Ive always wanted to learn some Nick Lucas but its very intimidating. I really appreciate you sharing your transcription because I think seeing exactly (or damn near exactly) what he's doing and getting this under my fingers will help me and give me confidence to learn more of his playing on my own. Thanks DC!
PRO TIP: All RUclips musicians should list in the description the guitar they are playing in the video. Many of us can't read the name on the headstock.
"archeological research" - Yes! So important for all musicians to do this kind of work. I've met so many Django players who are shocked when they hear Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti. For me, discovering Lang and Venuti led me down a path of discovering all the early jazz guitar greats. Thank you Denis for illuminating the path! Your work with Jonathan Stout is so helpful!!
Hey Denis, have you chatted with Matt Munisteri about doing some videos for DC Music School on this topic? I know he already does videos for Peghead Nation but I think DC Music could really create some awesome videos with him and this style!
I advise you to check out Al Valenti,a guitarist who played with a pick whole solo pieces, even things like Bach. Also the master of voice leading in early jazz is George Van Eps,who played with Benny Goodman. He played with a pick in the 30's,before switching to fingerstyle and 7-string guitar.I feel this art is kind of lost except for some contemporary master chord guitarists like Jonathan Stout and Lorenzo Cortez, who you did interviewed, and are influenced by Alan Reuss and Van Eps (for chord playing)
Here is the transcription on Soundslice! Leave a comment if you enjoy the content! Thanks!

I would love to see you do more videos for us teaching us this style. I am a huge Eddie Lang fan and I want to try and learn his style.

Glad I'm not the only one that played this song over and over till I figured out how to play this solo.

As an archaeologist, I appreciate the analogy. As a Djangophile, I'm stoked you mention Django
The fast intro of April Kisses always amazes me as Eddie Lang's picking sounds so powerful.

Thank you for the videos on these lesser discussed topics, Denis.
This is excellent, I really appreciate what you present and can't wait to check out more of your videos.

Very interesting topic. There are some great flatpicking fellows out there playing country... the mystery of evolution...
Great video! Would love one on Eddie Lang at some point!
Cool technique and can’t wait to try and learn this 1. I have only learned the tiny Tim uke version😄

Totally agree!!!
Trying to get into Gypsy jazz and arch tops. Do you use the traditional pick or a thump pick? Good job by the way.
