    Awesome assessment. Haney got extremely gun shy after tasting left hook.The right hurt Haney quite a few times in/out clinches too. Haney can't crack...clinches kept him upright

    I was a little skeptical just seeing the length of this video. I thought no way anyone could do a thorough technical analysis of this fight in less than 7 minutes. But you did just that. This is a great tactical breakdown and tells the entire story of the fight in 4 perfectly chosen sequences. Really gives you an idea of whats actually going through these fighters heads in a way thats difficult to recognize watching the whole fight in real time. The fight really did come down to these seemingly simple maneuvers and how they were countered. Like a chess match of small tactical adjustments. Shows how haney may have out thought himself and got too sophisticated to avoid the left hook, only, ironically, to come full circle leaving himself wide open for the left hook. It also shows ryan's tactical persistence to make the adjustments to ensure his signature punch would land instead of giving up on it and trying something else. Ryan isnt known for being a particularly cerebral fighter but he definitely demonstrated some higher boxing IQ here. All the other analysts are focusing on nothing but the pre-fight hype, weight issues and questions about devin's chin, but this video cuts directly through all the BS and truly tells the story of the fight, exactly how it happened and exactly why it went he way it did. Excellent analysis. Great video.

    It was to much for haney to wory about. He was eating right hands because he trained to not get hit by his left hook. Come to find out Ryans right hand is strong in its own right. So when Haney gets hit with the stiff jab there are just to many punches to worry about and extremely difficult to make the correct move. Ryan rly set up his left hook perfectly

    Great breakdown of each adjustments….Haney should’ve used his footwork more to stay on the outside instead of being flat in front of Ryan but he opted to stick with his defense of ducking and smothering where he eventually had no answers for after it stopped working…both fighters looked really underwhelming for me, I expected more from Haney but he didn’t look as sharp as before from previous performances, even with the knockdowns…Ryan is more or less the same fighter he was but Haney was there for the hook all night and Ryan did well landing them…

      Devin didn’t look as sharp as before because he never dealt with natural speed and power as well as someone bigger than him, he couldn’t of used greater footwork because for me his biggest flaw was always his foot placement, way too wide, when you get hit by Ryan Garcia and your feet are wide, easy knockdown.

      Devin has fought guys that are way stronger than him before like Regis Prograis . Regis has K.O power (82% knock rate). The only difference is Ryan is lighting fast and also has K.O power, which is obviously a dangerous combination than throw in a coach with a high boxing IQ like Derrick James in his corner and it was to much for Devin to handle. They had the bluprint to beat him. Devin underestimated Ryans boxing skills and Derrick James boxing IQ.

    Among all things, I think Haney's lack of footwork is what contributed to him losing the most. In my opinion, Ryan actually looked slow for his standard and still had all the same flaws with his fundamentals (crossing legs, lifting rear foot, turning his back with the philly shell like it's his first day boxing etc.) but he was still fast and powerful enough to catch and hurt Devin because Devin's ego got the better of him (which is very unlike him, he's always been extremely disciplined in his fights) and he wanted to fight Ryan head on. It was interesting that he also didn't try to create angles when Ryan would turn his back, instead he would just relentlessly punch to the side of Ryan's body probably because they drilled that in camp. Once Devin was caught, he never gained his legs or composure back and as you said, made no adjustments after the first knockdown.

    • @cgg14767
      @cgg14767 6 месяцев назад +8

      The reason Dev wasn't able to fight the way he usually does is because Ryan is the same height and weight as him. He couldn't properly establish his jab because Ry could catch him with counters, he couldn't jump back to avoid punches because Ryan can close the distance easier than the little guys Dev's used to fighting and he couldn't do his usual grabbing and clinching as his defense because Ryan was stronger than him and can actually hurt him on the inside. Overall, it was not because Dev wasn't himself it's just that he couldn't be himself in there because Ryan is stylistically a bad matchup for him I mean we got glimpses of this during the Linares fight.

    • @krishcharan
      @krishcharan 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@mr.soystein7849 Yeah the way he keeps his jab out after throwing it to control distance wasn't ideal for someone with Ryan's speed and reactive aggression (and with Ryan being taller), especially when Devin isn't going back with the lead hand out, and instead was pressing Ryan.

