      Yes, only an enameled insulated copper wire will work with this.

    hello there
    when i connect the copper wire with the battery it becomes super hot that I can't touch it directly. It doesn't seem to be a problem in your video. Is there something wrong with mine?

    • @goodtech1
      @goodtech1  7 лет назад +1

      The coil does get slightly hot when the motor operates. However, if it is getting extremely hot, the only way to eliminate the heating problem is either you need to increase the no. of coils or you need to use a slightly thicker copper wire.

    What can this be used for
    Edit:or is it just for show

    • @goodtech1

      Yes, its mostly for a show. It is just to demonstrate a kid about how does motor work, Lorentz force and direction of current.

    • @goodtech1

      It is just a simple enameled copper wire (26 AWG). I have also written a detailed written tutorial, if you can, do have a look at it as well - www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-an-Electric-Motor-1/

    what would happen if we supply 12volts Ac , in place of DC , the coil rotates?

    • @goodtech1
      @goodtech1  7 лет назад +1

      No, the coil will not rotate and it will just get hot. Since, the direction of magnetic field for magnets is fixed but the direction of current in the coil will oscillate at AC frequencies, so the direction of magnetic field produced due to current in the wire will also oscillate, hence it will not be able to produce any uniform rotation.

    Did not work for me , the copper coil stuck to the magnet in the middle and wouldn’t spin at all :/

    • @goodtech1
      @goodtech1  5 лет назад

      The copper is non magnetic (although, copper does interact with magnets in many funny ways), if the wire is copper then it should not stick to the magnet.

    Can you please explain the concepts of how your motor works.

    • @goodtech1
      @goodtech1  6 лет назад +1

      Hello Brooklyn,
      When the loop sits on the metal conductor (i.e paper clips), the current flows through it, thus producing a magnetic field around the coil. When the loop rolls over, there will be no contact due to half enamel coating and thus, no current flow and no magnetic field. When another magnet is placed to interact with the coil, the coil spins continuously because the magnetic field around it tries to align with the magnetic field of the permanent magnet.
      If you need more info and material links, you can also refer to my instructables page - www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-an-Electric-Motor-1/

    how can we use it instead of real motor

    • @goodtech1
      @goodtech1  6 лет назад

      This is just an experiment to demonstrate how a motor works, You can glue a small propeller at the end of the wire and it will work as a small table fan but using it as a real motor is not possible.

    • @goodtech1
      @goodtech1  7 лет назад

      If the coil vibrates that means everything is fine, now just try to adjust the distance between coil and magnets and also the orientation of coil. It should be perpendicular to magnetic field.
