  • In this video you will see how some peers below a house which are supporting the floors are deteriorating which will eventually cause sagging floors above.
You will see the level of deterioration in the mortar in this video and an explanation of how rising damp functions.
Many people think that installing sub floor ventilation will fix this problem but it will not, it will actually make it worse.
Water from the ground will rise in brickwork to an evaporation point. When the water is in the ground it collects all the salts and minerals and brings it with it as it rises.
Many people think the bad part of rising damp is the water but it is actually the salt which will cause the most damage to your building.
Installing sub floor fans will dry the surface of the bricks and mortar and more water will come from below to replace the water that has evaporated, speeding up the process of depositing salt crystals in your bricks and mortar.
The more salt that is in your bricks and mortar the faster they will deteriorate. We do install sub floor fans but often we recommend against installing sub floor fans.
The only time we recommend to install sub floor fans is if you have mould or bad smells inside your house and the walls below the floor have been prepared properly so that the increased airflow does not deteriorate your piers and sub floor walls.
