hey mell, could you do a video on dandruff/product buildup and dry scalps? I have been so lost and want to give up. I have so much buildup, and it’s messing with my curls. :/
I struggle with this too, and I’ve learned a lot! Firstly, you have to know if you’re struggling with dandruff or dry scalp. Not the same thing! Remember that scalp is skin. Dry scalp is like dry skin - it needs hydration. But dandruff is a skin condition of the scalp. It’s caused by fungal growth and is usually associated with oily scalp. Product buildup is neither dry scalp nor dandruff but it can cause both by clogging up your hair follicles. If an ingredient in your hair care would clog the pores on your face, it will clog the pores (follicles) on your head! So if you have dandruff that’s caused or worsened by product buildup, get into a really good clarifying routine, and try to avoid product application to the scalp. Make sure that your shampoos don’t contain anything like coconut oil or Shea butter which could clog your hair follicles. The brand SEEN is a hair care line specifically made without pores cloggers (Mell has a video on it) and I love them! One last tip: my clarifying shampoo (which I use monthly) has sulfates and salicylic acid. SA is a chemical exfoliant - it is amazing at getting deep into pores and cleaning them out. Neutrogena has a salyclic acid shampoo but so do lots of other brands and that has helped me keep the oily dandruff flakes awake!
@@biancarosato5904 that makes a lot of sense. while researching, a lot of articles kept clumping the three together. i’m going to say that I have dandruff that worsened by product buildup. I’d clarify your hair as often as needed (for me that’s once a month) with a sulfate and try to avoid putting products other than shampoo on your scalp. For the dry scalp - I think that might self resolve once you get a good cleansing routine going because the skin will actually be able to breathe. If it doesn’t resolve, try drinking lots of water and eating foods high in fat (nuts, fish, etc) or you could always go to a dermatologist!

Love you Mell. You are so cheery - just what we need during this pandemic. I'd love to see a review of Curlsmith, including the HydroFlexi vs. other products in that line, or another battle with a different brand.
This is off topic but could you make a video about how to style your hair in a bun without damaging the curls? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Because I have to wear my hair in a tight bun and hair net for work and I feel like it has stretched my curls soooo much + my curl pattern is already pretty loose to begin with, now i feel like my hair's ruined :(
Interestingly, the Marc Anthony Mousse has been my holy grail for a while now. I always come back to it when I venture out to try out different products. The Curl Cream was my one-and-done product for a while. I also have a very different curl pattern than you!
John Frieda frizz ease all the way! That's the only mousse and oil I use. The products are amazing and I too love purple!!!! Both sides look great but The frizz ease side is my favorite.
I loved this video because of all the explaining about ingredients. I would love a video explaining what ingredients do, what to look for, and what to avoid.
i do not have curly i have damaged wavy hair (i’m trying to bring back) but i find your hair so beautiful and i am watching this so maybe it will help my hair i’m not sure what to do for my hair
I’m glad I watched this video because I love the John Frieda mousse but having a hard time finding it lately, so it gave me the confidence to try the Marc Anthony curl mousse which works pretty well. A little bit of it goes a long way!
I love your videos, they’re so informative. Can you do a video, or videos of your personal favorite combination of products that you use according to season, weather? Do you tend to stick with the same brand from prep to set, or do you have different favorites from different brands that you’ll use for prep through set?
I could only afford the Marc Anthony Strictly Curls at first and while I enjoy the curl cream and lotion used in combination with other brand stylers, I ALSO found that the "humidity shield" claims are lies! And I thought I was using them wrong somehow? Good to know I'm not nutz. Lol I will def try the John Frieda!
It is so funny you are trying the Marc Anthony strictly curls line because I wanted to see how it worked for your hair. I do have the leave in conditioner and it is fabulous. My wash days last longer with this product I love you Mel

