I did this repair on mine today. It's one of those things that looks really difficult but it's actually quite doable. A set of Harbor Freight snap ring pliers with the rubber grips removed was perfect to get the snap ring through the larger hole.
I replaced that right side o ring, and used the tractor about half the season, and it started leaking again. Any thoughts?? What I do wrong, if anything.
My dad has had that issue before, now he typically leaves the same o ring in and just puts a new one on top and it seems to work. Definitely not the correct way to fix it but that’s what he has found works when it still leaks, otherwise check the pressure relief valves on the top of the hydraulic pump on the top of the axle and make sure those aren’t leaking.
So sad that he did this all wrong. There's 3 seals in this transmission. A packing seal ( what he replaced...) and TWO O-rings (which he didn't). sure to leak again!!!
Excellent Video! I did my 445 today 1.5 hours from getting tools out, jacking up and tire off to change out and reassemble. Test ran and good to go!
I've been filling up my 455 with hydro fluid for years with this ongoing leak - this is a great vid - I'm on it!!!
That part number is wrong according to JD service in Reedsburg - they list CH17653 FOR FOWARD REVERSE SHAFT?
CH17653 is correct. There are 2 Orings in it. take both out and replace. I have seen that others say you can actually put 3 in.

Great video. I will be doing the same repair soon and you saved me a lot of time. Just curious what replacement seat you bought?
The seat was on the machine when purchased, I believe they can be bought on eBay
Very helpful. Thank you!!!
how much did you spend in o rings????
oh but how did you get the snap ring out.
I was able to get at it with a set of 90 degree snap ring pliers

Is there another o r>ng or seal behind this one?
To my knowledge there is not another print behind that one, just one
@@thediygearhead there are 2 o rings in that spot
@@av8or971 I was told to put 3 o-rings back in to fix the leak.
