I remember sitting on my grandmothers' porch and shelling peas for at least a full wknd in Bowie County. Even after we shelled them, we had to wash and pack them in freezer bags.. then she would divide them up between the family ( those that shelled got a portion). Yet the memories sitting on the porch remain and the sore thumbs forgotten' I'll always take a bowl and shell peas
This is so beautiful!! That swing reminds me of Aunt Doe’s and swinging on it when I visited the south! I miss those visits! I’m coming to the Purple Pea Festival one year soon!
Yep ... did that too back in the 50's and 60's in Pittsburg, Texas with my Great Great Grandmother. Picked and hulled them too. Love those Purple Hull Peas. Then big dinner chicken, buttermilk cornbread, watermellon ... loved it.
Emancipated Black Texas settlers have a SPECIAL place in history to my way of thinking. They embraced their independence and showed true courage in their homesteading in the southwest. You will find far, far more than the love of purple hull peas in their histories. Juneteenth didn't come from White Texans, folks.
My grandma grew purple hulled peas. I loved those summers at the farm. We shelled so many peas, ah the memories.

I absolutely love those people. I am from West Virginia and the next time I come to Texas I’ll make it a point to come by there.
Love them peas !
How are they able to grow that many peas without the deer ravaging the field ???
"purple hulls and pintos, I've shelled more than my share" -Tracey Lawerence haha
Love PH Peas delicious 😋
I like to mix my green peas with my mashed potatoes. Are you allowed to do that with purple hulled peas?
