Bubble gum rap sells whereas underground conscious hip-hop doesn’t take off at all. It’s just meant to reach a handful of people. Most people in society are zombies and they don’t care about lyrics. They just want to hear songs to chill out. I couldn’t care less if I die as a conscious emcee with hardly any recognition. I’ve accepted it.
