenecked and 8 cores are enough.

Hi, I am about to finally upgrade from an old i5 usb 2.0 pc with onboard graphics card. I have never needed a gpu as I’m not a gamer and until recently have only used photoshop cs6 for my Raw file editing.
I have been given a GoPro with 4K at 60fps and may simply trim any of the footage I take and my train of thought was to use an intel cpu with its onboard graphics and if this doesn’t cope with the 4K video playback then I may have to delve into what gpu. I intend using nvme m.2 ssd’s and getting a 4K monitor.
I’d much appreciate your cpu and motherboard recommendation that I could upgrade to without going excessively overboard please?

Things would be more even if you compared 1080ti, 2070 and 3070. High performance gpus luckily have long life. For example i used to have 970. Replaced it with 2060 oc since they performed same. 2060 oc performed better with programs that supported new tensor cores(optiX, DLSS etc.).

@@anssisalonen7990 Do you think that the Ryzen 5800x would fit to the 1080 Ti? Yes, the point is that actually every GPU is extremely expensive. And even the 1660 Ti goes for like 500 bucks. The 1080 Ti is often priced at arround 400 bucks ( german prices at used markets). This is why I wondered if the 1080 Ti is still a good card because its about half the price as a rtx 2060 super and even less than the 1660😅

I built one based on your system. I have a few questions. See page 2-16 of the ProArt C570 Creator WiFi motherboard user guide. I plugged in the included DP to DP cable for Thunderbolt 4 as shown in the drawing. Is this what enables the Thunderbolt and type c ports to work? Does the graphics card (RTX 3070 in my case) drive those ports through the MB via that cable? That’s my presumption but can’t find clarification on it. Even after registering the MB and looking through the ASUS website. Also, on page 2-17 it gives a warning to not hot swap USB type C ports. What does that mean and are we at risk for doing that if we switch a type c cable from one port to another while the computer is on? Thanks!

Honestly I’d say the best bang for the buck is either the 12700k or the 5900x. I couldn’t justify getting about the same speed as the 5900x for about $100 more when compared to the 12700k. It beats or is about equal on just about every performance benchmark as the 5900x. $420 ain’t bad for what you’re getting. I also went with the gigabyte aero g ddr4 which was $289 and is a nice white board for my o11. It sits at a steady 4.8ghz constant out of the box, at 60°-70° on my aio. Has plenty of I/o ports and 4 m.2 with pcie gen 5. I’m getting a 23,000+ score in cinebench r23. Those people art boards are damn good looking too though. The aero g doesn’t have thunderbolt on board but has a header for it. Oh also the onboard audio is actually really good.

I just went with the 3070 ti to just get the 19 gbit/s rate , average benchmark for a 3080 is apparantly 204% , gpu userbenchmark may not be a good reference , but to compare , the 3070 ti suprim x consistently benches 193% , so 5% of the performance less , while saving 25% of your money. However , it depends on what kind of work you’ll be doing. I mainly do cpu intensive tasks , so no concern for me whatsoever.
However , if you’re debating on getting a 3070 ti or 3080 , just get a 3080 & hold out just a bit longer. You’ll regret it if u don’t. + pretty safe to say 3080 will most likely maintain its value better (or so I think) . 40 series should be right around the corner as well. So , quite a tricky time to do the right thing.

Also if you calculate the cost of the entire system per core then 5950x looks good because you need to buy PSU, Mobo, Case etc. anyway, adding 10% more for 30% more cores is great.

My devices are TB3 and TB2 but I thought TB was backwards compatible. I can not find any resources online with Asus for troubleshooting the TB issues I'm having. At 1 point I had the TB control software installed but nothing would show up in the window as connected or added. Since I've uninstalled the TB control center software, uninstalled the tb driver and then reinstalled the driver but now I can't install the tb control software. Devices listed above still work when individually connected. Any ideas or resources you know of to correct the issue. My PC is 5900x, this mobo, 128gb ram, 2x rtx 3090s, windows 10 pro. My goal was to have a GTX 1080ti in the aktio node pro connected via tb and my 14tb thunderbay for raid connected. Cinema 4d, AfterEffects, Octane Render and X-Particles is main use for this workstation. Thanks if you have any thoughts.

I'd also make sure your BIOS is up to date, and download Armory Crate and see if any drivers need updating.

@@theTechNotice Thanks. I've checked my Armoury crate app. Bios is up-to-date as well as all drivers. So if and when you use Thunderbolt, are you seeing devices in the Thunderbolt Control Center software? Are you using the Thunderbolt Control Center software at all? Currently I don't have it installed because I get an error "Setup Failed - One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup. Fore more info see the log file. 0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation." but at the moment I have my Thunderbay 4 Raid connected via tb. When it wasn't connected I'd get the same error yesterday.

@@theTechNotice you could benchmark and rate your builds by how much time you would save performing creation tasks. i think this is what creators are really interested in. Also compatibility with OS, Apps, Driver support, real world performance, As many computer components don’t actually perform to specs in real world bench marks. I think budget builders don’t want to pay for components that will not provide much of a cost-to-performance increase. If you have a car and want to drive from California to New York you really don’t need all the luxuries or high performance when the speed limit is only 65 miles per hour. So you want a good reliable vehicle that can do the job. In the case of computers budget builders don’t want to pay for components that don’t provide over whelming performance increase. You know budget builders are tight with money and if the performance increase is not there they don’t wan’t it. Its like a Corvette vs. Ferrari vs. Porsche. The Corvette is faster and allot less expensive.

I buy new mobo and CPU's like once every decade... Because I buy the best (consumer based) CPU and memory there is and then stick with that. Not because I am trying to future proof, its because otherwise I will spend my years thinking of upgrading... "What if I had faster memory" "What if I had 16 cores" and so on.
Then just upgrade the GPU... like three times during the years and you'll have a banger of a PC for a long time.
So you buy the best once then forget about it. A 5950X will be able to game and edit 8K video in the future too... so will a 5900X but you WILL be thinking "what if I had a 5950X?" in 3-4 years. 🤣

I have the same components that he is using, minus the card. Finding a 3070, 3080, 3060 and especially the 3090 in stock at a store or online store (not ebay) is like trying to find a donor for a heart, kidney or lung transplant right now!!!
My local store told me, that the way the list is at his store and their local chain or unless something gives in the supply chain 3 to 18 months wait.
My local store manager said you could get approved for a car or house loan quicker than you can get an Nvidia card right now. He said there is no end in site for the for seeable future and the cards will only get more expensive not less. It is now a running joke and they laugh at me when I come in the store and say Nvidia!!! I was also told if there are any government shut downs it will be even worst.
