How to transform Windows 10 into Windows Vista

- In this video, I'll show you how to make your Windows 10 install look and feel as close as possible to Windows Vista. This includes UI elements, programs, screensavers, animations, and more.
Suggestion: I highly recommend creating a restore point before proceeding, just in case your computer starts to function unreliably after this transformation. Also, I highly suggest using 100% DPI scaling for the best experience.

Here are some things I'd like to add:
1.- Windows Mail, Media Center, and the classic "Open With" dialog were not included due to them not working during my testing.
2.- The Windows Update applet may not work after installing one of the first 3 classic programs.
3.- I forgot to copy over the "mstscax.dll" file, so please copy that one as well.
4.- I left a link of a wallpaper pack in description below. I didn't include that in the video since I didn't want to make the video longer than it already is.
5.- I know there's a way of bringing back the old network flyout. The problem is that I've seen someone having issues while connecting to the internet
with this flyout, so I decided not to include it because I rather give up some accuracy than functionality in cases like this.
6.- I've added a RES file for the shutdown dialog which includes the proper string for each shutdown option.
7.- I've modified the "Vista Aero.ini" file and the "Vista Menu Settings.xml" file in order to make the transformation feel more accurate.
8.- Please don't forget to make a backup of the "Personalize" key located at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DesktopBackground\Shell". I forgot to do that in the video, sorry.
9.- After the transformation, the Optional Features window will no longer work, so you'll have to use the Settings app from now on in order to install optional features to Windows.
10.- I've added another Windhawk mod called "Disk Pie Chart" to the description which restores the old pie chart found in the drive properties dialog.
11.- I've replaced a Windhawk mod link and files inside the "10toVista" folder with some updated ones in order to make the transformation feel more accurate. To get the caption buttons mod,
go to the link I've put in the description, copy wadeduck's code, paste it in Windhawk (remove the compiler options line, and compile it). Once the mod's installed, open the mod's settings and enable the Vista caption
style buttons (make sure to click on save settings).
12.- If you're editing "shell32.dll.mui", use the search feature in Resource Hacker, search for "Open Settings", and replace the line with "Open Control Panel".
13.- The theme has been updated, so now the shiny variant is now the normal variant (Aero10 Vista.theme).

I could get Windows Mail and the classic Open With dialog to work, and you didn't install Hold'Em and Tinker for Ultimate Extras.
Also, I recommend using NetAnimate for the network icons.
I have NEVER seen anybody else go THIS in-depth while transforming Windows 10 to look like Vista!

That is very true but some people don't feel safe using Windows Vista and would probably have a difficult time using it unless an extended kernel is used.

8.1 is not possible sadly, there is no accurate start screen program.
@@TheRZone. we dont need the start screen accurate. just install explorerpatcher, go to start menu, then set windows 11 to 10 and make it show full screen. thats it. not that accurate ik but atleast it have live tiles and the start screen full which is my fav.
this is possible without explorerpatcher on windows 10. Go to settings > Personalization > Start and turn on "Use start full screen" thats it.

There is no Windows start button for me when I opened vista menu settings.xml in Open-Shell

No he did windows 11 to 7, and he used really shit software (like windowblinds for example). The only 10-to-7 videos he's released are ISOs and they are very unstable.

Hey... the theme pack you showed... when I opened it, it didn't show the Windows Vista (Shiny) theme... so I applied the (Clear) version... but the explorer topbar looks all weird... help! can you send the proper theme in the description? thanks!
The theme has been updated, so the shiny variant is now the normal one. Regarding your other issue, make sure you have OldNewExplorer installed as some mods applied by the theme require said program in order for them to work properly.

How did you make a window transparent in Supermium?
You need to enable a flag called "Force disabling of Windows 10 custom titlebar" to get the aero transparency and I would also probably recommend enabling the flag "Use Classic Theme" if you aren't using aero to make the browser look more accurate to the type of os transformation you did whether it is a Windows XP, Vista or 7 transformation.

Heya, my Rinfox is looking a little bit different from how you set it up in the video, even though I did the exact steps. The Glass is missing around the back/forward buttons and address bar, and a couple of the buttons don't look right at all (e.g. the Reload and X buttons aren't attached to the searchbar, and the searchbar seems a bit thin anyways). Any tips?

