Thanks for doing the video with me. We both understood that there would be some controversy surrounding WATA encapsalating the games. I bought these more than 2 years ago and there is not currently another company authenticating, dumping and encapsalating prototypes. I have a copy of each of the roms, as does Frank and WATA. The primary focus is saving the data and making sure the item itself is authentic/protected from accidents. I believe we accomplished those goals. A couple of the stickers fell off during transit and WATA will re-case them for me with covered windows. I will be releasing the data in the near future for all the games that have significant differences to the retail code. Above all I hope people can enjoy the hobby of collecting, playing retro to new video games regardless if you agree with my decision i made over 2 years ago. This is a very cool and unique find in our hobby and that is the main focus of the video. Cheers and happy gaming. :)
Thanks for letting me unbox these with you Josh. And thanks for the clarification. 👍
Update: Josh (owner) is working with Frank (Video Game History Foundation) to publicly release the few roms that are unique. Feel free to reach out to him for details.
I’m interested to know if Ninja Gaiden is one of the less-censored prototypes.
Good to hear!
THAT IS SO GOOD TO HEAR!
I see a few issues with some of those games, the ones that have batteries. What if they leak?? I know 2032 batteries aren't prone to leaking, but it still happens.
@@david3199 Definitely, seems a very odd choice to slab those cartridges without pulling the battery off.
I suppose (hope) that Josh was asked about it and choose to preserve them as they were.
I'm glad that Frank Cifaldi was involved, and that he dumped the ROMs. Otherwise, entombing the games in those WATA cases would be an outright tragedy.
Amen.
Wata is part of the problem with retro gaming
In this case, Wata did not grade the prototypes, just encapsulate them.
@@MetalJesusRocksIn this case, it's a good distinction to make. I dislike wata, but this is a case of preservation of the actual physical item, and not the condition of it.
Nah, maybe a problem of vintage Gaming. Retro is doing just fine
@@MetalJesusRocksencapsulated them badly if the EPROMs have become exposed
@theoriginalbuttonbasher2601 - a few of those stickers fell during transit and Josh said he's going to work with Wata to fix them and cover the eproms.
I feel like these could pay my mortgage off a few times.
I'm really curious to know how much Panic Restaurant prototype is worth. I saw the retail version at PRGE loose for $800-$1000 depending on condition.
wasn’t wata accused of scamming people
These were not graded. Just encapsulated by Wata.
they were. and they are all scammers, damage games, roll ratings etc.
@@MetalJesusRocks they are still scammers and should not touch any game for any reason
@@MetalJesusRocks Not the point. They’ve been scamming for years, supporting them in any way, and promoting them on your video is unethical.
No to WATA.
Hearing 100 prototypes were found: YAY!
Seeing them in WATA slabs: oh
Hey bud, You might want to put a sticker over those rom windows or in about 7 years the data will be corrupted.
Some of those fell during transit... Josh said he will have them fixed 👍
@@MetalJesusRocks I imagine that will be a challenge with those WATA cases, they're not meant to be opened. Hopefully he can do it!
If only they’d find the Earthbound 64 prototype
I know, right?
My dream prototype is a 1999 or 1998 build of Perfect Dark! hopefully one day!
Gamers complain modern games are released unfinished. Meanwhile, retro gamers seek out unfinished games! 😂
I kid.
Imagine paying WATA to encapsulate these with some ROM windows exposed, and poor condition CR2032 batteries that can leak, what a waste. The store owner seems great, but honestly the community needs to consider not supporting WATA, and maybe not purchase these in this condition. Hopefully he can get them preserved properly by another means before selling.
Josh noticed some of the eeprom covers fell during transit and will work with Wata to get those fixed.
I think it would be better to have him deal with group other than WATA.
@EsThirt33n - there is no other group. That's what he says in the video.
@@MetalJesusRocks still not a good excuse to use anything with WATA's name on it. I'd produce my own or find some other group to help produce them.
My thoughts exactly. Rom windows exposed and the batteries. Huge ooof. I'm a fellow store owner. I feel like prototypes should never be graded.
So he worked with WATA heritage auctions? The guys with the scam auctions!? 🤣
Why are they all slabbed? Those plastic coffins are the bane of this hobby, man.
These were all dumped and the unique roms will be released publicly. I assume Josh encapsulated them to protect them since they are so fragile.
Slabs are kind of lame but they do protect
It's not like someone is actually really going to use those 'prototypes' anyway
@@MetalJesusRocks For protecting them I guess, good idea. Although probably not the best or nicest company to use.
@@MetalJesusRocks Super good to know they'll be dumped. In this instance I'm looking past the wata boxes.
I thought WATA was a scam, though?
They are
These were not graded. Just encapsulated by Wata.
WATA is a scam ...... 1000 percent proven facts.
