Hey Chris thanks so much! It's so much easier when you have a puppy to do the right thing from the start! When you start babying the puppy then they grow into bad behaviors. Once they learn structure at an early age, they're so much better off !

So educational, helpful, loving, and funny 🤣 I have a pretty anxious pup who is mostly only anxious while on leash, how do you suggest going about this sort of off leash training (that I really want to try) while living in a community with heavily enforced leash rules?
First of all thank you for going out of your way to find me here! And secondly, anxiety is just a feeling that can go away so that’s the good news. You have to associate objects to good things. Perhaps when there is a leash around, he gets his food, or feed while you casually put the leash on and off, also let him walk around with the leash attached to him but without you holding it - build value in the leash and it will make it so anytime you grab it, he will get excited!

Thank you so much for sharing! It is such common sense insight, my 3 month old GSD started playing up after I introduced street leash walking, he has a great heel in the garden. He's all about praise for doing and will pass up the best of treats if frustrated and no wonder it's a new world for him that I'm holding him back from sniffing and chewing. I'm going to use a longer leash and reward good behaviours more often. Try to get myself to work with the idea of developing personality and not just behaviour. Hopefully, I won't kill that curious and naturally adventurous behaviour and instead, we'll gain a deeper respect for each other giving him an excellent recall. Please don't stop with education.
I was doing the lead training as you shown in tiktok, then my puppy started to just sit and look at me without moving. I tried to give a treat when she did this and she still didn’t move afterwards. She was expecting a treat to keep going and then eventually stopped all together.
Was this for preventing sniffing? I haven’t done anything with walking on a lead yet I don’t think, just for sniffing Also, before you start training, you have to do engagement exercises to first familiarize the dog with your markers. Did you do that first? Lastly, how are you marking the good behaviors? Verbally or with a clicker?
Eric Ita it was working too until she randomly just sat down and stared at me and wouldn’t move until I gave a treat. I was doing as you did in the video and giving a treat when she got frustrated and just sat.
I’ve figured out what you might be doing wrong. Your giving her the treat and saying “Yes” at the same time. If I’m correct, 🛑 Say Yesss, THENNNN BRING THE TREAT DOWN AND WALK BACKWARDS. That teaches him to come to you for the reward. Otherwise you’ve been teaching him to stay still by bringing the treat to him 🤯

Love the video a lot of great information but my question is at what point can you stop using the treats? I’ve always heard that after the first few times of rewarding them with treats you should quit using the treats. Otherwise they’ll come to expect it at all times and you’ll forever have to walk around with treats in your pocket and then when you don’t have treats if you keep giving them to the dog they will expect it and if you don’t have treats, I won’t listen so?
I have a 4 month old Weimaraner who is constantly eating things he shouldn’t. He had to have an obstruction surgery from eating rocks. Then less than two weeks later had to have ANOTHER ONE! For eating a popsicle stick. The second time of coarse was far worse the popsicle stick punctured his small intestine and he had peritonitis and a bad infection. He is home now and doing well for the circumstances. Can you make a video on how to get your dog to not eat things they shouldn’t/ leave it/ drop it. And possibly advice because he is constantly scavenging inside and out to find things to get ahold of 😩
have you worked with dogs who have excitement aggression? our dog gets frustrated really easily and still uses her mouth and her growls to fight us. it’s always been more aggressive than simply mouthing. she’s super stubborn & strong-headed, and now she’s about 70lbs at under 8 months so she’s strong.

My husky is a year and a half, when I let him off leash in the park or on the street he runs really fast away from me and into peoples yards, I can only get him back when I drive after him. In our fenced yard he comes 30% of the time when called. Any tips on off leash recall for very independent dogs?
How do I get my puppy to walk on a leash at all? She just sits there and refuses to walk with it on. She does good without it and doesn’t take off but I don’t trust her enough for off leash bc she doesn’t know her name well enough for recall.
She must be associating the leash to negative experiences such as pulling. Try leaving the leash on while hand feeding, leaving the leash on while just walking around the house, when playing at the park - positive associations
This is wonderful! How much time each day do you spend actively training them with treats (is it the same for each dog, regardless of previous training)? Would you recommend a few minutes every hour or more often than that, or really just all throughout the day?
Thanks! Honestly, probably half of my day (5-6hrs) is spent specifically training it giving attention to the dogs. It’s a lot - realistically you just need maybe 10-15 mins at least once or twice a day
How many learnings can a puppy/dog learn in a day not during training time? So as to not them being confused and that they get a treat every time they only do a good behavior?

i have a one year old husky he is very hyper and constantly attempting to run away by going under the gate, if i call him back and give him a treat wouldn’t that be rewarding him attempting to run away?

My two year old husky was the same way. She’s very destructive if left alone during the day! She ate my whole couch. After getting her fixed and her getting older and having another dog friend the destruction has completely diminished she doesn’t even shred her beds anymore!
Love your training approach! Do you have any tips on how to teach your dog to take things with their mouth? I can't teach my dog fetch bc she won't take the toy in her mouth (tried several different toys, textures, sizes already)
If you’re able to control the situation, meaning have a car drive back and forth a few times over, then every time the car passed, I’d immediately say something like “DOWN” or “CENTER” or basically what you’d want her to do instead, then while on a leash, take them to that action and immediately reward him. You can redirect what it means when he sees a car easily by repeating the new action over and over until he makes the association
Wait but you're saying that you should always reward a dog after they do the thing you're training them to do, correctly? How about when they become a year old or whatever? Don't you just have to stop?
Reward comes in many forms. It might divert from treats to play, or to belly rubs, affection, simply going outside... anything is a reward if it’s desirable to the dog, which makes it a great tool for you

@@ericandcaprithepup Well at the time my pup is only about 9-10 weeks old so other than potty training, being too excited when going outside (she's a sucker for that and walks), leashing because she just pulls too much and tries to walk ahead, and listening to her name. I know/understand this is a lot but I honestly just can't figure this out and if you are able to put this in your next video, I'd really appreciate it ❤️. I totally understand if you won't be able to though.
My wife and I just got our new 8 week old puppy and this philosophy of dog training has been a lifesaver.

Great question - I like focusing on 1 or 2 things a week and doing those things for 5 minutes at least once or twice a day - honestly there’s no rush
