The VW Tiguan is decent but, I like the new Sportage! It will be a 2023 model here in the USA. I hope that our version gets a spare tire, or at least a small temporary spare. We have too many wide open areas to be caught with out a spare. Very nice presentation Mari. Very professional.

In America I bought a Kia Seltos 1 1/2 years ago and it has a spare tire in the SXT GDI trim, I think kia changes the spare tire as an option in lower trims. So the Sportage should have an option for the spare seeing how its the next size up model, now also take into account maybe that the Hybrid may not have a spare option based on where the batteries are but say whatever higher trim naturally aspirated motor may have the spare tire.

It's true that Kia and Hyundai have evolved a lot during these last 10 years and I like the competition that they make on the european market, at least. But keep in mind that the the coreans have a research center in Germany, so all the new tech they are coming with and better mechanics it's from the germans ahahah. I'm not saying it's a bad thing and I'm happy they have managed to get to a good european level standard

Thanks for the slightly different comparison. Very refreshing. I am bothered by a few things though.
Comparing a diesel to a hybrid is like comparing a steam engine to a modern train. Response, torque, smoothness are not comparable. That's a bit unfair to the Tiguan. You could have compared the Tiguan hybrid here.
As for rear seat space, again you're comparing the longer version of the Sportage to the short version of the Tiguan. The Tiguan Allspace would have been the better comparison here as well.
You complained that the Tiguan keeps you on track but doesn't follow it, but the Sportage does. Then you are also comparing different equipment here. My Tiguan also follows the lane, called adaptive lane departure assistant.
In general, you're comparing a completely new model (Sportage) with a facelift (Tiguan), where the original model has already been on the market for several years. That's not entirely fair either.
That's not meant to be a gripe, just well-intentioned criticism. By the way I currently drive a Tiguan 2.0 TDI with 230 hp and am switching to the Kia Sportage Hybrid with 265 hp system power this summer.

I get the German design language, it's very clean and minimal in its look. I love what KIA is doing in its design language, it's modern and has a hi tech aesthetic. I don't mind those boomerang DRLs, I suspect people will either love it or hate it, they definitely make a statement and let others know you're driving a KIA. Great work Mari, I enjoy your work.

Tiguan sales are 250% more than Sportage worldwide. Don't kid yourself, people that buy a Volkswagen will be looking at a Mazda or Toyota, not a Kia. Kia is a much cheaper brand...just look at the comment section, everyone loves the shortage because of its looks, nothing else.
The Tiguan's engine, ride quality, comfortable seats, tech, and ergonomics are miles ahead. Just test drive both cars and you'll understand there is a big difference between the two.

I think the volkswagen is quite "dull" but still an OK car, the Kia is more "disruptive"... I'm not fan of either tbh :D both aren't ugly but both aren't giving me the chill... I would go for the Kia because of the interior which look much sexier. :) (but yes those fingerprint magnet surfaces may look good but... it's a major no :P )
PS: I had a flat back in 1993 so I guess I'm not stuck on the idea to have a spare (man, that makes me look like an antic lol). If you run a truck or a off road 4 wheeler I agree that a spare is a must but for everyday use, we can ride with a puncture for quite a good time before needing to fix it.

    • @serbanhv9338
      @serbanhv9338 2 года назад +1

I think it also depends on your experience. I have seen my parents and my wife having flat tires during the years and if it wasn't for the spare wheel the situation would have been more annoying. The puncture can be pretty big and can flatten your tire really fast. And you are not always near a car shop.
So from my perspective it's better to have a spare wheel in the boot and keep in mind that Volkswagen offers a temporary tire which is slimmer than a regular one. In this case, you boot capacity isn't affected that much and it takes the same amount of space like the Kia uses it's own space to store the tire kit and other stuff

The pronunciation of the kia seems a bit wrong. When the first sportage was produced for sale in the ulmdealer where taken to korea for the launch and we where told it was called the name was pronounce sport-age not sport ig and yet the American still say it wrong like they cannot say hyundia correctly.

So you choose a diesel engine and conclude that is not the car for viewers?! Why not get the 1.5 or 2.0 TSI for a real competition?
Also why not showing the numbers for the trunk space and provide a distortionate impression: Tiguan has max 610litres, while Sportage has 560 maximum. So how Kia's boot space is higher?!

Less rolling motion with Tiguan which is better for passengers at the back. Design is more modern with KIA but I do not like it. Tiguan car truck is much more versatile due to the fact that the rear seat can be moved forward if necessary. Having said that and owning a Tiguan, I should drive the KIA to make my opinion 😊
