In my experience, the worst part of major surgery is waiting for it to just happen. Hoping that it ends up benign and is an easy, simple recovery. You've got this!
I honestly did not notice it until you just mentioned it. The removal of that benign mass might help open up airways and further improve your performance. Sub-15 5k post surgery guaranteed.
Allie, I'm sorry to hear this. Don't be scared. I'm 76 and had a kidney removed, two bladder resections and a lung resection because of cancer; plus open heart surgery. Basically, you're talking to the OR staff like, 'so when are you going to give me the...' and then you wake up. You may have some discomfort, but probably not much. None of my surgeries hurt as much as my 3:08 marathon in 1981, although the recovery from open heart did take a long time. In that race I remember asking an older lady club member who ran ultras how much harder it is to run a 50 miler than a marathon. She said that childbirth is harder than a marathon, but a 50 miler is a lot harder than childbirth. I'm sure you have greater tolerance for pain than 99% of women and 99.999% of men (I'm male). GOOD LUCK. TELL US ABOUT YOUR ADVENTURE. And keep the Instagrams coming! You have a lot of friends out there who are with you all the way.
I’m a nurse and have worked in the OR for over 26 years. You’re young and healthy, so your recovery should be text book fine! It’s totally ok to be nervous! Putting control of your body in other people’s hands is a fear many people have. Especially going under anesthesia. I’m sure you’ll have an excellent team taking care of you! This is also a good excuse for Spencer to be at your beck and call! 😄
As a competitive runner who has gone through several surgeries, my advice is to approach recovery with the same dedication and discipline as you approach training. Your body's #1 goal after surgery is to recover, not to immediately start training again. Don't rush recovery. Rushing can lead to setbacks. Just be patient. You'll look back on this 6 months from now and be glad you did.
As a long time viewer of your vids, I can say I have never once noticed this!! Wishing you nothing but a speedy and smooth recovery! ❤ I hope by sharing this it helps alleviate any anxious feelings you have - you got this!!
I am a CT Technologist from western North Carolina. I live about 40 miles from the Baxter facility in Marion, where the IV bags are manufactured. Hurricane Helene did a real number on our area, so we are still working with saline shortages. Further, I am a travel CT Technologist who has done multiple Contracts at Boulder Community Hospital (used to be under Mount Tabor, now on Arapahoe). I'm sorry you had to have your surgery pushed, but happy that is was deemed "elective" enough to be able to push it! For the public's peace of mind: there is saline available for you. We, in the CT community, have simply reduced the amount used per scan and removed its usage from scans that do not need it. Good luck, Allie!
I am in pharmacy purchasing and we are definitely still dealing with this situation every single day. I'm so glad you're getting the mass removed and can get this behind you when it's not right in the middle of your busiest running season. You got this!
You got this Allie. I'm a violin player and quite a few of my colleagues had similar problems with one side's lymph notes and had to get operated. In all the cases I've seen it went super well. I will think of you a wish you a speedy recovery (not too speedy, take enough time to rest).
You look fine. The node doesn't look strange at all - it's just that everything looks odd in the mirror. I watch your videos and I never noticed the node until you pointed it out. Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure you'll have a swift and complete recovery.
I completely understand the being able to see it even if others don’t notice it. I had my thyroid out 6 years ago because of a cystic mass, and honestly the best advice I have is sunblock on the scar, and silicone scar patches to make sure it heals flat. Here’s to a good year of health in 2025!
Wishing you the best. The crazy thing about general anesthesia is that you close your eyes and, it feels like a moment later, you open your eyes in a completely different place. It seems like you don’t dream or anything. It is weird. But you are healthy and will be fine.
SO glad to hear it's benign and that you're overall okay. Hope everything can be taken care of smoothly, I'm sure you'll be eager to jump in again after. Overall good news!
paint by numbers saved me (and my mental health) when recovering from femoral neck surgery!! Thinking about you, and I hope you take lots of time to rest :)