@@MetalJesusRocksgod forbid you have an opinion
@@MetalJesusRocksbut they say “WATA certified” 🤷♂️🚨
I love retro games and all the updates and quirks that go with them, the problem is I dont have time to watch and following dozens of channels
that's why I follow and watch only MJR, he covers it all and I'm here for it. Vacation videos being my favourite, thanks for always taking us along brother.
The very own Metal Jesus Rocks member Kelsey Lewin is also apart of the same group that Josh got to authenticate his games. Really cool. They need to be preserved in a museum somewhere. This is an amazing collection. And, even though I have never bought a Nintendo game in my 53 years of being on this planet, I can still tell when something is rare and exclusive. Nice collection.
*watches video sees wata turns it off*
American Lamborghini Challenge is not only a racing game but also a Super Scope game. It’s been one of the hardest to find for me and finally picked up a copy this year at PRGE!
OMG, these need to be played! It's like Seinfeld episode when he dates the woman with all the classic toys.
Get some turkey and wine and bring your GBAs!!!
Nobody is sticking a prototype in a console. The roms are pulled and dumped to be played.
He drugs her 😂
You need to release them all!
Frank (Video Game History Foundation) already dumped them all. Most roms are the same as what is already out there...but the few unique Josh said will be released publicly too.
@@MetalJesusRocks good to hear.
@MetalJesusRocks where did he release them at? I couldn't find out where.
Wata games is disgusting.
Yea but as the guy stated, the only grading company dealing in prototypes.
@@FARDEENKHANQWE123 Why do they need to be graded (which WATA didnt even do) or tombstoned in the first place? Anyone could have put them into resealable shells. WATA didn't do much else other than throw their logo on it too.
it's a scam, and people are stupid to pay for just plastic, when you can do it yourself
@@jglg7238 there are way way way more things made of plastic which we the people can do for ourselfs but dont.
The irony is RUclipsrs are only enabling this behavior
Keep an eye on the ones with batteries and get ready to smash the box so you can remove it.
Thanks guys, I'm glad you're not hoarders and are in favor of preservation. Hopefully one day we'll see prototypes like Conker 64 come to light.
Great, WATA. That "The McKay Collection" label on each of those cases were part of the controversies surrounding WATA's scummy business practices. If I remember the arguments correctly, slapping "The McKay Collection" on these items was a way to boost the perceived value by giving these cartridges a "pedigree", a "pedigree" that in reality is completely irrelevant as it was just a random person's private collection.
I agree. And not only that. Being a former employee of Nintendo doesn't necessarily mean the guy collected games. They may have been part of his work and just stored away. So this is definitely a way to increase the perceived value. Especially if someone's going to attempt to catch them all
@@andreysegura2510doesn't mean he collected?
Dude that panic restaurant prototype is worth more than 75% of people's collections
@@richterbelmont5506 So? My point is that this guy probably knew what he had, but got it in the normal course of his job, being a former Nintendo employee. It's more likely that he got to keep a lot of those due to his job than going around looking and buying.
Still wishing for that Wing Commander 2 prototype that was finished to be found.
I work for UPS and shipping for a medical supply company at one time...I am absolutely MIND BLOWN by that packaging. No one does anything like that anymore. So many damaged products just to cut corners.
The first Game Boy game MJR pulled out at 11:42 is NOT Taz-Mania. Wata screwed that up. Taz-Mania on Game Boy is a Sunsoft published game. Tasmania Story is an FCI game. Wata needs to fix that
Good catch
Damn, that's embarrassing for WATA.
Good info.
Been hoping that a prototype of Monster Truck Wars for SNES/Genesis would turn up someday. It was very close to release and was on demo at summer CES 1994 but it was cancelled before release. Hope that one is in with this group!
I bet the game is out there...sitting in a Nintendo employee desk drawer...
What a great way to ruin all these games by slapping watas name on there. Wata deserves nothing to do with anything in gaming
A lot of historical value and nice thing that game roms were saved for future generation!
New prototypes are always awesome 🤩
metal jesus always gets the scoops that matter. good job man.
It pays to get out and meet people. So many of my videos happen because I meet people at E3, PAX, retro gaming expos, etc...
Any plans to do podcasts? Chilling and talking about retro stuff. You and guests like the MJR crew or other collectors.
At first I was annoyed at the grading BS, that shit needs to end, but I am glad all the roms for these have been released and/or will be.
The moment WATA was mentioned I was like damn, for the love of god, don't involve these guys. You do not need them for anything.
I can’t tell if Josh is tiny or you’re just really tall. 🤔
Maybe a little of both. 😜
Huge thanks to Frank for archiving these games!
As we get older, there is less and less ways for people to experience the art from these artists.