    I feel I know boxing better than almost everyone, so I rarely think someone can give commentary worth hearing. But this was pretty well done, and in about 7 minutes. ANd I have boxed and was really good. So
    I do not like the comments though about the ref. I like seeing a ref that is not quick to stop a fight. i quit boxing due to being the victim of bad stoppages, where I was not getting hit. And one time, I decked the guy right before the ref stopped the fight, but the ref had his back to the other guy and had no idea he was lying on the canvas. So i quit after many frustrating endings due to bad refereeing. So I wish people would be happy that a ref didn't panick and stop a fight early.
    ANd Garcia was using BUTT defense and turning his back to his opponent. So I felt the fight should be close. I also think it was a punk move to never even try to make weight with the intention of fighting heavy to have an advatange. This is a jr welterweight fight, not a welterweight fight. Its hard for me to feel Haney got beat. And I am not a fan of either. But when someone loses to a guy out of their weightclass, I just never feel like the guy really got beat. If Ryan wants credit, make the weight, fight the guy on an even playing field if you are really that good. The best do not need to have advantages. I would apologize after being matched up with a lower weightclass fighter, and I didn't even cut weight, we probably walked around at the same weight. But I didn't feel like it was a victory unless they were in my weightclass.

Haney had time to put "tattoos" in Garcia's left torso but couldn't find the footwork to perform that artistry. Rather, Devin invested his heart in staying in the fight eleven more rounds, but the fog of defeat never dissipated. Devin proved himself to be a warrior, no doubt, but with a heavy cost.

    Great assessment. There are so many creators claiming that Haney necer adjusted. He did until the KD. He was probably in a fog and in survival mode. Props to Ryan

    Haney did look nervous walking down to the ring.. I still thought Haney would out box Ryan.. I have to say Ryan really impressed me with his performance. He's ment to be an explosive fighter..

    Great breakdown! I agree with your assessment but also want to point out that Haney was struggling to lead the exchanges with his jab even after he initially neutralised Garcias hook. After Garcia rocked him early Haney became too cautious and was content with letting Garcia initiate with that stiff arm probe most of the time, notice that Haney was almost always adjusting defensively while Garcia adjusted offensively. Garcia has clearly worked on his offence since the Tank fight and for that I applaud him, that defence could still use allot of work tho.
    But also Haney didn't adjust his offence even when Ryan demonstrated a poor defence... like when he kept turning his back. He could have (A) targeted Garcia's body more with his right or (B) pivoted to the inside to get around Garcia's "shoulder roll". One of the best weapons against extended probing guards is a right cross and I just didn't see Haney throwing that shot nearly enough. For so much of that fight I was begging Haney to let his right hand go, but nope.
    I was sure Haney would win going in but hats off to Ryan, he shocked the world and proved Haney wasn't the guy I thought he was.

    Instead of adjusting to it, take it away.

    After Haney got clipped early in the 1st round he was quickly able to adjust to Ryan's jab-left hook combination. He negates Ryan's attack for the next couple of rounds by slipping after the jab to avoid the incoming left hook. Ryan also picked up on this and switched up his attack by throwing a right hand instead of a left hook behind his jab.
    Haney gets caught by a couple of jab-right hands, and in the 7th round, the sharp Devin Haney was able to read this again and prepares to catch/parry Ryan's right cross after the jab, this is evident in the slow motion replay as Haney was clearly looking at Ryan's right hand while moving his right glove to try and parry EXCEPT Ryan never throws that right hand but instead followed up with the left hook after Haney exposes the right side of his face trying to catch that right cross that never came. Ryan's underrated right hand earned so much respect from Haney that he completely forgot about the lethal left hook.

    People underestimated Ryan because of the Tank fight. Tank fought a drained, injured Ryan. Tank would never fight this Ryan so do t think Haney isn’t a great fighter. Ryan did what he had to do to win the fight. Haney came in heavy on fight nights vs smaller fighters, he couldn’t do that to Ryan. In an even match Ryan KOs Tank!

    Excellent breakdown, the best thing Haney could have done was to take that jab away from Ryan. With lateral movement, pre-slips, level changes, Long guard, L-guard & feints to make Ryan guess when Haneys jab was coming. He also needs to fix that flaw of letting his rear-hand down when jabbing. But I guess this is also Haneys first time fighting someone with a longer reach advantage that's got blazing hand speed who is bigger. Gameplan was not on point & I think it's time to think about getting a new trainer.

  • @elijahpierre9212

    Ryan did a good job setting up the hook with his jab initially. He would hit the jab for a little bit and then caught him with the right hand a few times. Once Haney started looking for the right hand to come, Ryan would then follow with the left hook. Once Haney felt that power , he was too nervous to react the rest of the fight .

  • @homeuser5095
    @homeuser5095 6 месяцев назад

    Great analysis which illustrates Ryan’s jab probe was the initiator to his success nevertheless, Haney truly did not perform terribly. Perhaps, an actual coach would be beneficial for him. Hopefully a rematch occurs for Haney.
