In between Eric, my inspiration. I started in February this year. Because of the corona, I thought starting playing an instrument. Oh man, what a good decision. Thanks corona. Most of all thanks to you, Eric. Your way of playing, your way of teaching, talking. Your performance is perfect. Please, never stop your teaching. You r , I think for many people inspiring. I do learn already so many things on conga S. In my time there was no internet. You can say a lot of bad things about internet, but there are so many more good things about this. It gives me a lot of pleasure and inspiration. Ok, I stop now, thanks my friend. A lot of love from holland👌🙏🏿
Ever since I saw this video and learned this tumbao, I have been able to find Sr. Ortiz videos on RUclips, and learn from them as well! Thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing conguero. His tumbaos have become a couple of my go-to's when I play!
I had the good fortune of inviting La Mole to Arizona to perform a percussion clinic. The guy had an impeccable vocabulary - he played for an hour without replicating the rhythms. Mixing the bells pattern into his repertoire his creativity was endless. We became very good friends and shared some memorable rumbas together...
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Kaysen Albert i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This guy is going to literally categorize every great tumbao by every great conga player there ever was. We might as well stick Eric in the Smithsonian. What is worse is since 6am I been checking if he put out another video. So, I guess we all are coco for Congas!
Spoke to David La Mole on the phone once , I was going down to Puerto Rico and was trying to schedule a lesson with him, unfortunately it didn't happen , would've been great to have been able to sit down with this legend, R.I.P. Don David...
They all learned from David I even had a class from him one time I went to PR for vacation. Great man and Christian. The amazing "La Mole" RIP Maestro.
Hola Eric... my first time to see you...Man alive, your passion, soulful and relaxed manner, articulation on the drums and speech, ability to communicate shine through...what a devoted person you are. Mater Ortiz was on another level from we mortals. I am going to try to score some Conga.. I have to try... those rhythms go into my bones. Cheers from Texas.
great video. it’s not only instructional but also an insight into conga music roots. Having fun learning this tumbao, can’t leave the drums until i get the mechanics of it, at least. lol
RIP David. I have study his tumba and like you said not easy thanks for making it much more simple. And just to let you know all your videos hit home and help me so much when you do the recap Thanks ...3days a week 😱 can't. Wait.
Eric, I just want to say thank you for putting up this video. I've been working on this combination for almost a month. It is a work in progress but I'm enjoying every minute of it. Thank you for all your tireless efforts and being one of my virtual from the teachers. Appreciate you.-Gerry
Hey Eric! I'm eating, sleeping and drinking tumbaos...........:-). I truly never realised there were so many variations on a theme. My favourite is the Armando Peraza rhythm because that really swings and just connects. Another uplifting and inspiring video, your love and passion for the history and personalities of the congas is infectious and a joy to behold. Also, the overhead cam shots are very useful. God bless you and gratitude for your time and commitment . Blair.

After counting the dooong dooong on the tumbadora is on the 4& (1st measure) and the 2nd beat on the 3 side (son clave) is on the & of the 6 (or & of the 2 in the second measure) .
Hey Eric, could you do a tutorial video on how to play congas and bongo. Not at the same time but seperately. The groove I am looking for is on Gamirey's song " Amor Perfecto". You can find here on youtube. I am talking about the sound when the bongos come in. There is a slap that sounds really high pitch. Not sure if it is the congas or bongos or if they do it together. Please check out the song and please do a video. Thanks and GBU.
Thanks for the videos. Can you make a video on how to play congas alongside the drums please. I play congas in my church and I just try to follow his rhythm, but I don't know if I'm doing it right. Thanks.
a variation: In the the second half of this tumbao on the main drum, replace the palm-finger slap finger-palm-finger open-tone with *full hand Base-finger* slap finger-palm-finger open-tone.
The T-shirt is quite appropriate. Bongo instructions and Spanish subtitles?yuo must be out of your mind and all this hard work and time? Sheesh, when do you take that conga Pkaying Rumbero beatufiful boy of your's to the park? What about quality time with Wifey, working to pay rent and putting rice and beans on the table? You are amazing and I just dig how you keep it fun. You are a passionate Conguero. Blessings my a brother. Hey, let your kid do the bongo lessons and pay him.
That 1st clip of La Mole is from one of my favorite drumming videos of all time!!!! Dude those subtítulos are gonna take such a long time. It would be easier to make a 2nd channel with the same lessons. Or I would guess so.
Same Here... He literally went off for over 10mins!!! ... And I thought about that... But to edit another video and managing another channel would be a lot more work... Editing these videos take over 4-5 hours haha

Primero que todo, muchas gracias por este video! Puedes decirme que marca de conga y tumba tienes? Jaja, Gracias ya leí la información de tus congas! :-)
Another great video Eric - thank you very much. I was with you all the way until you mentioned the clave and now I'm horribly confused so I'm hoping you can help me get my head round it. The tumba falls on the second hit on the 3-side so, if I've got this right, that would mean that this pattern begins with the standard palm, finger, slap, finger, palm, finger on the 2-side...is that correct? And if so, why not start the pattern there? Thanks Andy :)

Eres de las pocas personas que a mencionado a david la mole y su grandesa en las timbas fue el maestro de maestro ., tambien el conguero con mas grabaciones de estudio y con un tiempo de reloj suizo fue su estudiante el famozo jimmy morales
To me it seems that two open tones on tumba fall in 2 side of 2-3 clave, not 3 side. Please correct me if I am wrong. The pattern also starts before the first beat. The first slap is actually the first beat, while open and palm (first two moves) on quinta are immidiatelly before the first beat.
I know you're from somewhere in Central America, but, when you speak Spanish, you have a boricua accent. And I know that accent cause I used to live in that beautiful small island back in 96.
Eric is was a tough one to learn and I’ll definitely be able to slide this into many songs. Took me about a week off and on real slowly until it makes sense.