Wish you the best, Allie. I went through something similar this year -- needed a surgery so I could move on with my life, but also scared of the whole process -- and actually had it done in October coincidentally right before the IV shortage. It hasn't all been smooth sailing, but we can do hard things and it's way better having it over than anticipating it. You've got this!
Aww. It’s okay! Don’t worry. You got this! I have a bunch on lymph nodes that are enlarged in my neck. A few popping up every month. I counted 23 the other day. Went to the doctor and said it’s fine. But something feels off. Getting an another doctors appointment soon. I understand your track worries. Taking time off sucks. But just know I’m sending love and good luck!
Good luck with your surgery! FWIW, I never noticed the lump on your neck, but glad to hear you're getting it taken care of. Make sure your Netflix queue is full and you have lots of books to read. It's hard to go from lots of working out to none. I was laid up for a month two separate times in 2020 and nearly lost my mind. And that's how I discovered RUclips and it's endless video content. :)
wishing a successful surgery and total recovery. I’m certainly not a professional or elite runner but have 21 marathon finishes including two Bostons. Through my career which still is going, I’ve been through surgery for cancer and then three Achilles surgeries. My next marathon is in two weeks. Hang in there.
I got my cancer diagnosis in March as well. Mine wasn't benign, much different organ than you. I got the biopsy, the scans, the works. They didn't seem to be in a hurry, I had to shut down my season in August, which gives me more time to watch things like your videos. I did my procedure with local anesthesia because I'm more paranoid about them killing my brain. My last radiation treatment (oh that's a pleasant way to spend every morning) was the day before Thanksgiving. I'll still be getting infusions for more than a year, but I'm looking forward to competing next year at whatever level my body allows. That's what I do. I wish you well and I'll keep watching your videos.
All the very best for the surgery and recovery, Allie! Unfortunately, I am the type of person that has had too many surgeries to count- starting at 6 months old (cleft lip and palate stuff) and my last just 3 weeks ago (ankle injury) with a smattering of cancer treatment 6 years ago as well. I forget that it's not normal for people to have surgery, which is actually the not normal part! It's OK to be nervous and apprehensive but have confidence that you are in the best hands. Take this time to get on top of this thing, prioritise your rest and recovery now as we can't wait to see what joy 2025 will bring you. You've got this 💪💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿
Good luck today with the surgery - i understand very well the apprehension having gone through some surgery of my sinuses… But you are lucky to be in a place where medical care is very good. So, best go through it with peace and confidence. We are all hoping it’s all going to be good for you!
You’ll do great. The worst part is waiting. You’ll come out better than ever. No worries, just a little downtime during a really cold month. Win. Win. Thanks for sharing.
Good luck Allie, I hope it all goes smoothly! I had surgery to repair a broken jaw about ten years ago, and while it's definitely scary having someone cut into your head, the recovery was much easier than I thought it would be. My husband also says I've never been funnier than when I came out of anesthesia so definitely make sure Spencer captures that content gold 😂
What gave me peace of mind was knowing that my surgeon and nurses do this day in and out. Yes, they still made me feel special, but I could tell that this was routine for them. They were confident, competent and relaxed. Lean into them to boost your confidence and get comfortable. Also, down as much water/food that you can right at midnight before their cutoff 😂 the more hydrated and less hangry you are, the better
Best of luck. You've got this and will be back even stronger after. When I had an operation before under general anaesthetic I was SO terrified as I had never had it before. Now I've had it, I am grateful I have been through the experience once as I realise how seamless it was and that i won't hold that same anxiety if I ever need surgery again. A small thing that helped me control what I could on the day - everyone said count to 20 and you'll be asleep by 20, I decided I wanted to count down from 100 because I was anxious about still being awake at 20. This just helped me feel more in control and like I had more time, in reality I dont think I got down from 100 to 95. You will be okay, your anxiety is extremely valid too ❤️
Allie, you'll get through this like the champ you are. Enjoy the downtime! And enjoy going under; maybe I'm a sicko, but personally, I love general anesthesia! Dreamtime! Wishing you health and happiness!