I’ve always used one step of these brands and wondered why it never worked for my hair. Idk when but the Marc Anthony products mixes with my body smell, it makes me nauseous. But the John freida brand really changed my perspective on it.
Thanks for the great review videos! I live in Colorado where it's VERY dry and need help with products that will keep my curls juicy and not dry out into a birds nest after 2 days.
I just had to write to you and say you are literally the best... you have helped me so much with my curls already and I only started Binge watching your videos this week...I have 4 daughters, 3 out of the four with curly hair and now I know how to treat their hair because of you!!! Thank you so much!!!!❤️❤️❤️
I’m only at 11:30, but I’ve used both of these lines and I can tell you, from my experience, I love the Marc Anthony best, but I don’t use near the amount of product...lol. When I used to wash, color and straighten my hair every single day, the “Grow Long” line and the coconut oil and Shea butter shampoo and conditioner, worked wonderfully. I love all of them. I have used the JF and they’re ok, too, but I just seem to get better results and better waves/curls with the MA. EDIT: It also seems like when I use either line consistently for a few months, my hair looks and feels better. I think when I get low on my MA, I’ll try JF again. Since I paused to write this, Imma head back to the vid. Thanks, Mel. We appreciate the time you put into helping us with reviews of products and the time you put into making sure we can have the best curl experience every single day!! 👏🏼♥️👉🏼
I used to have to wash my hair everyday. To help curls last longer I need more hold and to deal with my scalp. I use a thicker styling cream to offset the gel with more hold, scrunch when dry. As for my oily scalp I use a tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner from Hask and with a couple weeks use my scalp can go 4 days without washing. Wrapping hair at night with silk scarf helps curls survive for 3 days.
I have the Marc Anthony curl defining lotion I have been wanting to try out John Frieda and also the miracle curls line by Aussie. Would love a review on that as well!
I sometimes use John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Fixation Styling Creme on my 3b hair and so far it’s the only product that didn’t weight down my hair and has given frizz free curls. It is really amazing but I’m currently trying Shea Moisture products to see what works for me.
I just got all the John Frieda stuff you showed. Hopefully it works for my hair. My hair is such a hot mess I always keep it in a bun so I don’t have to deal. Crossing my fingers... thank you!!!
I love your videos and look forward to them each week! I was just wondering if you guys have considered making a video on zero waste curly hair products/routines?
Really awesome product battle&review❤️ and it would be amazing if you do winter routine and I am not sure if you have this product in your country but would you think about doing a review of TIGI Bed Head? Also, you Mell and your seester, you both are really stunning and I am grateful for your curly hair tips 😊

I live in Florida and have color damaged hair, so I’m always looking to tame my frizz! I love the John Frida results. Have you used Carol’s Daughter products? I found their Monoi Ora shampoo and conditioner on super clearance at Ulta, so I tried it. Omg. Best moisture my hair has ever had! Styled with AG Hair products, and my hairs were beautifully balanced! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge to bring my 2b color damaged hair back to 3a-3b curlies!!
John Frieda was the first products I used when I started with my natural hair.... And I still find that its a great product. Also, John Frieda does have a curling cream which is the best as well as their deep conditioner which does wonders. 😁 Thanks Mel for this video. Finally something that we have locally in our country.
I'm a dude researching companies.. Had to like within 3 seconds because of your positive energy 😅. How would you describe marc Anthony brands in general?(cake, etc) Thank you.

From trying different products, techniques, it makes it so much fun and my ringlets are finally back! Love love love your channel.
I really would like to know what you think about so many of these products containing formaldehyde releasing preservatives in the ingredients. I remember throwing away a couple of JF products once I learnt about it and I never even opened the Maui Moisture shampoo I bought because I saw it in the ingredients. I don't worry too much about silicone and mineral oil because I try to balance this new curly hair journey but the formaldehyde bit freaked me out. I'm no hair expert tho so I'd love to hear your opinion on it.
@@llorianailanerodriguezhart6421 what is what? Formaldehyde? It's a preservative that can be very toxic. I believe it's what was damaging all the girls hair in the Devacurl products.

Also...”scent free” products. 🤧 allergies are the worst Love the John Frieda side. I used the mark anyhony other in my camping kit this summer but did not like my results.
Thanks so much! I’ve used some of the products from both lines back in the states, but now living the island life🏝 in the Caribbean, so I’m thinking I need some of these protective ingredients for the constant humidity.