That's because .mun files didn't exist until 1903. In earlier versions, you'd have to edit shell32.dll, but doing that will result in a BSOD due to a broken signature.

I really liked the conversion to Vista, I did as instructed, with the same OS, windows 10 22H2, but there is one big disadvantage. When opening folders or loading pages in a browser (no matter which one), the login sound is played.... I've tried everything, I can not get rid of it, I repeat that I did everything according to the instructions. It happens even if i turn off the sound scheme. Help me(
I think, it's happens because of windhawk, when it loads in right-lower corner
But sometimes it goes away lol

Yeah windhawk seems to be broken currently as none of my mods are working, I dont know when they will fix it,.
Update since my comment seems to be deleted:
You need to open DWMBlurGlass (which should be in system32's DWM folder) and then enable #oldBtnSize. Hope this helps

You have to copy the code and put it in Windhawk by clicking on Create a New Mod; once you've pasted the code click on Compile Mod.

@@fliperpen Экран загрузки от Vista включается легко. Главное включить CSM в биосе и отключить безопасную загрузку. После чего зайти в винде в командную строку от имени администратора, и ввести команду bcdedit
там есть слот Windows Boot Manager, он пишется как Current.
И нужно написать команду: bcdedit -set {current} graphicsmodedisabled yes
После чего графический режим экрана загрузки будет отключен, и вместо экрана загрузки от виндовс 8 будет появляться от висты. Так можно сделать на любой ОС, начиная с 7ки.
по поводу ISO. Почти готово всё, но есть проблема с кнопками на окнах, их размер сбивается и становятся как на ХР, и придётся ставить заново размер. Я не знаю, с чем связано это.
2. У меня не устанавливается Виндовс Медиа Плеер и все эти гаджеты с висты, у меня тупо нет бат файлов для установки, из за чего выбивается ошибка (

Экран загрузки от висты делается легко, нужно включить CSM в биосе и отключить безопасную загрузку, после чего зайти в виндовс и в командной строке от имени администратора прописать:

После чего смотрим на названия слотов загрузчика.
Там будет написан раздел где установлена винда, а именно диск С. Если винда на данном разделе и делаем это на ней, значит всё верно, идём дальше...

Нам необходимо прописать команду:

Нажимаем Enter и экран загрузки от Vista включен.

Что касаемо исо образа, у меня есть некоторые проблемы:
Главные из них - Не устанавливается виндовс медиа центер, и сбивается стиль кнопок на окне от висты. Они в один момент становятся как на виндовс ХР.
Я не знаю, с чем это связано.
+ стоило б найти ещё способ как этот исо образ сделать...
Всё в процессе, Если сделаю всё до конца, пару дней на этой версии посижу, и если всё в норме, буду пробовать делать ISO.

I made an ISO for this, I have the penultimate video on it on my channel, but in Russian. There is something to work on. There is a link, but due to the fact that I received a warning on the channel, it now does not work on the video until it expires. I can send an ISO image of Windows 10 to Vista via discord or telegram or email. But there is one thing... The size of the ISO image is impressive, this is the fault of the dism system in the installer, it so happens that it weighs 10 gigabytes. I've been using this mod for 3 weeks and it works.

For anyone has issue desktop become black after few seconds (And if you restart explorer, issue will cause again after random time). It is because Unglassed. You can disable it (even in Task Scheduler) and it worked with me. (Yes, your Taskbar will not fully black if you disabled it)
That's unfortunately a problem with OldUnglass, although you can fix the issue just by minimizing the window and opening it again.

No, because the system files have different names, so the themepatches and *some* of the applications won't know what they're changing.

There is a file that gives windows 7 lockscreen to Windows 10. You can modify it to look like windows vista with reshacker

Hope its not too late, If windows does update it will break the icons, theme and control panel from my experience. So make sure to turn off windows updates.
@@Boyinthehat465If you’re using Windows Defender then you have no choice but to turn it off or use another AV software. Definition update for Defender will also break some icons in process, and it’s not possible to turn the update off while keeping real-time protection on.

Search for "Internet Options", then go to the Programs tab, click on "Manage add-ons"; finally, select "Classic Explorer Bar" and click on the Disable button located at the bottom-right corner.
