Origin:
Anterior Body of the Pubis
Insertion:
Middle 1/3 of the Medial Lip of the Linea Aspera of the Femur
Functions:
1-Flexion of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint
2-Adduction of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint
3-Anterior Tilt of the Pelvis @ the Hip Joint
4-Medial Rotation of the Thigh @ the Hip Joint
Nerve:
The Obturator Nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Activation: (Supine) Resist Adduction of the Thigh (Knee Bent) (Figure 4)
Lengthening: (Supine) Abduction and Extension of the Hip (Off the Table)
The pain I had with my physio freeing these was insane. The receptionist after was in stiches as I wobbled out of the torcher chamber. So worth it though.
The adductor group is often a very painful sensitive area for massage and release. Many people suffer minor injuries such as a strain (groin pull) leading to small tears and scar tissue. Adductors need to be stretched out and massaged for better hip mobility.
