5ft??? You bozos are complaining about a 5ft snake? The pictures flashed in beginning of video made it look like a massive anaconda sized snake and then the reveal of its actual size being 5ft?!
Five feet is not a very big snake. I don't mind snakes and I have grown rather fond of them. As long as they don't sneak up and bite me or aggressively chase me I am okay with them.
Shows how ignorant an urbanized population has become, to get freaked out over a rat snake. Never seen a 5-footer myself, but have come across a few that probably were 3-4’.
@@geemcgraff8281 I totally understand your point and I agree that many people don’t like snakes. Maybe mencken8 use of ignorant can be seen a bit offensive? I have to side with mencken here though. My childhood, outside of school, was almost entirely in the woods behind the house. By eight years old my friends and I were riding mini bikes all day in the woods or building forts. Snakes freaked me out then too but we’d still try to catch them. Today in this country most kids spend their childhood with walls around them. Inside playing video games or in the fenced in yard. When my friends bring their kids on a hike now, it’s mostly on a paved bike path in manicured grass fields. Perhaps unfamiliar works better than ignorant?
They made the picture look like a big constrictor which would be an invasive species. But instead what we got was a native species rat snake. This is not a problem. Your fear isn't the snakes problem.
If you enjoy nature it’s great to be surprised when you discover something new in nature. No need to call 911. Save calling the police till you get back to your car and discover it’s been broken into.
No, it’s not, and no you don’t. There’s no 5’ water snakes, it’s certainly not average, course I have no idea what you’re calling a “water snake” there’s only a few in the US tho, they don’t get 5’. A 5’ rat snake isn’t really average either, that would require them to live for more than a few years which is hard for them to do, especially anywhere near humans. Still not a newsworthy story at all.
Go to any trail in the smokey mountains and you'll find a average rat snake is about 4 ft and 5 ft is definitely within the realm of possibility. And I have pictures of the water snake so I'm pretty sure it existed. and that snake there showing is NoT 5 ft. Most people aren't smart enough to even know what 12 inches looks like.
If their maximum size is supposed to be 8 feet, I probably saw a world record years ago. What amazed me was how thick its body was. It was no mystery how it got that big though, the area was the flood plain of a creek and that water table had been going up for 30 years, so a bunch of small ponds had formed with no fish in them. Every pond seemed to have 1000 polliwogs in it and 100 frogs around it, so the snake had pretty much a limitless food supply.
When I was a kid, my dad found a small black rat snake and he took it home. When it grew to about 6', we took it to an island in Lake Erie and let it go.
That's nothing. That's just a little old corn snake. I grew up in Iowa and that's just a baby. We saw snakes that were 15 ft long and the worst they would do is turn their belly up and make this nasty stink and play dead. They're just weird creatures they're all just trying to get by man leave them alone.
@martykroenecke4273 yea I live in Iowa. Personally never seen a bullsnake over 6 ft or so. Not saying they can't get bigger, I've just never seen one.
You might know them as "chicken snakes". They get huge and could not give two fucs about biting you. Get a couple of them on your property and you won't have song birds waking you up at the azzcrack of dawn.
While rat snakes are not venomous, they do get very aggressive, and it hurts like hell when they bite you. I know first hand. But they do keep rats and mice under control.
If the picture on the video is of the snake in question, that is NOT a Rat Snake. Rat Snakes do not have Keeled Scales, as that snake in the picture clearly has, but rather smooth scales. Water Snakes DO have Keeled Scales, and likely the snake in question. A 5' long Water snake would be a big one, but not beyond possibility. Snakes tend to look far bigger to those afraid of them, than they actually are. Likely a Common or Green Water Snake, either one is harmless.
That is the normal length of a full-grown rat snake, which is indigenous to this area. People oughta learn what their local wildlife is before freaking out about it.
The biggest one I saw stretched the width of a country road, it was no 5" footer to be sure and a friend saw it as well as she was in the vehicle ahead of me and swerved to avoid hitting it...I thought it was a tree limb until it moved.
Meh. I've measured one at 88" in Ohio, and that's a full foot short of the record. I used to remove them from sheds; four or five footers are nothing but average.
Gee, a 5-foot rat snake made the TV news!?!?!?! We wouldn't even give it a second look. Heck, a 5-ft diamondback rattlesnake is no big deal. You got to have something like a 15-foot python before the news would even bother to talk about it down here!
A rat snake is also called a King snake and is a pretty friendly snake ! A Black snake will bite you and can draw blood but is non poisonous; they are more aggressive than a King snake. King snakes are not poisonous and you can pick them up and they won’t hurt you.
I had a far 7 foot long black snake that lived here for years. I called him king and talked to it it wasn't aggressive or excitable. I liked the damn thing. But it moved on or died. Btw I live on a small farmstead.
It's not poisonous; it won't attack people. Sigh. I saw a similar snake in CT a number of years ago by a pond and thought 'cool', rather than 'concern' or panic.
They called the police on a snake?!? We have Rattlers all around us. No one calls the cops about them. Lol maybe I'll call the national guard since they are venomous 😆
People of wildlife when walking outdoors. Please, if you are so afraid, only walk on well paved urban parks, stay away from the wildlife, they are the ones that need protection.
So sad that people are so conditioned to fear snakes, but they've never known anyone their whole life that's been bitten by a a poisonous snake.. It's the two legged upright snakes you need to worry about.

Not a huge snake. Not venomous, yet they had to call the cops on it???
Then you'll be crying when these invasive snakes destroy all the habitat
I know right, they would jump off a bridge if they even saw an Eastern Diamondback
That mayor looks extremely well fed.😮
That is why the snake is hiding !
Never seen a thin one yet..ha..heart attack...

Probably ate the snake

Is it illegal to be a 5 ft long snake? Let the snake be

In New York who knows they may have made it illegal! 😂
Girls don't love snakes below 6ft sorry
OMG, YOU have to be kidding me. People called the cops , because of a 5 foot snake!? I'm going crazy.
that's new yorkers for you
Why is this news? There’s nothing unusual about snakes in a lake. Or large rat snakes. They’re everywhere.
True but WTF is with all these snakes on these mutha fudgkin planes?!

"Officials actually spotted several snakes" yeah i would imagine there would be out in the woods.
