Followed your instructions 2 years ago and had an immediate response. Today car was running rough again lots of pre-ignition pinging. Cleaned the maf sensor and it is running great again.
take the 2 torx bolts on top of the housing loose and pull out the mass air flow sensor from the housing. In that hole is a screen to even air flow. The best way to clean the sensor wires is to take the sensor out of the housing and spray it with sensor cleaner until it is grey/white
Thank you J - I just bought a 97 T-bird and was able to do these things exactly as you demonstrated. I was wondering, if your Dad still has his T-bird, perhaps you could post a video when you do the next brake job and fuel filter change etc. Keep up the good work.
p.s. I used brake cleaner to clean mine. My engine was pinging slightly when under load, I cleaned 'er up about 2 years ago using brake cleaner and the pinging went away, so obviously the sensor was dirty. Cleaning the MAF pretty much should be a regular maintenance type item. Every year or two is good I would say.... unless you run a K&N filter, then you need to do it like twice a year cause the K&N can cause some oil residue to go from the filter to the sensor.
I feel ya bro times is for rough for money I got the mas air sensor can spray cleaner also but its like a temp fix. That's why I suggested the new one. I got a 04 cobra svt motor swap in the works that I'm savin up to drop in my tbird. I've seen this motor swap in a lot of older mustang fastbacks an what not but not to many tbirds ya know. I wasn't hatin on ya video also mainly suggesting :) anyway take care aight
Hey, my thermostat housing keep leaking, and the thermostat always moves to a side when I go to torque it down. Any tips or tricks? Also, is there a video of what the idle was sounding like before you worked on it?
Hi, on the negative battery cable, there is a double ground wire coming out from in front of the battery. One part connects to the negative battery terminal, the other grounds to the body. Any idea what the part number is for that connector and wire? Thanks in advance. FYI: You'll see it between :35 and :40 seconds.
You can just buy some 12 gauge (I think its 12) and a connector and crimp it on. Then bolt it to the body and use the clamp on the negative wire to attach it with the other negative wires. Hope that helps
my dad didn't have any money. with poor economic times I though it would productive to show how to save money. if it were mine. I would have replaced everything. Thanks for the comment
oh i know you werent hatin. i agree with you and am open to any suggestions or things i missed. Subscribe to my channel. Im gonna start puttin up new videos soon. Its cold in the D. But its warming up now. Thanks for watching and i look forward to more comments in the future. And good luck with the t bird i love them
Awesome video man,too bad your dad sold the Bird,i was checking the video out and that car sure had weird heater core hoses, was it bypassed? normally heater hoses for these cars are S shaped and stand up, the first hose goes to the return line and the second hose goes to the intake but these ones look like they are crossed, interesting.
Dude wit it bein that dirty bro I'd just by a new one. I got a 95 t bird an every part I've replaced is brand new. I figure do it right the first time an won't have to worry bout it ya kno
You could just use brake cleaner to clean the MAF sensor if you have some already, no need to buy MAF cleaner spray. The important thing here is to not leave any residue behind.
You said you were in the D..i live in fenton by flint. I have a 94 sc and need a good ford mechanic for my tbird... Im looking for a cheaper place to bring my car rather than the shop. Ill subscribe if you consider doing sidework for me..if not no biggie. Let me know if you need extra cash for some supercoupe maintenance. Thanks
I didnt unbolt it. i needed to take off the air intake assembly to get to the pcv valve anyways. i had the tools to get it out but it was already right there. you dont NEED to take it out

J - please post more maintenance videos as you complete them on your dad's T-Bird.
Had my 97 for a few months now and enjoy it.
Excellent description of how to clean the MAF sensor. Very helpful.

Thanks for these two part videos mate, it helped me greatly and it fixed my rough start issues and removed the check engine light. Thanks heaps!

Thanks! Get to fix my MAF and PCV valve tomorrow.

Great video Sir. I appreciate this. By any chance did it fix the rough idle??

There is no reason you can't remove the MAF sensor from the air box. There is no need to unbolt the air box in order to spray up into the MAF sensor.
most people don't have the tool to remove the sensor from the box
I didnt unbolt it. i needed to take off the air intake assembly to get to the pcv valve anyways. i had the tools to get it out but it was already right there. you dont NEED to take it out
poor job....
