It was heavily criticized for being on rail back in the day.
They clearly didn't love the game enough to make it more realistic
They spent all of their time making it look good yet the mission was boring af. It was like playing one of those house of the dead games at an arcade. Point and shoot, press X to not die.
@@pessimisticallypositive285 Bruh, and still is. People simply moved on. Only left are those blinded by nostalgia. This mission for most is overglorified cutscene. Even Modern Warfare 3 managed to overcome this by mixing on rail gameplay with normal shooting FPS.

i still don't know why, but i just feel like rain and wet effects in older games look so much more visually pleasing and immersive than newer games. i have recently played through the whole of the original modern warfare 3 again and i just felt so much more immersed in those rainy and wet missions compared to the newer 2019 modern warfare and the new modern warfare 2.

I think that because of the lower quality and more smeared graphics, everything actually looks wet and soaked rather than there being really nice looking individual drops but lackluster “wetness” on actual objects and surfaces

After that mission, after that game only real fighter jet experience can top it. No other game gave that chills and experience
DCS World. Far better and more realistic. This is highly unrealistic flight performance.

I didn't realise in reality F-18s could take off with all that equipment! 10 Aim9X's, 3 HARMs, Fuel Tanks, 2 Aim120s, Unlimited Flares, weird periscope Targeting pod, and a frame made from Vibranium. All of which didn't effect maneuverability or ability to take off from a carrier!
I love how after Top Gun Maverick came out everyone associates everything that has to do with an F-18 with it

BF3 and MW3 was what got me into shooters, so much so I played their previous games. Today's games just don't hit the way that these did.

well I said the same thing for BF3 and MW3 as a veteran Medal of Honor and CoD1 & 2 player. initial games had soul but after CoD2 it turned into a killfest for kids

I remember playing this mission years ago. Fuckin' awesome, keeps me glued to my seat and screen. Like the realistic time-lag where you see them boogeys explode on the ground but hear the explosion few seconds later.
This and the black ops 1 mission where you fly the Sr71 blackbird, masterpieces
Still intense as I remember. I bought this game day one for my Xbox 360 and it was one of the best purchases I made during that generation of consoles. I had some Turtle Beach headsets one while playing this game and the sounds… Ohhhh the sounds where absolutely on point. This mission gave me anxiety when I first played it but I was in awe of how realistic the graphics looked at the time. Awesomely enough the graphics held up reasonable well and this puts a smile on my face!
That landing sequence in the end -I still randomly say "Power, power" in that exact tone from time to time, but have forgotten what the reference is years ago. This refreshed my memory, it's from Battlefield 3. For a while I thought it's from top gear.

First game on my first pc. Dropped my jaw so hard on the graphics and sounds.

Guys,I don't recommend that.Too many hackers,and an awful tech trees which is too long for a new one.Compared with warthunder,I prefer to DCS's F16,at least it is more realistic

Hearing that BRRRT in the air coming at you and firing it back, They did a good job making the gunfire sound absolutely powerful.

This game is old as hell but DAMN! The Graphic is still good! Not to mention the mission. They did a good job experiencing what a fighter pilot was like
Pretty good accuracy up until the dogfight tbh. IR Missiles will not be giving the "tone" because theyre not locking in onto you. Fox 2 is not radar, and only fox 3s will be giving you tone. I know AIM-9X is somewhat of a Semi-Radar, but based on publicly available info, it still functions as a fox 2 just like almost every sidewinder. (I would also assume it was designed to not give a tone radar as fox 2 are more deadlier than fox 3s because it would require the opposing pilot to rely on visual launch than their RWR)
That wasn't even the most innacurate part😂. We gonna ignore the fact that the dude is firing a gimballed gun with a HMD and missiles in the back seat. I aint a helicopter. I could list a lot more
That second missile at 7:04 did a 180 and killed the jet behind LMAO

Awwww the feeling I got when I first played this!!! The only thing I disagree with, is that no Jet is already standing on the "Cat".
Pilots roll the plane to it. And the Mirrors are missing in the cockpit.

I’m so ready for the next Battlefield game it needs missions like this but way better and more player options where you can choose what to do more.

You know I'd play this game and I love this part.
If they want to make a good VR game have them make a game that you sit still in a vehicle like that. Whether it's a car or a plane, just make the immersion be the background that moves not force the player to move in VR when it's impossible without loss of immersion.
I would say this is the most impressed scene in the game of my entire life, still remember at the time when I played it along with my friend, we were being on Skype and my fried was playing slightly ahead of me he made a really big Wow sound at that time then I was confused for a little while and I did the same thing after that

I played this game myself back in the day, but in recent times I have learned that the Mig29 cobra manoeuvre is a bullshit move in close combat because it will relieve you of speed which in turn will make you a sitting duck target. The Migs in this game would not be able to "change roles" like here from the hunted to the hunter.
If anything, the cobra can be used to shake off an enemy, but nothing more.

I just realized what squadron they fly for, it's the Fighting 103 "Jolly Rogers"