I can't be the only one who thinks Mell's side buns are cute as HECK. Love Texture Tuesday!!
Love watching your texture Tuesday videos. I would love to see you try out Not Your Mother's Curl Talk line!
I love it that you don’t criminalize sulfates and silicones.❤️❤️
Yayy Texture Tuesday!! Favorite day of the week
MINE TOO
I just got all the John Frieda stuff you showed.
I absolutely have! I have a bunch of products ive been looking at to test and review :) stay tuned!
Really awesome product battle&review❤️ and it would be amazing if you do winter routine and I am not sure if you have this product in your country but would you think about doing a review of TIGI Bed Head? Also, you Mell and your seester, you both are really stunning and I am grateful for your curly hair tips 😊
omgg Bed Head takes me back, my mom used to use a gel from that brand when i was really young! Need to get my hands on some, we will definitely be sharing a winter routine so stay tuned! Thank you for all your love

Honestly. I have loved watching your videos. I had straightened my hair for years and it felt like so much work to get back to my curls but your videos make the process fun. From trying different products, techniques, it makes it so much fun and my ringlets are finally back! Love love love your channel.
Ily for your knowledge and advice you helped me so much with my hair journey . As I live in Canada and the weather is rough ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for doing this. Lots of people can't afford high-end hair care. This stuff is as cheap as chips in my country ❤️🇦🇺
I think the John Frieda side wins! Looks more defined, and less frizzy
I use the Marc Anthony products recently and the styling foam wasn’t my favorite either but the lotion and curl cream are good :)
What is that
@@llorianailanerodriguezhart6421 what is what? Formaldehyde? It's a preservative that can be very toxic.
I believe it's what was damaging all the girls hair in the Devacurl products.
Formaldehyde also occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Love your cute videos Mel.
Can we get an updated winter routine and refresh. Us prairie gals are colder and dryer during the winter. Also...”scent free” products. 🤧 allergies are the worst
Love the John Frieda side. I used the mark anyhony other in my camping kit this summer but did not like my results.
mel it would be so cool if you reviewed lush hair care products for an option for those trying to be more ecofriendly!
Hey Mell.
Can you please review Aunt Jackie's products? As a South African student, it is one of the most affordable lines.
Thanks so much! I’ve used some of the products from both lines back in the states, but now living the island life🏝 in the Caribbean, so I’m thinking I need some of these protective ingredients for the constant humidity.
I would love to see a battle of the brands with l-u-s vs quidad and or deva curl !!!! It would help me to decide which products to try next !!!
Love you your channel 😄
Thank God that someone else gets that much of a “hair ball” on wash day! 🙌🏻
Will definitely check out the John Frieda range this winter. I live in the UK, and we've had a unusually long hot summer, during which I've been using the Cantu range and my curls were amazing. Now the weather has reverted to it usual grey drizzle my hair is a frizzy mess.
Just wondered what your thoughts were on the Cantu range, that would be a good product battle. Thanks for all your hard work, Seesters!
She already made a Cantu video. She compared it to Shea Moisture and actually ended up preferring Cantu.
@@Ignozi thank you 😊I’ll check it out.
I love you Mel... You're literally the only curly gal I listen to!
Love your comparison videos. How about Olaplex vs Avedas new Botanical line.
Hi Mell great reviews thank you for this information. Wondering what clarifying shampoos u recommend for drier scalp and hair. Thanks girl your videos and personality are my fave 🤗
This came out at a perfect time, just got done with school and NEEEEDDED some Mel time 😭😍
OMG i need yall! Love me a texture tuesday and i'm so glad youre here!
Texture Tuesday is like a Friday for me 😂 so excited all day for your video! You’ve helped me so much 😫
You should definitely try OGX stuff. They have several lines packed with proteins.
I’ve been on the curly girl method for 3 years, i think it’s time for me to introduce silicones to my routine lol thanks for explaining so well
Just came across this one, the John Frieda side is much less frizzy than the other side, I use his products on my unruly 2b, 2c, 3a mess!
I love you, Mell! Have you thought about reviewing ethically sourced products with biodegradable/recyclable packaging?
Seconded!
