And the road it has taken hasn’t always been smooth. Our cast takes us on a journey from hip-hop’s infancy all the way to its current state as a global superpower.
As part of Complex's Get Money initiative, the eight-part series "Rules to This Sh*t" covers the trials and tribulations of embarking on a rap career, with words of wisdom from Common, N.O.R.E., Too $hort, the late Nipsey Hussle, and more.

It's the entire earth
Say thanks to Black Americans for creating Hiphop and every other genre of music for everyone to create subs off of.
And Puerto Ricans were a part of the development of hip hop
@@newlynvazquez3983 They werent apart of creating any elements of it but they were heavy into BBoying and the progression of it years after Black Americans created it.
@@maxwellbrisk5622 I'm not saying we were the 1st ones or the originators, but we were definitely there in the Bronx and a part of the development of hip hop. To claim that blacks started it all is biased.
@@newlynvazquez3983 How can you say "Im not saying we were the 1st or the originators" but then say "To claim blacks started it all is biased"..How does that work? You do know originator is synonymous with creators right? Youre saying you're not the originators of Hiphop but blacks didnt start it then who did? You have to make sense, cant just say anything because you're addicted to this flavor.
@@maxwellbrisk5622 Lol great job of point out his "double speech". These ppl all kind of mental gymnastics to artificially attach themselves to Black American culture, it's part envy and part Anti Black bigotry, Salute you.

I see you Round Two 😉 17:33

Say thanks to dancehall/reggae🇯🇲
🤣 man plz
Dancehall/Reggae derives from Jamaicans copying Black Americans..Its documented of them saying this themselves.
"9-9"
Why are these youngings speaking about hip hop began when they and there parents weren’t even born yet.
You got a problem with that?
What about The Beasties, Everlast, 3rd bass, Long Before Em
That's was decades later.
@@markeyosef1579 And decades since?
@@Jaycee37 this discussion was about pioneers. You just mentioned some white hip hop artists.
@@markeyosef1579 agreed and they would be Pioneers. Hip Hop is not that old.
@@Jaycee37 stop everybody you mentioned was trash except EM.

@@Johnsgames2 have mommy to change your diaper young man maybe if mommy didn't pass Rap music on to you Maybe you'll know what real music is
Gold chains come from hip hop. Lol
Listen stop saying hip hop is the expression of blacks and latinos. Its started with blacks and latinos got involved because they are close neighbors. They, latinos, arent in the forefront, and thats for a reason because they arent the essence of it. If white people didnt make hip hop then white latinos didnt either. If latinos created it, then wheres a latino record label? How come there has been a bevy of black record labels even starting from motown, and you havent seen any latinos record labels in hip hop? Hip hop has launched clothing brands, how come latinos dont have any of the influential clothing brands that hip hop has launched from karl kani to vlone?
Don't have Adam 22 on here! Culture vulture!
