Sonora Ponceña is probably my favorite combo ever and I discovered recently that Georgie teaches in San Antonio.... I live about an hour away but it’s a no brainer, I gotta do it
Pedro Caba . Atlanta .GA.USA.
El Maestro Georgie Padilla was my congero teacher for over 6 months in Antonio, TX where he use to lived. Great teacher, friend, family man and story teller. Saludos and God Bless You All.
Georgie, from Guayanilla, P. R. Went to Yauco to finish his high school. We used to call him Georgie Barretto because he was tall, chubby, had the same hair style and wore glasses, plus carried congas with him, just as Ray Barretto. Cool guy and worked his way up to the salsa big leagues. It seems as if this is what he wanted to do since he was a kid.
When I first discovered Percussion Life, I remember thinking "just get to it" After a few weeks, I began to enjoy the backstories. Now I love the history. Thanks for the education Eric. Great tumbao - very nice groove. After a few minutes, I fell right in. I'll "put down the bed for the vocals and lead to lie in". Thank you my brother!
Já! you made me laugh a lot, my oldest son just told me a couple of days ago that he didn't understand why I liked that instrument that "hurts your hands so much", I'll show him the clip of you saying the same 😉 Congas are magic, you gotta' love them
It's funny how I was listening to the same recording a few weeks ago wondering who the conguero was. Now I can go and study the hell outta this great Maestro! 🔥💪
Thanks Eric you dont know how much this little tumbao has helped me to fill in those songs that change from rumba guaguanco to salsa/son fast...If Im playing salsa/son is kind of difficult for me to change fast to guaguanco....but with this tumbao I dont even have to think about it...it falls in place like a glove in a hand...thanks! P.D. I know that does not replace a true guaguanco but like I said it helps to adjust in a second...
Eddie, you are right on point, I actually had the opportunity to sit and practice with him, here in San Antonio, where he reside. Not sure if he is still in the area since COVID, changed the music scene here in Texas.
I appreciate your generosity and attention to detail in illustrating all our talented peers' techniques and spirit craft! Mazacote gordo como decia Giovanni!
Killin video! Fun Fact: Georgie Padilla played in my uncles band in PR before he went to play for Sonora Poncena. I never met him before but FOR SURE, one of my favorites ever.
Eric, Looooove Georgie Padilla such an amazing conga player another inspiration of mine man Eric thanks for this!!!! Have enjoyed this before being on RUclips so appreciate you!!!
Geogie Padilla played with Frankie Ruiz and for a while with the Sonora Ponceña way before playing with Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz... one of the greatest
Eric, can’t wait to work on this Tumbao! BTW, I started playing Congas and bongos thanks to Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz. Those guys are my all time favorites. I have almost all their records.
Fantastic video Eric!!! I've learned so much from you. I was wondering if you have any information on Johnny "El Bravo" Lopez from Puerto Rico. I've heard he's a real beast on the congas.

Fantastic video Eric!!! I've learned so much from you. I was wondering if you have any information on Johnny "El Bravo" Lopez from Puerto Rico. I've heard he's a real beast on the congas.
Of course man!!! He’s definitely on the list to talk about!!!
Dope rythym . How do I transition to 3 congas ? Right now I practice on 2...
I`ts a kind of combination of tumbao & guaguanco, right ? And reminds me the Mongo Santamaria pattern that you posted on March 5, 2018 !!
esta salvaje brother tremendo la rumba no para
Genial!!
Love it
You should do a Ray Colon video
It was great I’m 69 Next week god bless take care Eric
I've been trying to do this tumbao on two congas . I m still working
If I play it in 2 congas, the last 3 hits have to be inverted? Since I have to use my dominant hand (left hand) to do the last 2 opens?
Shanguitoooooo, los van van Asere
fantastic baby, thanks
What kind of styling product do you use in your hair to keep that hold!
I use Matte Clay Pomade... has about 0 shine and 7 hold.
You have to do Sammy Garcia who just happens to be my uncle
Ahhhhh he’s soooo hard to breakdown! He has so much feel in his playing! But yessss he’s definitely on the list to cover!
Does Georgia have the quinto in the middle of the 3 congas in the clip you showed?
It looks like it... I believe he was demonstrating that particular series for Toca Perc ruclips.net/video/FBHuQ4f2emU/видео.html
Are you using the 11.75" conga as your tumba/ tumbadora?
No. I’m using a 12.5” Tumba as my Tumba and 11.75”’conga as my main