No matter what process it is, WATA is disgusting. I really hope the ROMs of those prototypes are posted elsewhere besides the WATA data base because these should be available to the public. Fuck WATA, nuff said...
An awful lot of complaints from people that don't pay for games in the first place...
I'm glad that guy got them. If Chase got his hands on those they would be sold to the highest bidder
They will be, he said he's gonna keep some, sell some
Obviously josh is a seller as well he will get rid of them
Very cool finds, but what concerns me is I noticed a lot of them still had the CR2032 batteries still attached. Won't those eventually corrode and damage the green boards? Unless they make dummy batteries, but since the batteries are soldered in I dunno (I've dealt with those myself).
Jesus Christ, why did you let WATA get their sleazy little hands on this history?
You know they don’t belong to MetalJesus right? He didn’t make any of those decisions here. Watch the video before commenting smh
@@HypocritesExposd I know, jackass. Putting any WATA content in your video, in any regard, is promoting them. It's that simple.
@@HypocritesExposd I know! He did make the decision to showcase someone that worked with WATA in some capacity, though. IMO, that's lame enough.
They return the game to the owner and don't grade them. They collabed with a video game historian to verify the authenticity. Who tf cares
This is a cool video. He should release the roms of the game for anyone who would like to enjoy them and don't care if they have the actual physical prototype. It would be neat to see how some of the prototypes are vs the retail versions of said games.
Josh (owner) is working with Frank (Video Game History Foundation) to publicly release the few roms that are unique.
I LOVE YOU METAL JESUS! BEST OF HEALTH TO YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL WIFE! ❤
What’s up Jason!
A few years ago I regret not purchasing a few bronze Mario statues that giving out to a Nintendo employee that lived in my area.
I have to say I love that it's called the "Mckay Collection", intentionally or not it's such a nice tribute and to remember where it came from. I always feel so sad when huge collections like this, that someone cherished for years, are suddenly out into the chaos of the world. It's good that at least some of the items are in the hands of the next generation of people who will enjoy and appreciate them, and his name will stay relevant to collectors. It's nice to remember the people who came before.
Meh, not really. It's wata's way of adding value to a collection. They have several '### collection', as if the name of some collector is important. In this case, we can't even say it was a collector in the normal sense. Being a former employee of Nintendo the guy may have not actually collected these but just had them around for some work reason, so calling it someone's collection is an artificial way to increase the value/price. Imagine trying to get the entire set after it's separated.
@@andreysegura2510 I did mention the intentionality was questionable, I think it's nice he's remembered.
For the amount of consistent and good educational, entertaining and fun content and information you've been releasing over the years, thank you. It's criminal that you don't have 2 or 3 million subs.
I got a prototype of the NES and some employee clothing and other apparel from Nintendo that was not released to the public I got back quite a long time ago from a family member whose dad worked for Nintendo.
holy hell thats insane and awesome
For early Christmas, Santa wears black Double Dragon shirt.
Just when u thought MetalJesus couldn’t surprise us again he manages to completely one up us every time
If any of the Video Game Museums over there that have the budged to purchase them, that would be nice as to me that would be a place they belong as a collection. Possibly along with the dumps on a multi-cart to play on a kiosk for the visitors.
Every single one is WATA certified? lol😂
They used Frank Cifaldi & Video Game History Foundation to authenticate and dumped the roms.
@@MetalJesusRocks oooh, well thats kinda nice actually
@@FilmTrekkooooh 😮 if you actually bothered watching the video y'all would know all this and not embarrass yourself with shallow-minded knee-jerk comments
I'm certainly no fan of WATA, but come on people. Just because you don't like them shouldn't ruin your enjoyment of watching the unboxing of a find like this. I wonder how many other truly "hidden gems" are still out there somewhere in the world waiting to be found.
About a year ago, Wata graded a reproduction as authentic. It’s be hilarious if they did the same thing here. 😂
Yeah wata has graded tons of fakes and probably some fake prototypes
Metal jesus is slowly transitioning to viking santa as he ages
This is quite possibly the most epic unboxing video of all time.
I know, right? 😍
Thank you to Mr Steven McKay for having the foresight to preserve these.
Wata logo on top of every slab is very cool adds a ton of protection
its Hilarious that Battletoads label says Return ASAP hahaha
Why are they graded? The only reason would be to act like they're worth more than they should be.
Welcome to the scammy world of wata.
He said they are not graded. They simply put them in the cases and customized them for each title.
they're clearly not graded
@@noko4247 WATA isn't a "we put stuff in boxes and hype up auctions and try to make $500 games $200,000" type company?
Hey, as long as they don't hit an auction in the next 5 years, cool.
Tell me you didn’t watch the video without telling me you didn’t watch the video
everyone bitching at WATA but apparently failed to hear at 2:42 mark that they were the only company doing this.
this is not to excuse any unethical behavior or practices of WATA but I'm seeing a lot "f- WATA you shouldn't have done business with them" and no one offering any alternatives.
which is about par for the course with crusty RUclips commentators.
