I sobbed through this movie!!! I knew I was in trouble with the first scene because I have sobbed in mourning for Travon since the day he was stalked, terrorized, and murdered. Trying to imagine the terror this boy felt as he sensed the deadly danger he was facing has always brought me to tears. What a moving & painfully ugly & beautiful story. I must see it again soon, but I don't know if my heart can bear it. Thanks to the brillance of Ms Duvernay & the cast who performed so powerfully!!!

The white woman's line in the trailer "You're thesis is flawed" sold me on it, so I saw it Tuesday. Unfortunately, it's leaving my local theater after Wednesday due to lack of interest. After they cut away from Trayvon Martin before he was killed, who I don't think they named then, the movie takes about 15 minutes or so to become interesting again.
Then I liked the use of history and figures to support her point. One of the scenes showed Black Americans looking for _All Quiet on the Western Front_ in a Berlin library. It was an anti-war book from a German author and WW1 veteran, so it makes sense that the Nazis would ban it (and him) since it's opposite their narrative, though they don't go into this in the film.
DuVernay said in another interview that the word "race" is overused, and I can see how that and "racism" and "institutional racism" can be off-putting for understanding and reform. I have yet to read the book.

I atleast saw The Original Color Purple or it might be my 1st Choice? Society has long been broken into segments of - Caste/ Class/ & Capitalism. It is the latter that today, drives this train of madness. {the patriarchy & misogyny/ misogynoir are also layers placed on Women, especially, of Color.} Please PPL - go see this MOVIE!! Meanwhile, i will have to wait for it to come out on Cable. But i'm already voting for Democracy; to the elimination of the notions of white, male - supremacy; & the further separations of Society; by cisgender & homophobia & xenophobia & jingoism - so many of these interlocking Oppressions: we are being orchestrated like Puppets, in their little game of making sure only 'certain' PPL will ever really kontrol the wealth & the power - in this Country ... the World. So, any little way they can find to divide us, have us fighting over the krumbs they drop from their Table, always looking to blame so & so, as to well, they have it better than i do & my oppressions is worse than theirs & .... Here's what i think, as a white lower working class woman, now retired: The future is - Women of Color!! Lead the Way & i will happily FOLLOW!!

That's an unrelated issue. Taraji should continue to push for equal treatment and pay. Ava Duvernay is an accomplished writer and director, not an actress. Please brush up on what you're discussing before chiming in.

So wait be grateful that she has what she has but still does not get the correct amount That an A list white actress gets? So basically you want her to settle for less and not fight back and not speak her truth. Do you even here how you sound? Smh

Taraji needs better people around her to get her be paid the amount she believes she deserves. The only issue is that if the movies she is in are flopping like the Color Purple and all her Tyler Perry movies are flopping how can she ask for more money. That’s what her management and team is supposed to do.

You’re confused. Ava Duvernay is an award winning producer and filmmaker. Her most recent production was Now They See US a series about the Central Park 5.

The view is intentionally not reporting on the news that Israel is currently being tried for the crime of committing genocide against the Palestinian people at The Hague. They are being accused formally by the South African government. Please search for the ICJ if you are interested in learning more.
