good tips on spiralling, PS: what you were getting at with the top corners of the spiral is called Topping in the clock/watch making industry, same process, but on the outside of metal gear teeth; they even have a special lathe/grinding rig for this called a "jay cot tool" essentially what you did on the lathe, but this tool has a tool post to guide the file in its motion on the work.
good video, just what I was searching for, but one question, how do you present the Bowl gouge to the wood, eg flute position and angle to the wood, ie placing a clock face up to the ceiling, in front of your chest what time is the shank pointing to :12:00 , 1:00 or 11:00, and is the handle High or low to the rest? and does this position differ when you go from inside to outside the hollow form, mainly do you cut from outside --> inside or the opposite way?
Hi Andy, the following reply is from Colwin - "On a bowl, the outer side is cut from centre out but the inside down toward the centre. There are many ways to angle the gouge depending on what you want to do, but basic technique is cutting with the flute at 11 o clock on the outside and at 1 on the inside."
Surely when you say you’re investing in new tech, aptc are kitting you out given the profile and association you have with them even if your not in formal employee mode at the time.
Hi Colin, Great video on the goblet , especially the spiral , it was so easy . I will definitely have a go at doing the project .

Excellent work.Cheers Colin.
Many thanks Colwin, a fascinating session. I shall definitely be trying the barley twist!
Thanks Colwin, a great demonstration, you made it look easy.
Thank you Colwin, loved the shape etc... 🤗

Many thanks for another great demo. I am fairly new to wood turning but will definitely have a go at those spirals.
