From Oceano to Hearst Castle these 2 bad Calif Rangers work..... Morro Bay Camp ground , I entered the park at 5:15 am which is open 24/7 and I also had this free day use pass from the library with me . A Calif Park Ranger / Cop was cruising the campground 2 hours before his shift he stopped behind me as I was letting him pass me. He ran my drivers license and not happy because I am clean he wrote me a BS ticket for not paying the camping fee. He just watched me drive into the park ! I am 70 years old and a veteran and I had this pass and was thinking of taking a camping spot and paying for that. He also banned me from the campground for 24 hours then when I was leaving the park and stopped at the pay booth to re read the rules he pulled up and told me to get out !.... Ranger " B. E " needs some other job... Ranger " K " also..

You have to have 20/40 uncorrected vision to even apply but they are accepting 50 year old applicants? That's extremely stringent, they can accommodate 20/40 uncorrected vision with an applicant and I'm sure the applicant can perform all the necessary job duties. If an applicant doesnt have 20/20 vision it's technically a disability, they should reconsider this requirement so they don't leave them self open to potential lawsuits. I'm sure there potential candidates with these restrictions that will be a great state parks ranger. Also, suggesting lazesct surgery if you dont have perfect vision to apply for a job is ridiculous and not everyone qualifies.

As a police officer as specified in PC 830.1 I have to admit that I watched an episode of California Game Wardens who were patrolling Lake Silverwood in Southern California and were dealing with a sixteen-year-old without a fishing license. A state park officer was with him and one thing that set me back from the state park officer, referred to as a peace officer, was when he told the young man who was giving false information that the next thing that was going to happen was this guy, referring to the game warden, was going to write him a ticket for fishing and then he was going to arrest him. Talk about a power trip. The game wardens could have made the same arrest. It's that kind of arrogance and cockiness that is uncalled for. Both are peace officers with the same authority in the state and that was as demeaning as it could have possibly been. I don't know if that game warden called that state park ranger aside afterwards and told him if you say something like that I'm going to put my boot so far up your ass you'd be tasting leather for a month or not. We are all brothers and sisters out here. Many of us went to the same POST certified academy. When the need arises we back up one another. But we don't demean one another.

So, if you are a lifeguard and wear your red lifeguard trunks under your law enforcement uniform, how do you secure your duty belt when making an aquatic rescue, assuming, of course, you are working alone, as you normally are?

They are fully sworn LEOs and can enforce laws in any state park so they do work

I guess you've never been to a busy state park. Up here where I live we have several lakes. The one that is a state park is very large and has crime at all levels. It also has a large volume of drownings each year.
I started in the military as a military policeman and one of the duties I performed was patrolling the lake that bordered on both military and civilian land. Civilians were welcomed on our side all the time. We enforced military law on military members and civilian law on civilians. It was actually great duty that only the best of the best got and it's not because it was easy duty.
You sound like the kind of person that would be drinking and driving and a school police officer would light you up and you would run thinking to yourself he can't do anything about it. Think again. Are you familiar with PC 830? They have the same authority as a police officer anywhere in the state. I'd suggest if you're anywhere near a state park and your DUI and a state park ranger lights you up you pull over. He or she will call the city police or county sheriff in and they will take over with his or her observations going into the report so as not to take them from their primary duty. But an arrest will happen. I was involved in a high-speed Pursuit where the Los Angeles City School Police we're pursuing an auto theft suspect. That pursuit went for 2 hours. Who do you think made the arrest? I challenge you to be in or near a state park in a stolen vehicle and when they light you up and you run see what happens.
The bottom line? Respect law enforcement for doing a job that most of you haven't got the balls to even try.

Indian Giver Your an idiot. California State Park Rangers are STATE POLICE. There jurisdiction is not limited to a park, city, or county, they can enforce the law anywhere in California. Keep in mind that one ranger will patrol a park thousands of acres big alone. In the southern beaches of California you might have two patrolling a music festival with thousands of people.