All the best with your surgery Allie!! Seems like there is a lot of reassurance for a benign result. I'm sure you'll feel so much better and lighter (metaphorically) when it's out!
Love you for posting on this. I've had several cysts removed and even then some still grow after removal if they don't get all of it, and therefore had them removed again. In my experience, it's definitely best to remove any cysts and keep removing them before they grow too big to minimize the resulting scar tissue and to minimize the probability of more regrowth from remnant cells.
Omg I’ll be praying for you I’m so sorry this happened and I’m glad you still got to race and to have such a great season I hope you recover really quickly and I’m glad it’s nothing to serious but once again I’ll pray for you sending love ❤❤❤
Actually glad to hear this! I've been worried about you in the last few videos and was wondering if you had a thyroid issue like Hashimotos. Prayers for a successful surgery !
Wishing you the best with your surgery. Normal to be nervous. I did notice the lump on your neck but figured you were aware and taking care of it. Always enjoy your videos. Began watching by chance and continued, in part initially, because I recognized the areas you were running in so well, Green Lake etc., having had a very long stay living in the city formally known as Seattle. I wish you the best recovery and look forward to seeing you soon. Take care!
Sorry to hear about your surgery. I'm having something similar in about ten days, ulnar nerve transposition, outpatient, out cold during the procedure. I'm scared too. I have found it helpful to think that every day in many facilities others do the same thing, and many aren't young and strong like we are. So I figure I can do it too. And you'll have Spencer there to comfort you. And you him, probably. Also, visualize when you'll arrive back home. When you come in the door Georgie will be there waiting for you, spinning around and jumping up and down. You are indeed fortunate.
Your excitement and positive attitude towards racing is encouraging me to give it a go and enjoy it someday! I am a cyclist rather than a runner and was about to enter my first hill climb before I got sick and had to take some years off, but I have just started riding my bike again and it is great to have that back, I'm just looking for purpose in it.
We all love you Allie. We'll be praying for you. Looking forward to this all just being a memory and just another bump in the road for you. you're the toughest girl I've ever followed and I know you'll be back out there tearing it up just like you do.
Best wishes, thoughts, prayers, and ALL THE THINGS for the surgery and quick recovery! It's crazy when a medical break is mandatory and how much your body and mind crave being out on the road, trails, or track. You've got this!! ❤
Good luck with the surgery. Tbh, I had never even noticed the lump until this video when you mentioned it. You’re beautiful both inside and out! Be confident in both your inner and outer beauty :)
I honestly never noticed the lump. I totally get being nervous, but you will heal fast. The hardest part is the wait. Can’t wait to hear about your plans for next year!
Sorry to hear this Allie, take time to rest and recover after surgery, you will come back stronger, like a good taper, i know it will be hard for you to be doing nothing,as you do sooo much exercise, embrace this change, rest rest rest, prayers and blessings. B🙏🕯🫠🇨🇮🤞
As someone who has done a lot of surgery on people under GA, I consider it a miracle. You are in the top 99.99% when it comes to health and wellness and you will recover in no time. All the best Allie! Ps, I watched a Boston U 5000m throwback on Flotrack yesterday and I was cheering for you😊.
My 16 year old son had the same thing happen to him this year it was a pleomorphic adenoma. He had it out within 11 days which was a huge blessing. Thankfully it was benign. You'll be fine, we'll be praying for you 🙏
So exciting that you have next year's plan in place - keep focusing on that! Can't wait to hear about it and see it in 2025. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
You will do great with the surgery. When I worked in outpatient surgery I would tell people that being nervous is prepping your body and mind for surgery and recovery and what's to come. You'll look back and think "whew, that wasn't that bad." Whereas someone who may not even blink an eye at surgery will think "holy cow this is terrible." So, lean into your nerves and know that after your blissful nap in the OR you get to begin recovering. Give yourself a good recovery though so you can heal properly. All the best and think of all the recovery your muscle fibers will get without even asking for it. Take care!

