I'm one of those who are on CPP Disability. I hold two degrees - honours) and never DREAMED this would happen to me. You're damn straight the delivery was seriously low. I've been waiting even before the last election. I am now 64 years of age, and will be collecting CPP / OAS and most likely GIS in Dec. 2025.
I paid my tax dollars as a hard working Canadian a received basically @#$% all. When Mr. Trudeau announced $200 starting August 2025, I almost flipped out. The provincial governments will just cut that benefit from their programs and we the disabled will be NO FURTHER AHEAD.
Mr. Trudeau wonders why Canadians are so pissed and demanding his resignation. He is OUT OF TOUCH with reality. I'm luck in a sense bc. I don't have to wait much longer for my full pension benefits which will be a substantial increase. I feel the pain of those who have many years even decades to go before they receive what's coming to them.
This is one of the reasons I watched this entire video bc. Pierre Poilivere hasn't a clue of what's going on or how to handle it.

Also, we need to address the toxic nature of partisan politics, which is the way the political right approaches the popularity question. Conservatives do not respect truth, and their attacks are increasingly personal. America has become so toxic, that you cannot argue in good faith with the other side. Thanks for addressing that concern as an 'academic' having to jump into the mud with them. Wages are up in Canada, and purchasing power is trending upward fast, though it hasn't fully recovered to pre-pandemic levels. But wages are not rising as much for lower-income earners as they are for higher-income earners. This disparity is a significant factor in growing economic inequality.
The affordability issues are impacted greatly by the cost of food. But we have to keep in mind that food price increases due to climate change driven largely by droughts and heatwaves. Droughts cut Spain's olive oil production by nearly 50% in 2023 compared to typical years. Droughts in India and Brazil, major sugar producers, have disrupted harvests, increasing sugar costs. Severe flooding in parts of Asia has damaged rice crops, reducing supply and driving up global prices. Rising temperatures in Brazil and Central America have reduced coffee yields and increased costs due to more frequent droughts and pests like coffee rust...
Wealth distribution and climate change are precisely why the middle class is struggling. But it's hard to communicate and it's probably not a good campaign.

Edit: ok so after now having listened to the full interview i definitely don't want this guy to be our finance minister. The way that he speaks about "bringing people along" and "the dignity of a job" combined with his lukewarm reception to socialist topics betrays him as exactly the kind of optimistic elitist that you might find in silicon valley. That is my sense after listening to him speak for an hour.

@@jinnymay3371 basically those suppositions are based on what I gleaned from talks between Carney and Poilievre somewhere on youtube. We want to paint Canada like a dogooder nation but we have the resources to be much richer, and learn by exploiting them. Good examples are Holland, who refine and export oil on a massive, massive scale. In fact (as I have done whilst working on Holland America cruise ships) if you come into their main cities via sea travel, you can see endless refineries. It's like Mordor. This is not the Hallmark postcard picture of the nation we see broadcasted over the world. They use this wealth to implement strong green initiatives. The point is they access world need for power and take advantage of this. We should do the same. Another examples could easily be Norway, who have a very very strong economy based on northern oil. No one talks about these guys because they keep their heads down and keep to themselves. Live there (I've been to these countries many times) is great. They, for now, are in the now, and acknowledging world needs while keeping an eye on the future and better solutions. It takes money and infrastructure, generations of engineers, scientists to learn through trial and error to get to where we will be down the line. Alberta, Qc, NL have SO much we could use to make a stronger Canadian society, standard of living, strong wages, work for our generations of engineers etc but are shifting the narrative and backhandedly letting shithole countries like Iran, Venezuela so the dirty work.

Pierre Poilievre has been mentored by Stephan Harper which he is a former well respected PM but also an expert in economics. When you print money to pay the interest payments on the country deficit. Not only does it cause inflation but it also devalues that currency. The more you have of something the less valuable it is. The less you have of something the more valuable it is. This Mark Carney guy should advise this idiot PM that we have now to pay down the country’s deficit. Soft on crime is not good for the economy, high taxes, high bureaucracy, high immigration, a housing crisis, safe injection sites. All of these things are not good for the economy. All under Justin Trudeau.

He has not once told Trudeau that his over spending and money printing is causing inflation, that letting repeat offenders out on bail would cause businesses to close shop due to high insurance premiums, that mass immigration wasn’t the answer to fill jobs during the labour shortage which also caused a housing crisis. This mark carney has supported all these destructive policies of Justin Trudeau that brought Canada to its knees. I want things to go back to the way they were under Stephen Harper. Which is low taxes, tough on crime, Canada first, a balance budget, taking production caps off our oil and gas sector.
