    Much respect to Brian. It's hard work being the opponent while your sensei turns you into a human pretzel. And some of the locks can come on very fast even when you are being careful

      Brian has his full colours in ukemi - and he has learned so much in the time he has been our deshi. I love locks, but you are right - they can come on really quickly and people freak out and forget to tap 😅

    See some similarities to Kung Fu, more precisely to Wing Tsun. As it is darting fingers to the eyes, open-hand techniques etc. remind me to the "Biu Tze"- form. Generally speaking martial arts may have more common points than differences. Great video! OSS! Greetings from Germany. 🥋😊

      I would love to study Wing Tsun - there is very little Kung Fu in South Africa compared to karate. You can't throw a rock here without hitting a karate school! There are 3 within a 5km radius of our dojo.
      So lovely to see so many of your comments - we appreciate each one :)

    Your explanation of the cups for gracefulness and flexibility inspired me to send a time-stamped link to a Drag Queen so he can walk better in those heels. Thankyou for teaching men like that, more girlishly flowing walking skills, for presentation on the stage.

      @@GojuRyuKarateCentre, the visual quality and editing keeps improving. Just a random idea, but I was wondering if you guys wanted to do a “commentary” type of video about the 1,000,000 mark and showing some comparison (before and after) clips/bloopers and how your methods have changed from the beginning to now. I think it would be fun and educational at the same time while giving a glimpse on the process and evolution of our favourite underdog blue collar karate channel. 😁🥋

    The cup balancing excercise originally was from Baguazhang. The story goes that there was a practitioner of the art who used to wait on tables, and came up with this training technique. This is taught within some Baguazhang schools, or separately by outsiders as a qigong excercise. The idea is that when you are flexible, you will have good blood and qi circulation; hence, you will become healthier from flexibility excercises.
    In fact, there was a period of time where a lot of Kungfu experts within China, that has noted similarities between Baguazhang and Aikido. Hence, the rumour that Morihei Ueshiba might have encountered something when he was in Machuria during WW2.

    Seeing how converting a punch into a glancing blow to establish converting a standard wrist block into a wrist strike opportunity was interesting.

      Amazing!
      Good old chishi and makiwara to make our hands and fingers strong. Ché (my husband in the video) is a chimney sweep as well and uses tools all the time, which also makes his hands very strong.
      Best,
      Zoë (the editor)

    Good Brian-uke comes with a handsome handle, methinks. But now you should show us the inner side of ko-uke. Because not all ko-uke(s) are ko-uke(s) in tensho but rather hooks or there is, as always, wrong math in rokkishu. Or what do I know.

    • @GojuRyuKarateCentre
      @GojuRyuKarateCentre  2 года назад +1

      This is definitely fodder for another video - I keep telling Ché we need to do another Tensho video, but there's always something else that gets filmed.
      Always a delight to hear from you, 4th generation Jundokan man 🙇🏻‍♀️
