If you try this again, try to get a closed position in the opening, try to avoid trading as much as possible except for queens. Try to enter the endgame with a bishop or knight up, try to trade everything and promote your last pawn in a way that you get bishop and knight as checkmating with B&N takes some time and your opponent may continues to be engaged in the game trying to prevent you from mating in time.

  • @luckylucas8596

if you attempted to checkmate with just the rook and king you could have lasted for 100 turns

You shouldn't cut his king off with the rook, trapping his king in a small rectangle just makes him feel despair and resign.
You should just guard the pawn with the rook and make those king moves. This gives his king freedom to move to almost the entire board so he will fell less despair and it is less likely that he would resign.

Actually what I would do is to just make random checks to the king with the rook while guarding the pawn with the king
after it's over move 50, I will just blunder the pawn and continue to give random checks as if I don't know how to checkmate the lone king with a rook, so it gives him hope to draw with the 50 moves rule and not resign

I wouldn’t care the only reason I would resign is that in endgame the opponent can’t attack me and he only has one room so there’s no way to checkmate me