Same. The waiting, plenty of time for anxieties to play up, and not knowing how it'll go is the worst.

@rediscoveringcassandra you summed it up perfectly!
SO glad to hear it's benign and that you're overall okay. Hope everything can be taken care of smoothly, I'm sure you'll be eager to jump in again after. Overall good news!

You are in my prayers Allie! Wishing you a quick recovery!
Allie, thank you for sharing this news. Thank god it is benign. Prayers for you and your upcoming surgery. You are an inspiration.

Good luck Allie! The surgery will go just fine as it usually does and then you'll be in great health to announce your debut in the 400 hurdles 💪🏼
Get well soon. Please take care of yourself and keep us posted.
I wish you a speedy recovery!
I really love you and your channel. I'm praying your surgery goes well.
Wishing you all the best for your surgery and a speedy recovery xxx
Good luck, speedy healing!!
Sending good wishes Allie. I hope all goes well, that it is benign and you recover quickly. Thinking of you.
Wishing you the best Allie ❤️
I hope everything went well. 💪🏼
Don't feel guilty because of having to take time off running. After the operation you'll come back stronger

Wishing you speedy recovery! It's ok/natural to be nervous, take the time to completely justifiably get pampered by Spencer.

Good luch with the removal of that node! Will be on the lookout for great recovery news!!
Go Allie. You will get through this. Be praying for you. Great runner and great person. Take care of that spin dog

All the best Allie, speedy recovery ❤
Actually glad to hear this! I've been worried about you in the last few videos and was wondering if you had a thyroid issue like Hashimotos. Prayers for a successful surgery !
good luck with your surgery! honestly i haven’t even noticed it since you first pointed it out in a video. i hope everything goes well tomorrow!
Wishing you the best with your surgery. Normal to be nervous. I did notice the lump on your neck but figured you were aware and taking care of it. Always enjoy your videos. I wish you the best recovery and look forward to seeing you soon. Take care!
Praying for you Ally! Good luck!!!! You got this! 🙏🏼🍀🤞🏼
You are amazing! Praying that you get well soon 🙂
Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery.
Praying for your surgery to go well and a speedy recovery :) I'm keeping you in my prayers
Best of luck Allie and with the recovery. xxx
I hope the surgery and recovery goes well and quickly for you!
Wishing you an uncomplicated surgery & speedy recovery Allie.
I’m sorry to hear you have to get surgery! Wishing you an easy surgery and smooth recovery so you can get back to feeling yourself again. 🥰
Aw girl I’m wishing you all the healing vibes for your surgery!!
I wish you a speedy recovery Allie!!!❤❤
wishing you a speedy and smooth recovery!
Best wishes, thoughts, prayers, and ALL THE THINGS for the surgery and quick recovery! It's crazy when a medical break is mandatory and how much your body and mind crave being out on the road, trails, or track. You've got this!! ❤
Hoping your recovery goes by quickly and smoothly.
Best of Luck 🍀 speedy recovery 🙏🏼
Wish you all the best for the surgery and a patient recovery😊
Good luck with the surgery. Tbh, I had never even noticed the lump until this video when you mentioned it. You’re beautiful both inside and out! Be confident in both your inner and outer beauty :)
I wish you a speedy recovery.
It’s ironic that I have a similar cyst growth under my left side. I am getting mine checked out this week.
Speedy recovery Allie! Will have you in my thoughts
Bless you. On can't plan your surgery, you can plan your recovery. Hope all is well after and that your amazing race continues! ❤
Fingers crossed all goes smoothly and you'll return to your regular self in a speed of light.
I honestly never noticed the lump. I totally get being nervous, but you will heal fast. The hardest part is the wait. Can’t wait to hear about your plans for next year!
Wish you all the best Allie.
Good luck with your surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery!❤

My 16 year old son had the same thing happen to him this year it was a pleomorphic adenoma. He had it out within 11 days which was a huge blessing. Thankfully it was benign. You'll be fine, we'll be praying for you 🙏
God bless you Allie, everything it's going to be just fine 😊
Wishing you a speedy recovery Allie. 2025 is going to be EPIC!!! You got this.

Hope you have an easy and speedy recovery, sending good vibes from Knoxville
Take care!