There's no need to go through a company in the first place. How do you think prototype boards (or hell, games in general) were stored by collectors before WATA Games came along in 2018? You don't need to pay a company hundreds of dollars per board to seal them in an acrylic case with their ugly logo slapped on top. WATA aren't even doing it correctly (as another user noticed, they've somehow confused FCI's Tasmania Story on Game Boy with Sunsoft's Taz-Mania at 11:42), and their cases need to be physically broken apart to open them when/if the batteries - that they didn't bother removing - start to corrode.
"Works with me" is the way to say it, sir. Even if he does work for you.
5:39 sounds like he wanted to open those
That's a massive gold mine. That is an epic find. Jeeez what a lucky dude. That is so damn awesome.
Well, coming across something like that is like being hit by a thunderbolt, or even rarer. That said, I'm not sure how much fun it actually is to own these. I suppose die-hard fans of particular games would also like to have the prototypes to show off. Otherwise, I'd say it's more museum material.
Who knows, these may end up at the Strong Museum or some other in the future...
Wata is a scam
DUMP THEM NOW!
The Video Game History Foundation authenticated them & then dumped
@@MetalJesusRocksYeah, I caught that later, I was just tryin to get that first comment in. 😆
Literally first 3 minutes of the video...
I'm guessing in this case Wata didn't deal with the prototypes? Cause they're very questionable as a scam.
Frank Cifaldi & Video Game History Foundation authenticated and dumped the roms.
@@MetalJesusRocks Ah that's good news, have a nice weekend dude 🤘
that's cool finding legit prototypes is awesome even if the games are completed yet but this is cool this video is like a mine of gaming treasures
That's awesome, thanks for sharing!
07:40 Keep that laugh in MetalJesus
How would one person from Nintendo have all these prototypes? Were they originally sent from the devs for feedback and bug testing then for some reason never returned?
Very cool stuff. Thanks guys.
I dont think they expected the backlash before making the video. I didnt know Wata was held with such distain
It would be great if MetalJesus said something in a video about how everyone in the comments is laser focused on the involvement of Wata, what Wata have done, and why we want them out of our scene. Personally I have to comment if I see their name.
Wow! Great episode thanks...
.thanasi out of Chicago
I usually like the videos but I couldn't help but cringe when I saw the WATA seals, even if they weren't rated, that company don't deserve any publicity they don't care about games or gamers or collectors
That's cool stuff.
Prototypes are awesome.
Rather the real ready one.
Can you imagine someone going through your git commits one day and reviewing them. ❤
I mean it’s holy grail stuff right here ❤
Very cool Jason, you don’t see Nintendo prototypes everyday!
I don't like it when the intro song is cut short 😢 I look forward to it all week 😂
All we really care about is for you to please always dump prototype games so we can play them. Especially so they don't get lost forever. Value wise; Wata makes the value wayyy lower from what i quickly learned by everyone's comments on here. I don't know anything about things like that but it sounds bad and that it is best to avoid them and games they touch due to being untrustworthy. All i care about is playing the games. Prototypes of Nes Trog, Snes Kirby's Dreamland 3 and Snes Kirby's Super Star Stacker would have been cool to see in there.

In before the Nintendo lawyers get here
They were sold at public auction almost 2 years ago. I don’t think Nintendo cares.
@@MetalJesusRocks just joking 😁

@MetalJesusRocks Hey MJR. What a cool find. Glad there in good hands and preserved for the future.
On a side note, I know you love racing games, as I do, do you have a racing rig. Pedals, wheels etc? . I've just got one and wow, it transforms the genre. So good. Would love to see you do a video on racing rigs. God speed!
I've messed around with smaller lap wheels and they are fun, but I would eventually like to get the whole thing setup and permanent it the game room. 👍
@@MetalJesusRocks yeah you definitely need to. Only problem is it's so addictive, I'm playing no other type of games 🤣 Please do a video if you decide to invest!! Apparently really good with VR as well, but it just makes me nauseous 😂

I didn't run into the game with my boxes...but not everything got on camera and Josh has the master list. You could reach out to him if curious.
Wata lot of prototypes. Cool stuff. I can dig it
Anyone who promotes WATA is an enemy of the community. That's like promoting DKOldies
Frank Cifaldi & Video Game History Foundation authenticated and dumped the roms. These weren't graded by Wata just encapsulated
Why weren’t the eeprom windows covered :(. These will eventually die out encapsulated but they will lose data sooner if they don’t cover the eeprom windows :’(.
Some of the paper eprom covers were fragile and fell during transit. Josh said he’s going to work with wata to fix that.
So they are prototypes of games that came out later on?
