    Perfect video, i watched it all, did i hear you say you used 6mm cable? would you be able to advise cable size for my garden shed/garden room, 45meter run im thinking 4mm or 6mm armoured? regards

    Never really understood this new rule of using the grey wire as the neutral. Apparently you're not supposed to use the black because that's "old colours"... so what's the problem? You might incorrectly identify the neutral conductor as a neutral conductor?? Seems safer to use black if you ask me. Not sure if this is in the regs but it wouldn't surprise me!

    I was very interested to watch this, because I have always wanted power out to a workshop in my garden. However, I have always been led to believed that armored cable had to have a trench dug to a specific depth and then different types of gravel use above and below to identify it should someone start to dig in that area. Is this no longer the case with laying armored cable to an external shed/office/workshop?

    • @thecableguyuk
      @thecableguyuk  Год назад +4

      Hi, if you are running cable externally usually you have two options. One of these is 'buried in the ground' and the other is 'clipped direct'. If you are burying cables in the ground a minimum installation depth of 450mm underground is required and this should be judged upon the type of ground and the future disturbance to it. It is also required to use a cable identification, such as a 'caution live cable'. This is usually on a roll in yellow colour. Clipped direct is also commonly used and this is a great way to install power safety, quickly & efficiently. I hope this helps and thanks for your comment, this helps as others may have the same questions as yourself.

    • @B0M0A0K
      @B0M0A0K Год назад +1

      @@thecableguyuk Wow, I didn't know anything about the "Clipped Direct" method, it's never been mentioned by any of the electricians I have asked this question of. I usually explain the requirement and watch as they turn, first grey and then green at the thought of doing this. Then they start to smile as they think up the atrocious cost they are going to apply to this job. I usually get two options for the "under the ground" option. 1. Dig the trench and then refill it yourself (once we have inspected the work) and 2. We will do the whole thing for you (they are usually rubbing their hands together in anticipation when telling me this) "That option is of course much more expensive". Thanks very much for taking the time to explain my other options! 👍

    It sounded as though you cut the original supply cable off that was nicely buried, would it not of been better and more convenient to of re used this?

    • @thecableguyuk
      @thecableguyuk  Год назад +2

      The original cable was a 4 core 2.5 and connected as a spur in the back of a kitchen socket, the new install is a 6mm cable connected directly to the CU. Also as heavy ground work had been done in the garden with the cable just laid under patio slabs I was not going to take that risk for my customers safety just to save £30-40 on cable. Thanks for your comment though, it helps others understand why a knew supply was used. 👍🏼

    Goog clean job I know you will disagree but I like Black as neutral because it was once and make sense on single phase. I know neutral ends up at ground at transformer. And as you said always flag your cables.

      Hi Malcom, I'm not sure if you watched the video on mute or didn't hear but this was ready for dry lining/plasterboard. If it was to be left not being plaster boarded and then used as a garage of course but this is planned to be a insulated office/snug room. We would install either metal or plastic conduit and would use surface white boxes or metal clad sockets dependent on the customer preference if it was a standard cold room/garage. Thanks for your comment however as it's help others understand why we did it this way.
