Met the Tooz in a bar in Milwaukee with my friend. I knew who he was the minute I saw him, hard not to. I tried to figure out a way to get him to talk to us, without the usual kind of brush off that some famous athletes can do. So, I said, "Are you John Matuszak, the actor?" He put on a big smile and said "Yes, I am!" Talked to us for about a hour. We bought him a beer and he bought us one. Talked acting for about half the time and football for the rest. I asked him what it took to be a pro football player and physically how rough it was on the body. He asked us if we played any football. yes, we played in high school. He said, "Well, to play in high school, you have to be a little nuts. To play in college, you gotta be crazy. To play in the pro's, you gotta be fucking insane!" He said "After the first pre-season game, you never feel one hundred percent for the rest of the season. On Monday and Tuesday you feel terrible, by Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, you start to feel better, and on Saturday you start to feel good and then Sunday comes back around." "Hard to keep your weight up during the season and that's why I drink a lot of beer!" Hard to describe how big he was. I guess just saying that a full size bottle of beer in his hand, looked like what a shorty 7 oz. beer looks like in most peoples hand. Just a totally nice guy to us.
"We just play good, hard, clean football" Well, two out of three ain't bad. The Tooz was a good football player and seemed like a really cool dude in a Bon Scott sort of way.
Miss seeing him play. Thanks Tooz. R.I.P........
Matuszak was awesome. Great Great Raider. Al Davis loved him.
He also played one of the most loved character in Hollywood,Sloth in the Goonies.
Guy was fantastic and I love the way he talks about himself in the third person. The Tooz and Alzado were giants in more than one way.
Both guys had problems. But I believe at heart they were good people.

@@willdodge200 Wow! Great story! He sounds exactly like I would picture him in person. So cool! What year was this?
@@80sFootballCards 1986 or 1987. Hard to remember the exact date.
That story does not surprise much. When John was "healthy," he was a very nice guy, and quite insightful about life. The Tooz was an all timer.
Guy was a beauty
My grandpa taught him at Iowa central community college in fort dodge iowa.
Him, Jon Jones and Cain valesquez (possibly other sporting greats) all went there randomly
I forgot about that. And then he went to Tampa, which discontinued football. Tooz had a lot of stops along the way.
his book is a terrific read,
A True 🏴☠️ When 🏈 was a very dangerous Game! 💪🏻
I heard stories about him in the bars in Milwaukee Wisconsin... crazy sob
Tell me some!
He seems high. Either way he was tough.
Not an unreasonable assumption. Dude usually had a brewery, pharmacy and ski resort worth of booze, pills and blow in him….
He's high on pain killers here.
Yeah pain killers and a snoot full of toot
So motherfuckin what
@@Desjarlaisthatgnarlybastage I don’t care I’m just pointing it out for the people who want to know what drugs he is on.
@@PoppysGuitar Probably. I forgive John.
So basically Tooz died of an Opioid OD.
Dammit
