The picture he showed was not a hornet. That's Polistes dominula, the European Paper Wasp. In case anyone was interested. It's invasive in the United States, but it's so well established that there's little hope of eradicating it. Was that what flew into Joel's room, I have no idea. But that picture showing a wasp perched on someone's hand was of P. dominula. (sorry for the mini infodump, I'm just really enthusiastic about wasps and P. dominula is my favorite species)

@@saltystick_99 They can be surprisingly chill. I've watched them work in their nests, relatively close up to them. I've had them land on me, and I've also swatted them away from friends, and I haven't been stung since I was a kid. That might be down to luck, I dunno.
