    I bet this is far more common around our schools than most people realise. Bullying isn't new. I experienced it many years ago at high school. It was common. Nothing ever gets done about it. There are no consequences for these bullies. There needs to be. No consequence is a huge issue throughout our society. Things need to change

    There are clearly management problems at Pakuranga College. The school should have clear transparent systems for adequately managing these issues. Senior staff have failed in their responsibilities partly due to these wider systemic failures. Accountability needs to come back to the Dean, Associate Principle, and ultimately the Principle for failing to have these processes in place. I suggest this issue is escalated to the board of trustees and then possibly the Ministry (if the board fail to resolve). Remember to document everything in writing, stick to the facts. Avoid further face to face conversations or phone calls. This issue is beyond that now. Write to the board and then ask for a meeting to discuss your letter. Also, ask for all further responses from the school to be in writing.

    Liz Gunn this is so common now. I went through it with my daughter 18 months ago. She was on ACC for 12 months from the concussion. The response from the school was so inadequate.
    Tbh the school that this mum dealt with did far more than our school did!

    The Principal and Dean of the school need to be stood down.
    Schools need to have a definite anti bullying protocol, so that if this happens to any student, the bullies need to be expelled and taken to the police for questioning.
    Summer may need counselling to get her emotional, mental and physical strength back.
    Taking her out of the school was the best thing you could have done.
    It still hasnt changed Pakuranga high schools attitudes, so id send letters to your MP and whomever Liz stated to make them sit up and listen.
    Sending love and strength to your family.
    My brother almost took his life because of continued bullying all through his school years, for having auburn hair.
    Thank god, he told Mum, even though it was hard for him to admit this.
    Summer is very strong to tell an adult what was happening BUT they all let her down at the school.
    Youd think, with such an alarming rate of youth suicides, that Pakuranga school would have a strong anti bullying protocol, written on the wall of the entry to the school with the rights of all students.
    The right to be heard.
    The right to be respected.
    The right to feel safe at school.....
    Im so sorry this happened and has affected so many people.
    Karma will come around tenfold for these thugs.

    A similar thing happened to my daughter 16 yrs ago at Howick college
    It was awful
    Police and youth aid got involved which finally stopped it
    It was horrendous
    My daughter still has effects from it now
    The school was useless at dealing with it
    I really feel for summer Gin and Jess and the whole family
    It effects everyone in the family because it makes you feel helpless and on your own 😢🫣😳😊

    Unacceptable. This is assault with a potential for serious harm. This poor young woman is a victim with seemingly no recourse for justice and protection.

      The government are enablers for this type of behaviour, which is why crime rates are so high.
      Like most other controversial issues of these times, this is a global issue, not just wee NZ.

    With video footage, it is a chargeable case of assault. Contact Oranga Tamariki and go through the procedures of the CPP.

    I was in secondary school in the UK in the 70's and fights happened in both the boys and girls schools. Not just one against one but sometimes small groups after one particularly in the girls school. Admittedly once it was reported action was taken.
    Verbal teasing also happened which can be as painful and it is harder to catch someone in the act and of course there is no physical evidence like a bruise or cut. I was subject to verbal abuse for the 5 years I was there but I kept it to myself. Not sure what would have been done had I reported it.

    My son was racially bullied.had so many injuries,broken nose,back ..etc finally pulled him from school when the school bus driver closed the doors on him as he got off,the driver was also the school secretary and solo teacher aid.never send you child to a school when they are the only pakeha kid.school was a example of how things have gone,it has effected him his whole life,he is now 18. Shame on this Māori “ community “ go far north not.oh and I was basically threatened off the board of trustees,highest risk school and the govt somehow picked the staffs relatives to do audit after audit,year after year about appalling achievement and crime from ex pupils,lose of major money from annual budgets……staff driving the most expensive cars…..so so so bad.

    Maybe some of the problems look like tech being forced into schools and how destructive thats been people, seem to lost their minds on all sorts of programming?
    As well as overwhelmed, short staff and/or incompetent staff that cant manage the immense crisis families are facing today.
    Or the apparent funding that has disappeared which was to support social, health and education services?
    Ultimately it points time again to givt incompetenc and their continued decision and policy making.
    The faster people wake up and see the bigger picture the better🙏

    Liz I am the same age as you and being beaten up at my high school, Howick College, was a daily possibility. It happened in school and out of school. Everyone knew who the perpetrators were and if you were smart you steered clear of them. Myself and another friend decided to make friends with them, play on their softball team after school and thus (hopefully) make ourselves safe. It worked. So this is not new. Stop trying to pretend that it is.

      Then Farmer James passed it on and bullied me!
      Gunn&Alp are bullies.
      It's true that NZ is a very bullying culture. I have been pushing back on the 'old boys network' for decades.
      ~~~~~~
      My thoughts are with Summer. I hope she physically heals completely. It will take time obviously.
      The tone comes from the top. Will Luxon care?
      The school will be victim blaming at least to some extent. Cowards. Psychological abuse escalates now to increasing incidents of physical abuse nationwide.
      Gunn is a fraud I'm sorry to say. She thrives on these stories.
      It's up to all of us. Gunn should insist upon Erika Stanford's total involvement. The Ministry should sue the school board. Give the victims a break.
      Gunn loves to diagnose and to judge but she's just as authoritarian and egocentric as the status quo leaders!
      I'll say it again -
      NZLoyal should deregister.
      The media work is helpful, not the political efforts.
